A tactical roguelite deckbuilder inspired by dark Brazilian folklore, featuring ritual card battles, risky sacrifices, evolving builds, and legendary creatures shaped by myth and nightmare.
About this game

You died.
Now, bound by a dark pact to the Mandatário, your only chance at redemption is to hunt and seal creatures that have escaped into the living world.
In Obscurium, a tactical roguelite deckbuilder inspired by the darker corners of Brazilian folklore, every battle is a ritual. Summon creatures, make dangerous sacrifices, manipulate the board, and confront legendary entities in tense encounters shaped by strategy, risk, and lasting consequences.
Build your Grimoire across multiple runs, uncover powerful cards, unlock new possibilities, and reveal fragments of a disturbing truth: perhaps the monsters you hunt are not the true horror.

Bestiary. The Pisadeira
Hello Hunters! This has probably happened to you. You wake up in the dark. You are awake. And you cannot move anything. In Brazil that has a name, and she has been up on your roof the whole time. The legendShe spends the whole night watching you from a distance. What she looks like changes from region to region, so nobody agrees on her shape. What everyone agrees on is that at night you are never alone. You have probably had her visit. You wake up. You are conscious. And nothing moves. It does not last a fixed amount of time. Seconds, or an hour. And they say she eats the fear, so the more frightened of her you are, the more often she comes.Cornélio Pires wrote her down in Conversas ao pé do fogo. She also turns up as Pesadeira along the São Francisco river, and as Pisador in Ceará. Dev noteEveryone in Brazil knows what the Pisadeira is before they know her name. It is sleep paralysis. You surface in the middle of REM sleep, while your brain is holding your body still on purpose so you do not act out your own dream, and the part of you that should wake up with you does not. Weight on the chest, no air, and you lucid enough to watch all of it.The good detail is that the science agrees with the legend on one specific point: sleeping face up really does make it more likely. In 2023 a study out of UFRN, published in USP's Revista de Estudos Culturais, went and looked at the Pisadeira as sleep research, because until then she had only ever been studied by anthropology.Every other creature in this game attacks because it is there. The Capelobo hunts hunters, kills them and drinks the blood. That is simply what he does. The Pisadeira does not work like that. She chooses, and she waits. What is still openHer behaviour on the table changed in the second build, and we do not know yet whether we got it right. It is the thing we most want to hear about from anyone who has faced her. Your turnShe works your nights. Has she visited you? See you in the dark, The Wild Pepper Games teamRead full article on Community Announcements (mwarth)AnnouncementsOfficial
Devlog 06. Friday is the map build
Hello Hunters!Friday's buildWe spent this month rebuilding how the map gets generated, and it was the most argued-about decision of the month by a distance. Three disciplines at once: design writing the rules, engineering refactoring the old system out from under them, and tech art making the visuals update themselves off the generated data instead of being placed by hand. The rules came out in two kinds, and that split is where the arguments were. Some exist for balance. Others exist only so the shape of the map is interesting to walk through. Those two pull against each other constantly. What came out the other end is an internal tool where we build generation profiles and tune them. The honest one-line version of what changes for you: runs stop looking like each other.Claim your spot here.FixedThe softlock that lived in your save is gone, and we confirmed it internally.Four map events in the Norte were freezing runs: the Amulet Craftsman, the Trickster's Room, coming back to the map after the Pisadeira, and the transition out of the first map. They looked like four bugs. They were one.Text running off the edge of the screen.Still openShadows from Beyond makes every card on the board attack at random once it has been played. Closing the game clears it. Starting a new run does not.Dev noteThat last line is the most useful sentence in this post. When something breaks, what we need to know is not what broke. It is where the broken thing is living, and you can tell that from your side without opening a file. Cleared by a new run, it was in the run. Survives a new run but dies when you quit, it is in memory. Survives quitting, it is written into your save.Shadows from Beyond is the middle one. That fact alone told us to stop looking at the card and look at what happens when the scene changes underneath it. We found the trigger the same day.So when you report something, those two answers beat a paragraph of description. And if you can attach the log, it lives here:C:\\User...Read full article on Community Announcements (mwarth)AnnouncementsOfficial
Bestiary. The Carranca
Hello Hunters! There is a Carranca in the corner of the board. It is the thing you have probably already clicked to end your turn. Today we tell you what it is.The legendOn the boats that crossed the São Francisco, there was a face fixed to the prow.Cedar and imburana, the resistant woods, or hand shaped clay. Wide eyes. Open mouth. Teeth showing. Human traits and animal traits put together on purpose so it reads as neither. The people who carve them are called carranqueiros. The wooden ones get painted in strong colour, the clay ones stay rough. The Carranca kept the bad on the outside of the boat. Evil spirits and other supernatural things. Some of them carry Iemanjá and Exu Marabô inside. Iemanjá is the queen of the sea in the Afro Brazilian religions, mother of the waters and protector of the people who live off them. Exu Marabô is one of the Exus of Umbanda, tied to crossroads and to the opening of paths. On a boat, both of them make sense at once. What it does on the tableIt ends your turn. That is it. You click the face and the board passes to the other side.Dev NoteEvery deckbuilder has this button. Ours is a Carranca.Look at where it sits. On the river it did not ride inside the boat with the crew. It was fixed to the front, turned outward, facing whatever was coming. On our table it ended up on your side.It is the only piece of folklore in this game that is not something you play and not something you fight. It is something you touch. The next playtest starts on August 28If you want to be in it, now is the time.https://obscurium.firstlook.gg/dashboard/See you in the dark, The Wild Pepper Games teamRead full article on Community Announcements (mwarth)AnnouncementsOfficial
Devlog 04. What is broken, and last call for this wave
Hello Hunters!A few things about the build in this playtest.First, thank you. You found bugs we had not found. You found others on the way. And you sent us ideas about what to improve, which is the whole reason the playtest exists. A lot has changed because of you. What is brokenThe Amulet Craftsman can soft lock your save. Leave to the main menu during the card sacrifice animation and the run can come back in a state the game cannot load. Restarting does not help, because the save lives outside the game folder.Workaround, already in Discord: delete current_run.json in AppData\\LocalLow\\DefaultCompany\\Obscurium.Dev noteThe cause was not the amulet screen. Some cards existed in the game but were missing from the card repository. When the save went to rebuild your deck it could not find the card, and it stopped there. That is why it turned up on different screens and looked like more than one bug.The fix was putting every card back into the repository, plus a check so that if a card is not there the game moves on instead of stopping. That took out most of the cases. One still reproduces in this week's testing, so we stopped what we were doing. It is what we are fixing right now, and it ships the moment it is done.Last call for this waveThis wave closes Monday, August 17. If you have a key sitting in your library, this is the week to use it.One run is about 30 minutes, then the survey. And the question we most want answered: which amulet did you actually equip, and what did it cost you in the fight. Not which one is strongest. The turn the bill arrived.https://obscurium.firstlook.gg/signup/playtest-2The next build is close, and we will talk about it soon.See you in the dark, The Wild Pepper Games teamRead full article on Community Announcements (mwarth)AnnouncementsOfficial
Bestiary. The Capelobo
He hunts the hunters.CAPELOBO.The legendHe is told in Amazonas, Maranhão and Pará. Folklorists sometimes call him the werewolf of the north, which is close but misses the part that matters. He does not turn into a wolf and stop there. He is a wolf that also becomes a giant anteater. The snout comes forward, the mouth disappears, and what is left is a face built for reaching inside things. He hunts hunters. He kills them and drinks the blood. In the tellings there is exactly one way to kill him back, and it is to hit him in the navel. The name is probably indigenous. Capê, which means broken bone, and lobo. What he does on the tableTwo forms, and no stat block on either one. The anteater goes for your hand. It reaches in, takes what you were holding, and you spend the rest of the fight playing around a hand you cannot count on. The wolf does not care about your hand at all. It hits you, hard, and it keeps hitting. The anteater in the legend is the one with the long reach. The wolf is the one that is simply a predator. That is how we decide these things.Where he is weakPlay aggressive. He punishes hesitation, and the player who is willing to eat some damage to close the fight faster tends to win it. Defending is how the fight gets long, and long is where he lives. Dev noteCreatures in Obscurium have no health number and no attack number. There is nothing to grind down. The design question was never how much health should this boss have. It was what does this thing do to people in the stories, and how does that become something you feel on the table. More on that in two weeks. What is still wrong with himBoth forms read correctly, but they could be more themselves, and we know it. The model is also being rebuilt, so the Capelobo you fought is not the Capelobo you will be fighting. One last thing. The second build put the spirits of old hunters into the run. Read back what the Capelobo does for a living. Which creature do you want next, and what should it do to your deck...Read full article on Community Announcements (mwarth)
