About this game

What do you do when you’re undead, broke, and stuck with a run down old mansion in the mountains? There’s only one thing you can do: open an inn, terrify the guests, and turn them into profitable ghosts.

In Inn Kreeper, you rise from the grave as the Kreeper, a lich who would rather stay inside playing video games with their rat roommate than deal with the outside world. After selling off your retro game collection to pay the mortgage on your abandoned mountain manor, you hatch the perfect plan: turn the old house into a thriving inn with a deadly secret.

Who knew selling ghosts on the internet could be so profitable?

Check in guests, assign their rooms, arrange dreadful amenities and activities, raise their stress, and prepare their final checkout with deadly room traps. When a guest meets their end, the ghost they become can be grown, collected, sold, or used to expand your supernatural side hustle... all in the name of buying back your beloved game collection.

Key Features

Cozy Horror:
Enjoy a spooky but playful world of cartoon violence, candy victims, syrup blood, sugar bones, chocolate skulls, and dark comedy.

Run a Spooky Cozy Inn:
Build rooms and amenities, provide gross meals with room service, customize the interior to your liking and the perfect ghost filled getaway.

Plan Your Guest's Stay:
Use amenity passes to send guests through awful activities, uncomfortable services, and suspiciously unpleasant experiences to raise their stress before their final night.

Trigger Traps:
Prepare rooms with elaborate traps to turn unlucky visitors into valuable ghosts. Different traps produce different outcomes, resources, and ghostly rewards.

Hunt, Collect and Sell Ghost:
Collect ghosts from around your haunted inn, grow them stronger, discover rare types, and unlock unique high level ghosts with special requirements.

Expand and Customize Your Inn:
With the profits from your ghost, purchase new manor expansions, arrange rooms and amenities, and build a bigger, stranger, more profitable haunted inn.

Upgrade Your Inn and Abilities:
Trade ghosts for Games and unlock new rooms, gain new amenities, improve the Kreeper’s supernatural business one doomed guest at a time.

Future Features:

The Monster Lab - Build monsters to serve as staff to take care of the task you prefer to automate.

Investigators - The haunted inn will draw the attention off professional ghost investigators that will show up at your inn, looking to take a few ghost home with them.

    Devlog #3 - A-MEAN-able Amenities

Greetings Spooky Friends! As we count down the final days of summer, we're checking the weather forecast for the first days of fall weather. I've been hard at work making building ghost, rooms, and features. Today's devlog will go over a few of them. And we've got some big news: Inn Kreeper is participating in Steam Next Fest this October!THE SODA BARThe Soda Bar allows you to serve strawberry and apple sodas to your guests with their free Soda Bar pass. Now, while this may sound like a pleasant treat, the strawberry and apple syrups are harvested from the remains of previous guests after they befell their fates in their trapped rooms.Feeding candy to candy happens often in the Inn. The GardenWho doesn't love a botanical garden or greenhouse? Having an indoor garden gives guests a touch of nature during their stay. However, this garden exclusively grows poisonous plants that aggressively spray anything made of candy that gets near. A guest may find themselves lost in colorful clouds of poison, increasing their stress as a result.More importantly, the Garden can lock in a guest's current Sorrow or Horror, making it especially useful when you're trying to create certain ghosts.Could this be useful for discovering future ghosts?Yes, yes it will be.Speaking of new ghosts... New Ghost These ghosts are some of the top-tier spirits you'll be trying to create while you "raise your dead." Using different amenities will be key to transforming an echo of the recently deceased into one of these unique beings. These ghosts can help create other ghosts or be traded for upgrades or money! The Road to Next FestWith Steam Next Fest approaching, we're working hard to get the demo into its best possible shape for the festival. That means as much playtesting as we can squeeze in between now and release. THANK YOU! That's all for now, everyone! Thank you so much for wishlisting Inn Kreeper! Every wishlist moves us closer to being noticed! See you in the next devlog and welcome to the inn....

    Devlog #2 - What's cooking?

Hello again! This summer has been incredibly warm, as I'm sure many of you have experienced. I've retreated to my basement to escape the heat and put the finishing touches on some new features for Inn Kreeper. Here's what's cooking.Inn Kreeper originally began as a game jam project I made for Halloween. It was a much simpler version of what the game has become today, but one mechanic survived all the way from that first prototype: room service.Screenshot from Game Jam prototype:I've redesigned this system several times over the course of development, including completely redrawing the kitchen and its layout before finally settling on something that captured the creepy-cozy atmosphere I was aiming for.How does room service work? The original system was far more complicated than it needed to be and hid too many mechanics behind the scenes. After some playtesting, it became obvious that it was unnecessarily complex and, more importantly, just wasn't very fun. After several iterations, I think the current version is a much better fit. You can provide room service to any of your guests and serve them whatever meal you decide to make. If they eat the food in their room, their stress level increases, helping create more valuable ghosts once they meet their untimely end.If you prepare the day's special, you'll earn a bonus stress multiplier. Every ingredient has flavor tags that represent different tastes and textures. The more unique tag combinations you can create in a meal, the higher the stress bonus you'll receive.Like most things in Inn Kreeper, how you treat your guests is entirely up to you. As you progress, you'll unlock more ingredients from the various shops—and maybe even discover a few hidden ones along the way. What's next? While I've been checking major gameplay systems off my list, the next few weeks will be focused on creating assets for several new amenities, including:GreenhouseCoffee ShopSaunaBarEach amenity will influence your guests' fates in the afterlife ...

Devlog #1 — Welcome to the Inn!

Hello everyone! I'm the solo indie dev behind Inn Kreeper, a cozy‑horror management sim where you run a spooky mountain inn, terrify your guests (just a little), and collect the ghosts they leave behind.I’ve been quietly building the game for a while, and now that the Steam page is live, we’re excited to start sharing more about the world, the characters, and the strange little systems that make the inn come alive. What is Inn Kreeper? You play as The Kreeper, an undead homebody who would honestly rather stay inside playing video games with their rat roommate. Unfortunately, the mortgage on your abandoned mountain manor isn’t going to pay itself. So you turn the place into an inn with a… unique business model.Guests check in. You raise their stress. They meet an unfortunate end. And the ghosts they become? Those are your real revenue stream. It’s cozy, it’s creepy, and it’s all wrapped in chunky pixel art. What we’re working on right nowFor this first devlog, here’s a peek at some of the systems I’ve been polishing:Guest stress behaviors : how guests react as their nerves frayGhost evolution : each ghost grows through stages with new usesLighting + ambience : finding that perfect cozy‑creepy balanceI’ll be sharing more GIFs and screenshots as these systems come together. What’s coming nextOver the next few weeks, we’ll be working on:Additional room traps New AmenitiesUI improvementsA deeper look at the inn’s daily management loopIf you enjoy cozy games, management sims, pixel art, or spooky‑cute vibes, we think you’ll feel right at home here. Thanks for being hereThis is my first time posting on the Steam Community page, and I'm excited to start building this little corner of the internet with you. If you’d like to follow development or support the project, adding Inn Kreeper to your wishlist helps so much as a solo indie dev.Learn more: hauntedarcadegames.com/innkreeperSee you in the next devlog and welcome to the inn. 👻
