RanaRangam: Where Chess Pieces Bleed

RanaRangam reimagines chess as a tactical battle of health, attacks, and step-by-step commands. Instead of instant captures, pieces can be commanded to any valid tile and then advance one step per turn, turning movement, combat, and board control into a deeper tactical battle.

About this game

RanaRangam turns classic chess into a tactical battlefield where every command continues beyond a single turn.

Pieces do not instantly jump to their destination. They move step by step toward the command you give them, allowing multiple pieces to carry out their orders at the same time. Your army keeps advancing, clashing, healing, and threatening the board as every decision unfolds over time.

COMMANDS KEEP MOVING

Plan ahead, control key tiles, and create pressure with pieces that continue following their assigned commands. A single move can become a future attack, a block, or a setup for something bigger.

POSITIONING CREATES SUPPORT

Pieces are not only useful for attacking. With the right positioning, they can support friendly units on valid tiles to restore health, making formation and defense just as important as offense.

CHECKS NOW BLEED THE KING

There is no instant checkmate. The King must be defeated. Checks still matter, but now they deal damage to the King, creating constant pressure and forcing you to respect dangerous positions.

ULTIMATES CAN TURN THE BATTLE

Ultimate abilities are tied to each piece’s valid tiles. If enemies are standing in those tiles, the ultimate can punish them, making positioning and timing just as important as the ability itself.

Built on familiar chess foundations, RanaRangam turns every match into a living tactical fight where movement, combat, healing, pressure, and timing decide who survives.

A Major RanaRangam Update Is Coming — Campaign Mode & Gameplay Rework

A Major Gameplay Update Is Coming to RanaRangamA major gameplay update is coming within the next two weeks, alongside the new Campaign Mode. The focus of this update is simple:Faster movement, clearer rules, and more meaningful battles.🏰 Campaign ModeFight through a series of connected battles.Arrange your army before each battleChoose your UltimatesComplete objectives to earn pieces, stat upgrades, and special bonusesBuild your army stronger as you progressCarry surviving pieces and earned upgrades into later stages♟️ Movement is becoming much fasterPreviously, long-range pieces such as the Queen, Rook and Bishop moved toward their destination one tile at a time over multiple turns. This is changing.Pieces will now complete their movement to the selected destination in a single move. This makes repositioning your army much faster and removes a lot of waiting between commands. However, combat still works differently. If an enemy has enough Health to survive an attack, defeating that piece can still require multiple turns of combat. So movement becomes faster, while battles between pieces still have weight.👑 The King's Check system is changingI'm also changing how Check works.Previously, placing the King in Check could automatically deal 100 damage to the King. That system is being removed. In the new version:The King has 200 Health.Check itself does not automatically deal damage. The King cannot move onto a tile that would leave it in Check. To damage the King, you need to actually attack it.I found that this makes the game feel more intense cause now the king cant move to any tile. Thanks to everyone who has tried the game so far.

Random Play Customization & Seeded Match Restart

    ## Gameplay Patch Notes ### Random Play Team Health - Added customizable team health for Random Play. - Team health can be set from 2,000 to 4,700 in increments of 100. - Pieces are generated at full health whenever possible. - When the remaining health cannot fit a full piece, the lowest-value available piece is spawned with partial health. - Added a Mirrored Teams option so both teams can use matching piece compositions and health. ### Starting Position Seeds - Added deterministic seeds for Random Start and Random Play. - Seeds range from 1 to 999999. - Added three seed modes: - Random: Generates a new seed every match. - Fixed: Reuses the selected seed, recreating the same starting layout. - Increment: Advances the seed by one after each match. - The current match seed is displayed in Gameplay Settings. - In Play With Friends, the authoritative seed is shared with both players. ### Restart Match - Added an immediate Restart button to the pause menu. - Added Ctrl+R as a restart shortcut. - Restarting follows the selected seed mode. - Restarting abandons the current match without awarding XP or Ranked Rating and without recording a win or loss. - Restart is available in single-player, local multiplayer, and to the Play With Friends host. - Restart is unavailable in ranked matches, tutorials, and for online guests. - No confirmation dialog is shown when restarting.
