About this game
Backrooms: Impending Doom - Demo
A first-person psychological horror game about a failed research expedition into the Backrooms. Level 0 is where it starts. It is not where it ends.
What was meant to be a routine expedition ends in disappearance inside Level 0. The team is gone. Landmarks lose their meaning. Space stops obeying logic, and every new zone tightens its grip on your perception, memory, and sense of direction.
You will explore liminal spaces, follow the traces of the expedition, and piece together what really happened. Your stamina runs dry faster than expected. Your Synchronization - your connection to reality - weakens with every minute you spend here. The tension is not built on cheap jump scares - it is built on disorientation, oppressive silence, sounds with no business being where they are, and the constant feeling that reality is becoming less and less reliable.
Explore a distorted Level 0
Make your way through endless yellow corridors, technical passages, and unstable sections of space where familiar points of reference stop working. The deeper you go, the more the world breaks your sense of order and safety. Level 0 is where the trail begins. The expedition went further. So will you.
A story told through the environment
The story is revealed not only through words, but through environmental details, traces of the expedition, visual inconsistencies, and fragments of a system the player is granted access to. This is a story you must assemble yourself, step by step, room by room.
Psychological pressure instead of cheap tricks
Backrooms: Impending Doom focuses on atmosphere, anticipation, and mounting inner tension. The fear comes from the unknown, from the broken logic of the space, and from the feeling that you have gone too far into a place never meant for people.
The terminal and dossiers are part of the world
The game is framed through a terminal, classified records, and incident dossiers. This makes the experience feel like more than a walk through the Backrooms. It feels like gaining access to a sealed archive about a place no one was ever meant to enter.
What's in the Demo
This free demo is the complete Prologue: the story's opening, the game's core mechanics, and your first encounter with the mystery at its heart. The full game, with Episode 1 and Episode 2, comes later - and will replace the demo on this page.

«NOCLIP» - HOTFIX v2
Hello ResearcherHotfix V2 is here. A pass on the Prologue demo: clearer HUD, a more readable in-world PC, a nastier no-run corridor, and a pile of localization / VO fixes. Improvements Objective tracker and notifications are larger and easier to read. In-world PC: scrollbar reskinned, text size and readability improved. No-run zone effects ramped up. Multiple objectives can be active at the same time. A few more objectives, so you actually know what to do ːsteammockingː Increased the flash drive's signal radius near the new HQ.Changes Removed Custom from Graphics Preset. Fixes Localization fixes in many places across the game. Prologue dialogue: some lines were simply missing. The modulator could fail to play sound in some cases. An objective could be assigned too early after GH4 activates. Assigning two objectives at the same time played the objective sound twice. We are waiting for your feedback!ːsteamhappyːRead full article on Community Announcements (FINITO)Patch NotesOfficial
«NOCLIP» - HOTFIX v1
Hello Researcher! We've pushed a small update to tackle bugs and improve stability. Fixes Fixed several issues in menus and settings Improved overall stability on low and medium preset. Now, you are able to open up in-game menu in the cutscene. Before this update, if the any dropdown in the in-game menu has been opened and the menu itself has been closed - dropdown would still be on screen. The ending of the first cutscene has been fixed. Some debug triggers were turned off. (I guess, we've just forgot the turn them off before releasing) Thank you for the reports — keep them coming.Read full article on Community Announcements (F1N170)
