About Thieves

About Thieves is an old-school, first-person dungeon crawler with real-time combat and grid-based movement. Descend through festering sewers, abandoned ruins, and royal dungeons, and loot every corner of them. Gold is experience, and secrets are everywhere. The more you steal, the stronger you get.

Features:

  • Exploration-driven progression: Your main source of XP is treasure. Hunt for secrets, crack open hidden rooms, and fill your pockets. Every coin counts.

  • Real-time grid-based combat: Classic dungeon crawling feel with fast, demanding fights against slimes, giant worms, corrupted Ratkins and worse.

  • Six playable classes with a rogue twist: Forget paladins and wizards. Here, the warrior is a guild strongman, the healer is a shady plague doctor, and the mage is a street illusionist with a knife up her sleeve. Classic fantasy archetypes, reimagined for a crew of thieves.

  • A story bigger than a heist: You went in for the gold. You might just save the entire province. Against your will.

The king hasn't left his castle in months. The people of Ashad are hungry. Someone has to do something, it might as well be someone who gets paid...

    Hello everyone!

Hello everyone! Now that the game’s Steam page is up and I’ve taken care of all the paperwork and related expenses, it’s only fitting to say hello and write my first devlog. To start off, I wanted to give you a better idea of what the game will be like and provide more information than what’s on the main page. In short, it’s a classic first-person dungeon crawler with real-time combat and grid-based movement. The only significant twist is that you don’t gain XP from combat but from finding valuables, which was intended to shift the focus toward exploration. Hence the hundreds of secrets, secret paths, and hidden treasures. This is also supported by the lore in some way, I’ll try to describe everything in detail below. Gameplay At its core it's still a classic dungeon crawler, a significant part of the gameplay is classic dungeon crawling, but I wanted the biggest emphasis to be on exploration. That's why I came up with the idea of rewarding players more than usual for poking into every corner and hunting for secrets. On top of finding bonus loot there, collecting coins, crystals, chalices and other valuables is key to character progression. A bit of a nod to old platformers where collecting enough of various coins gave you an extra life. To keep combat from being completely pointless, some monsters also drop treasures. Races and Classes Currently I'm planning the following character classes: Strongman, Cultist of Ylmus, Illusionist, Rogue, Plague Doctor and maybe something like a monster tamer with their own familiar. Very classic overall, but with a slight thieving twist, where instead of a mage you've got a carnival illusionist who throws fireworks at enemies instead of magic missiles.Races are pretty standard: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Ratkin. ːdeadratːEach class will obviously have a set of skills but for now I only have a linear progression tree. Races will also differ in stats, though don't expect a very elaborate system with a ton of numbers. Story The story might s...
