About this game

DREGS is a multiplayer co-op horror-comedy about a crew of clones recovering priceless relics from abandoned deep-space facilities.

And by "priceless relics," we mean plushies, ancient game consoles, bobble heads, and whatever else humanity left behind.

A mysterious client is paying absurd amounts of money for these ancient artifacts. Nobody knows why and nobody gets paid enough to ask.

Enter dangerous derelicts, find valuable relics, and get them back to extraction before everything goes catastrophically wrong.

Every mission is a balancing act between teamwork, greed, and terrible judgment.

Work together to search abandoned facilities.

Solve dangerous puzzles, recover valuable cargo, and try to keep the crew alive.

You won’t. But that’s fine. You are a disposable clone and there’s always another you.

The relics survived for centuries.

You probably won't.

Explore decaying facilities filled with environmental hazards, malfunctioning technology, and horrors that should have remained sealed forever.

The deeper you go, the greater the rewards.

The greater the rewards, the worse the decisions become.

Levels are alive with traps, hazards, and secrets.

Co-operative puzzles must be solved to gain access to new sections.

Hidden mysteries to uncover with your friends. If you can survive long enough...

Pivoting DREGS: A New Mission Structure

Changing the Shape of a DREGS MissionLet’s start with why we’re making a change.Recently, we interviewed players who we believed would enjoy DREGS. People who had seen the game, understood what it was, and still decided not to play it. We wanted to understand what was holding them back. The most consistent answer was also the most useful: DREGS looked fun, but its overall structure felt too similar to games they already owned. They wanted something that gave them a more novel reason to jump in.We believe the moment-to-moment experience in DREGS is inherently fun. Exploring hostile space facilities, solving environmental problems, carrying ridiculous objects, and watching your friends die avoidable deaths already creates the kinds of stories we want the game to deliver. But we also agree that the broader “go in, get junk, get out” loop has become familiar. Salvage runs can still be fun, but familiarity makes it harder for DREGS to establish an identity of its own.So, we’re changing the structure around those experiences. We’re keeping the parts of DREGS that work: the co-op chaos, dangerous exploration, physical interactions, environmental challenges, salvage, and disposable clones. But, moving away from a loop defined almost entirely by collecting as much loot as possible before escaping. This pivot involves two significant changes that we’ll deliver across two separate updates. This post covers the first up. We’ll talk about the second part, and how it expands the game further, in a future development blog.Removing the Mission TimerWe also learned that most players currently playing DREGS find the mission timer oppressive. The timer created pressure, but it often created the wrong kind of pressure. Instead of encouraging interesting decisions, it could hurry players past the best parts of a level. Exploration, experimentation, and the wonderfully bad ideas that make co-op games memorable were competing against a clock. Our goal for the next update is to replace that ...

DREGS Update: Friendship, Failure, and Hyperion

Happy International Friendship Day! To celebrate the bonds that hold a crew together we’re dropping our first major update. In DREGS friendship means blame, betrayals, and spectacular crew fails.Since launch, you’ve sent us a mountain of feedback, bug reports, clips, and suspiciously conflicting stories about what happened to your crewmates. We’ve been working through all of it.This update introduces Hyperion, a new map designed for veteran crews. We’ve also expanded the post-game experience, improved voice chat and online stability, shortened loading times, and fixed problems across the existing maps. Here’s what’s changed:New ContentNew Map: HyperionDesigned as a challenging map for your crew, Hyperion joins the map rotation. It is only available on DANGER 3+ and requires substantial game knowledge and expertise to make quota.Lasers + Hover Drones, what could go wrong…New Helmet: Suspicious MonkeyIt’s all sus. Bug Fixes & ImprovementsGameplay and SystemsDanger levels now have progression, you’ll have to complete a few missions at a danger level to unlock the next danger level.Keycards are no longer lost when you die.Reworked zombie resurrection to fix most cases where players saw different resurrection states.Doors and chompers now detonate volatile objects when closing on them.Angry CWR-KEY can now open locked airlock duct doors.Teleporter orbs now spawn according to the selected difficulty.Co-op triggers no longer erase scanned text when successfully completed.Fixed crates occasionally appear as the wrong object.Fixed a damage-classification issue.Hand Tools now apply more force to corpses - please use this information responsibly.Exploding Creep Goo Pods now have longer and more predictable fuses. No more extremely short surprise detonations.Map Fixes and TuningMothershipFixed the vending machine dispensing items from the wrong side.Players can no longer become trapped behind the second-floor shelves.HecateFixed several locations where players could become stuck...

The Map Is a Puzzle: How Metroidvania Inspired DREGS

DREGS is a co-op horror game, not a traditional metroidvania, metroidvania design had a major influence on how we built levels. Particularly the idea that exploring a map should be about more than moving from one room to the next. We wanted every map in DREGS to be something players gradually learn, unlock, and eventually master. What Is a Metroidvania? The term “metroidvania” comes from Metroid and Castlevania, two series closely associated with interconnected worlds that open gradually as players acquire new abilities, items, or knowledge. In a traditional metroidvania, players regularly encounter places they cannot yet reach: a passage that is too high, a barrier they cannot break, or a door that requires a particular power. Finding the appropriate ability allows them to return and discover that an apparently familiar area now contains an entirely new path. The defining idea is not simply that the map contains locked doors. It is that the map itself becomes a puzzle. Progress changes how players understand the space. Routes connect in unexpected ways, inaccessible areas become reachable, and returning to a familiar location can reveal something completely new. Over time, players stop feeling like visitors and begin to feel like experts. That feeling of spatial mastery was something we wanted to bring into DREGS.Giving Every Level a Core IdentityEach level in DREGS is built around a large set-piece puzzle that gives the location its mechanical identity.Kronos, for example, is a derelict prison ship. At the center of the level is a hub room we call the “laser maze.” Its alternating security lasers once prevented prisoners from escaping from the ship’s holding wing. Now, the same system stands between your crew and the most valuable parts of the abandoned vessel. This set piece is not separate from the environment or included simply to provide a puzzle room. It is part of the history and function of the location. Kronos was a prison, so its central challenge is about de...

Thank You for an Incredible Launch Weekend

To everyone who joined us for DREGS’ launch weekend: thank you.Watching you venture into the darkness, recover questionable salvage, and find increasingly creative ways to get your entire crew killed has been incredible. We’ve been following your streams, reading your reviews, and working through the feedback you’ve shared with us. Your enthusiasm has meant a great deal to our small team.We also want to thank every creator who streamed, recorded, or shared DREGS with their community. You took a chance on a brand-new game from an independent studio, and your coverage helped introduce the game to players around the world. We’re enormously grateful for that support and have prepared a highlight reel to celebrate you: Launch weekend was only the beginning. We’re committed to making DREGS better alongside our community. You can expect regular updates as we fix issues, improve the experience, and build on what’s working. We’ll also continue listening closely to your feedback as we determine where the game goes next. Our first update will be Thursday, July 30 and will come with some substantial changes to address some problems we’ve seen in streams and videos, some bug fixes based on your reports and some new content. In addition to a bunch of other changes we’ll be changing how danger levels work, and introducing a new map.Onboarding & DifficultyDANGER 4 is tuned to give us devs a hard time but many crews are setting it to 4 right after the first mission only to crash and burn. We’re going to change how you adjust danger levels so there is progression, you’ll have to earn your way up to 4 which will enable you to develop the necessary skills and map knowledge along the way to succeed.New MapThe metroidvania map design is working well, most of you have yet to visit all the rooms or discover all the secrets the maps hold. We’ll do a deeper dive on this design in the future post. For now we’ll share that we’ll be adding a new map in the next update that is intended for veteran...

    Early Access Launch

Nine months ago, T-Minus Zero Entertainment was shut down by our former parent company. We weren’t ready to walk away so we rebooted the studio as a small independent team and immediately began building something new.DREGS is that game.Launching into Early Access is only the beginning for DREGS. We have plenty of ideas for where the game can go, but we also want its future to be shaped by the people actually playing it. Your feedback will help us decide what needs attention, what should be expanded, and which parts of the experience create the moments worth building around. We’re a small team, so every review, discussion post, bug report, gameplay clip, stream, and message genuinely matters. Tell us what you love, what frustrates you, what made your crew laugh, and what you want to see next. We’ll be listening, learning, fixing, balancing, and working to make DREGS better with every update.Thank you for giving us a chance. -The T-Minus Zero teamps: come join us on Discord
