Dev Log Vol.4 Everyone Has the Right to Be Treated with Kindness

As I write this developer log, I believe our DEMO should be close to passing the review process. Originally, we had planned to conduct a small-scale playtest last month, but Steam's review schedule disrupted our timeline. As a result, we switched to a small-scale internal test within our Chinese player community. We'd also like to take this opportunity to apologize to our overseas supporters. Once the DEMO passes review, we will quickly move forward with our first public test. Back to the main topic. After the small-scale internal test, we received positive feedback and valuable suggestions from players. We've been working on optimizing the experience based on that feedback, striving to deliver the smoothest possible experience to our players. In the early stages of the project, we spent many months refining the script and camera work. While some aspects didn't achieve the ideal presentation we envisioned due to budget constraints, we carefully designed some expressive approaches that are completely different from other works in the same genre within our limited budget. I'll keep the details under wraps for now, but I believe that once you experience the full version, you'll appreciate these thoughtfully crafted differences from similar titles—and that's exactly the kind of experience we want to bring to you. Interactive film games are still relatively niche in both the gaming and film industries. However, through our operations and development efforts, we've discovered a dedicated fan base that loves this genre and has shown remarkable enthusiasm for this comparatively niche category (in our 30-minute internal test DEMO, some players in the test group logged over 20 hours of playtime). I've always believed that no matter how niche a hobby may be, it deserves respect and gentle treatment. That's why, from the very beginning of the project, we didn't follow the traffic-driven approach of other projects. Instead, we focused on the script and the emotional depth of the...

    Dev Log Vol.03

Hello everyone, this is the dev team.Over the past two weeks, the whole team has been grinding hard on the Demo, and progress has been racing forward. We'll keep what exactly we've been up to a surprise for now—suffice to say, everything that should and could be done, we've been cramming it in.First, the not-so-smooth news: we submitted the first build of the Demo for Steam review, and so far we haven't received a clear response yet. Our guess is it might have clashed with the World Cup schedule, making the review queue longer than a convenience store during morning rush hour—maybe the reviewers are watching the match while reviewing our build, getting hyped over a goal, then suddenly remembering: "Oh right, there was a game to review." Whatever the reason, we'll keep following up and share any updates as soon as we have them. The good news: the main storyline feature is essentially complete. The entire narrative arc runs smoothly from start to finish—what's left is polishing and enriching the experience. No spoilers on the details here; we'll leave that for you to feel for yourselves. Also, the overall post-production style has now been finalized, and it won't be long before you can try it out for yourselves in the Demo.Next up, we'll be adding even more—interactive exploration and mini-games. The idea is: rather than just having players passively watch and pick options, we want to use more forms of interaction to give you a sense of immersion that goes beyond "ordinary choices." As for how exactly that plays out… you'll find out when the Demo goes live.Don't worry though, it definitely won't be too hard. Our goal is lighthearted fun—to keep you immersed in the story, not push you away with difficulty. The storyline is ready, more content is on the way, and we'll keep a close eye on the review.Thank you to every player who's been waiting—see you in the next dev log. Hopefully by then we can say: the Demo passed review—come play!

Dev Log Vol.02 | We're actively preparing the demo

Hello everyone! We've been working hard on the SOS demo and wanted to share an update on where things stand.A portion of the demo's story content has been completed and is currently in post-production — including editing, pacing, color grading, and voice/sound integration. This stage takes time, but it's key to delivering a more polished and immersive experience. We hope to have it ready for you soon.On top of content production, we've also built an internal tool called SOS Tool —a dedicated editor for creating story segments and configuring in-game choices. By making content more configurable, we can produce story content more efficiently, adjust flows more easily, and iterate faster throughout development. This tool will also serve as a key foundation for future updates to SOS.Regarding the demo, we plan to first release it through Steam Playtest, allowing everyone to experience the game early and help us gather feedback to further refine the experience. After the Playtest phase, we will make optimizations based on player feedback and then release a publicly downloadable demo available to all players. We will announce the specific release date as soon as preparations are complete. We kindly ask for your patience — and a huge thank you to every player who has followed SOS, added it to their wishlist, or offered suggestions. Your support has always been our greatest motivation to keep moving forward. Finally, on behalf of our editing team, we'd like to ask you a question:Given the same story content, would you prefer a more streamlined visual style and tighter storytelling, or a more rhythmically paced narrative with richer environmental details and close-up shots? In other words — between storytelling coherence and rhythmic pacing, which matters more to you?Let us know in the comments!

    Dev Log Vol.01

Hey everyone, and welcome to our very first dev diary. We are the team making SOS! Love Controlled. Most of us come from traditional game development, with experience across both premium single-player titles and live-service mobile games. This is our first interactive movie game, so it is new territory for us, and we are genuinely excited about it.To do this right, we teamed up with experienced film professionals and a dedicated music team. Production, post, and audio are being built together from day one, so the storytelling, performances, and overall mood can support each other. So far, the collaboration has gone smoothly, and development is moving forward on schedule. Our goal with this project is simple: tell a story in a way only games can.Film can make you care about characters, but interactive storytelling lets you step into the moment and make the call yourself. We want every key choice to feel personal, and we want the emotional payoff to come from your decisions.Quick progress update:Filming is complete. We are now deep into post-production and music production. On the game side, core systems are partially implemented, but we are still in an early phase overall. Right now, we are focused on building a strong technical foundation first, so we can keep the experience stable and avoid costly bugs later in development.Thank you for following the project and supporting us this early. We will keep posting regular updates and sharing more as we go. If you have feedback or questions, we would love to hear from you.Welcome to discord channel official community for SOS! Love Control!
