About this game

Set foot on Kareha, a forgotten archipelago adrift in the open ocean, and take charge of monitoring Ngari, a shield volcano that never truly goes quiet. Explore a deserted island carved from rock and jungle, instrument its slopes, track the pulse of the earth, and anticipate the crisis before it erupts. Measured survival, faithful volcanology, open world: chart your own course, the story will wait. Between scientific rigour and a thirst for exploration, your vigilance will make the difference between a great discovery and a desperate sprint from the lava.

FROM LAGOON TO CRATER: AN ISLAND EARNED IN ALTITUDE

Explore Kareha from the shoreline to the summit of Ngari! Climb through biomes that shift with altitude, from the turquoise waters of the lagoon to bare windswept slopes, past vegetation clinging to cooled lava flows. Venture into lava tubes where the air still trembles with heat, cross the banks of mist that swallow the heights, and let the day-night cycle reshape every landscape. This verticality forces you to adapt your gear and your routes at every elevation, turning the smallest ascent into an expedition.

SCIENCE AS A WEAPON: READ WHAT THE EARTH HIDES

Instrument like a volcanologist! Deploy your seismic and thermal sensors on slopes no one has ever mapped, calibrate your alert thresholds, and learn to interpret the faintest tremor in the ground. Collect scientific credits through your surveys to expand your instrument arsenal and push the limits of your monitoring network. Every reading counts, every misread sign has a price: here, understanding the volcano is already half the battle of surviving it.

THE VOLCANO DOESN’T WARN YOU: STAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FLOW

You’re not touring a backdrop : you’re cohabiting with a living mountain! Build a base worth defending, then hold your ground when Ngari erupts and lava reshapes the terrain beneath your installations. Watch for fumaroles, feel the pressure rise, flee in time or lose everything. The mountain sets the tempo; your job is to learn to dance with it before a pyroclastic surge catches up with you.

    The volcanic engine

Hello everyone, In the last devlog, we talked about our vision for Volcano Watch. We are happy to announce that huge progress has been made in the past two months! Here, we present the volcanic engine: a physically relevant volcanic cycle that drives all natural phenomena on the island. The cycle As in nature, the volcano in the game runs a cycle of phases: dormant, inflation, seismic crisis, eruption. It starts quietly: the magma is deep, the mountain sleeps, and nothing on the surface says otherwise. The reservoir under the island starts to fill from beneath… the ground swells imperceptibly, but the pressure accumulates… until the rock fractures. Magma rushes through the breach in the reservoir walls, cracking its way to the surface. The ground shakes violently as an eruptive fissure opens, releasing superheated gases and molten rock. Lava flows from the vent, following the slope and burning everything in its path. Pressure decreases in the magma chamber as it drains, resetting the volcanic engine for the next cycle. Eruption location and timing in the game vary according to physically accurate magma dynamics and volcanic rift zones observed on real-life shield volcanoes such as Kilauea, Piton de la Fournaise, Fogo and many others! On the surface The volcano does not wait for the eruption to show itself. Everything it does underground leaves a mark up here, and the island is covered in them. Behind the green jungle curtain of Kareha, fumaroles vent wherever the ground is cracked and hot. Sulfur fields and their toxic air spread across wide slopes in yellow stains. The rivers host many hot springs, while some lakes, inspired by real-life locations such as Kawah Ijen in Indonesia, are not really suited for a swim… The volcanologist As a junior volcanologist sent on this field trip more or less willingly, you'll be dropped with a backpack and a geologist's hammer on one of the island's beaches. You will have to exploit Kareha's resources to build your instrument netw...

    Welcome to Volcano Watch

Hi everyone, This is the first devlog for Volcano Watch. Whether you've just stumbled onto the page or you've been following from the start, it's good to have you here. The vision You're a field scientist dropped on a remote volcanic island. Your job is to read what the volcano is doing, by hand, by instrument, by intuition, and stay one step ahead of what it's about to do. Volcano Watch is a first-person survival-craft game rooted in real volcanic geology. You explore the terrain on foot, deploy a network of seismic and gas sensors, craft your tools and shelter, analyze samples in your lab, and learn to read the signs that come before an eruption. Where we are now The 3D world is in place and the core systems are running end to end. Sensors, energy networks, crafting, farming, eruptions, lava simulation all work together. The visual identity and polish are still being shaped. You're seeing the game in an early form, and a lot will evolve in the months ahead. What's next More to come in the months ahead as the world, the visuals, and the gameplay come together toward release. If the premise speaks to you, wishlist Volcano Watch. Wishlists are how Steam decides to show the game to other curious players, and every single one counts, especially this early. Thanks for being here. Meneztan Games
