About this game
Lead a ragtag company of sellswords through a dangerous, living fantasy world in this turn‑based tactics RPG built by a solo indie developer with two decades of passion behind it. If you’ve ever loved turn-based tactics games and wished they leaned harder into deep fantasy — more races, more magic, more lore — this is exactly that.
Forge a Brotherhood That Feels Alive
Your mercenaries aren’t pre‑written heroes. They’re emergent characters shaped by:
Races, backgrounds, traits, and skill growth that evolve in unexpected ways
Memories of their first kills, close calls, triumphs, and failures
Obituaries that recount their journey when they fall in battle
A world that remembers — towns react to your deeds, losses, and reputation
Every run becomes its own story.
Deep, Flexible Progression
Build each mercenary into something unique through:
XP‑driven skill trees and trait unlocks
Equipment builds and magical loadouts
Powerful awakening traits earned only by your strongest veterans

Mercenaries can learn skills and each of those 40+ skills has their own skill tree
A Vast Fantasy Sandbox
20+ playable races — from humans and dwarves to Dragonkin, Vamplings, Wraithkin, and other rare beings
20+ enemy factions — bandits, goblins, vampire empires, dark elves, hordes of demons and more
Unlockable content as your company grows: new races, factions, features, and late‑game bosses
Tactical Isometric Combat With Teeth
Positioning, morale, terrain, and abilities matter. Fights are lethal. Mistakes cost lives. Victories feel earned.

Battles as small as a handful on each side or as large as 50+
Loot With Personality
Discover legendary magical relics with real power and real drawbacks. That cursed blade might make you unstoppable… or get your best fighter killed.
A Solo‑Dev Indie Project Built With Love
This game has been my passion project for over 20 years — something I’ve rebuilt, reimagined, and carried with me across most of my life. I’m finally able to share it with you, and development is active and ongoing. If you enjoy deep tactics, emergent storytelling, and weird fantasy, I hope you’ll join the Brotherhood.

Roadmap Update
Updates to Roadmap - Journey to Early AccessWhen I last did the roadmap, it was before the demo launch. Before then I had play testers who provided a lot of feedback so I was pretty sure the state of the game and was sure it was solid. Well like any good plan, once it was played by more than a few people it was clear it needed more work. There weren't stability issues just many usability tweaks needed as well as many smaller bugs. Also, there was a large amount of interest from Chinese and French players so that led to a lot of work adding in early translations to the game. However there also was enough interest in the game to justify commissioned art so I started commissioning art for that game. This part has been a lesson learned for me, that unless I have dedicated people doing the art, it takes a lot longer than I was originally expecting.Overall the beta resulted in a far better game, so I am quite happy with it. Also found man people playing it for 10, 20 and even 100+ hours even though the content was only 20% in the demo. The roadmap only glosses over some of the changes. It doesn't even go into a complete overhaul or the ascension area, some of the emergent story line aspects or flattening the maps to remove multi-floor buildings (that really made some maps not fun at all). What's Coming For September-OctoberThe largest amount of work will be with continuing to polishing the UI. Tweaking graphics, replacing some with commission art, refining tooltips to be more clear, etc. There are many areas I want to keep refining it just takes time. Another area I will focus on is balancing around mid-late game. With all the different mid-late game factions, plus all the ways to grow and evolve units, finding a happy balance here will be a lot of work and will take a lot of time. The existing tutorial is only ok. Better than nothing but still doesn't ease people in. I took some time to play other games to see how they do tutorials so I want to go back and really adjust h...Read full article on Community Announcements (alhoward)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Patch - Aug 19 - Bug Fixes + Mid Game Balances Changes
This demo patch is a collection of miscellaneous bug fixes and mid game balance changes as reported by players. Most are ones that won't be visible to most players as they are more in the mid game stage.Tip: - First couple level ups are really fast. Subsequent levels are much slower. UI: - Show characters hometown on their character sheet - Tweak to look of the faith section of character sheet Balance: - Improve loot drop variety. While enemies still are most likely to drop the weapon they are wielding, such as a sword, they now have a chance to drop other equipment as well. This addresses and issue where weapons like javelins were hard to find- Mercs stay in their faith for life. No more conversion - Using mechanical crossbows or hand cannons help discover tinkering - Settlement reputation drops much slowerFixes:- Tinkering skill levels up much faster- Kills with magic now count towards ascension experience - Fix a problem with hermits and mystic trainers not properly giving out skillsRead full article on Community Announcements (alhoward)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Patch - Aug 16 - Improved translations +
This demo hotfix focuses primarily on the translations plus on fix for Vendetta weapons. Tip: - The demo caps out at about 20% of the games content however you can keep playing. This is why some people find the enemy variety lacking after 20 hours or so. Translations:- About 40 different changes focusing on improving the current translations. Many of them were minor (a couple words here or there that weren't translated, or a hover over that wasn't) while others focused on either French or simplified Chinese specific translation issues.Fixes:- Vendetta items were bugged. They didn't have icons, sell for 0 gold, and some aren't even equippable.Read full article on Community Announcements (alhoward)AnnouncementsOfficial
Testing French and Simplified Chinese Translations
3 Interesting Facts About Mercenary Brotherhood In Different LanguagesAn interesting fact is that even though this game was made primarily for English, as I wasn't sure if there would be interest in other areas, 60% of the wishlists and players speak French and Simplified Chinese. Second interesting fact is that one of the things that has caused crashes during the demo are players using some sort of tool to force the game to run in Simplified Chinese. Not sure how, but very impressive what they did when all my crash logs were in Chinese. Finally, the cost to translate a game with this much text for just one language would cost around the same amount as replacing all the art in this game with commissioned art. Art to me is a much higher priority.Beta Testing French and Simplified Chinese TranslationsSimple Google Translate take literal translations and often gets things wrong. Or it feels clunky.Instead I spent the last two weeks coming up with a new type of translations called Context & Intent Translations. So instead of it translating the words, it looks at what I wrote in English, and then the intent and context of my game and then writes all the text from scratch in a new language. This is now implemented in the Beta version of the demo and can be switched on the main home page of the game.Early Feedback So far I had feedback from one French player and it was better than he expected. I have since made tweaks based on his feedback. No testing yet for Simplified Chinese however it should be better than the tool those players were using.Ask of Player Community I would really appreciate a couple players who speak both English and either French or Simplified Chinese to play for an hour or two. In the Steam discussion forum for this game let me know how it goes. If this is close and just needs more tweaks then I will officially support French and Simplified Chinese in this game right away. If there is no way to get this good enough with this technology then I will pull ...Read full article on Community Announcements (alhoward)Patch NotesOfficial
