About this game
Deep beneath the surface lies a world of endless caves, rich veins of ore, and forgotten treasures.
In the dwarven kingdom Mearel, deep below a mountain, you are a lone dwarf miner descending into a massive, fully procedural cave system. Every world is unique — carved by cellular automata and filled with winding tunnels, massive caverns, and hidden ore veins.
Key Features:
Procedural Cave Generation – No two worlds are the same. Explore vast underground networks that feel alive.
Deep Mining & Progression – Start with basic tools and upgrade your pickaxe power, mining speed, and light, through a town shopkeeper.
Rich Ore Economy – Mine Coal, Iron, Copper, Silver, Lead, Tungsten, Gold, Orichalcum, Cobalt, Xenonite, and Texinite. Sell your haul or use it for future upgrades.
Grappling Hook Traversal – Swing across huge chasms and reach unreachable areas with a physics-based grappling hook.
Persistent Worlds – Multiple save slots with full world persistence (mined tiles, town location, inventory, and upgrades are saved).
Cozy Town Hub – Return to your central town to sell ores, buy powerful upgrades, and rest between expeditions.
Compass Navigation – Never get lost — your compass always points back to the town.
Relaxing yet Rewarding Gameplay – Beautiful pixel art, smooth mining loop, and satisfying progression with no permadeath stress.
Whether you enjoy peaceful mining sessions or deep exploration and optimization, In The Roots Of The Mountain offers a perfect mix of mining, and relaxing resource management.
Are you ready to forge your legacy in the depths of the Earth?

This was a fix of sound effects, animations, and enemy AI. Enemies no longer get stuck on walls while chasing the player. The jump animation now doesn't randomly trigger along with the landing sound affects and particle effect. The attack animation now has a trail behind the axe. I added a sound effect for the player getting hit and healing.Read full article on Community Announcements (Calj)AnnouncementsOfficial
I have decided to add enemies.
So I'm working on adding enemies to the game and so far I have added two, a flying skull that shoots fire balls at the player and a cave slime bother look pretty good in my opinion. I have also added a battle axe the player starts with so you can fight enemies and not just die with out being able to fight back. I am taking suggestions on what enemies to add so if you have any ideas let me know in the comments and if there good and fit the cave vide I might add them.Read full article on Community Announcements (Calj)AnnouncementsOfficial
