About this game

Welcome to Project AsteroidZ — a love letter to the classic Asteroids formula, rebuilt from the ground up and cranked into overdrive. Whether you're here for a quick blast of retro arcade action or looking to sink your teeth into a full story campaign, there's something for you.

Grab your ship, take a breath, and dive in — waves of asteroids, alien fleets, and rogue mines are waiting, and every run is a chance to top your own high score.

What You Can Play Right Now

- Arcade Mode — jump straight into the action. Blast through escalating waves of asteroids, mines, drones, and alien invaders, chain combos for huge scores, and test yourself against boss fights every 5th wave.

- Survival Mode — a pure test of nerve. No waves, no mercy — just you against relentlessly scaling hazards. How long can you hold out?

- Prison Mining — want more story with your shooting? This campaign mode follows your journey working off a sentence hauling salvage in deep space, with voiced characters and a world that grows with you.

- Prestige System — every run banks salvage toward permanent upgrades, so nothing you earn is ever wasted.

- A full loadout of power-ups — shields, triple shot, nukes, rapid burst, and more — to keep every run feeling fresh.

- Comfortable controls out of the box, with full support for both mouse/keyboard and gamepad.

What's Coming Soon

Local co-op and Steam online multiplayer are in the oven! They're playable in early testing, but we want them running smooth and bug-free before we hand them to you. We're not ones to ship something broken — so multiplayer will make its return in a future update once it's truly ready. Wishlist or follow the game to be the first to know when it drops.

Thanks for stopping by — we hope you have a blast. 🚀 If you enjoy your time with Project AsteroidZ, we'd love to hear about it — a review helps us out more than you know and helps other players find us too.

    Beta Branch Is Now Open

I've set up a beta branch for Project AsteroidZ, and anyone who owns the game can opt into it.Here's the idea. I'm one person. When I change something, I can test it on my machine and convince myself it works — and then someone plays it in a way I never thought of and finds the thing I missed. The beta branch is where changes go \before\ they hit everyone, so if something's broken it breaks for a handful of people who signed up for it instead of for the whole player base. How to opt inRight-click Project AsteroidZ in your Steam LibraryClick PropertiesGo to the Betas tabPick the beta branch from the dropdownLet it update, and you're on itSwitching back is the same steps — just select NoneWhat's on beta right nowQuite a lot, honestly:Power-ups now last until you die instead of expiring on a timer, and they stackRapid Fire completely reworked — heat is the limit now, not a countdownBoost builds heat and can overheat, so it's not unlimited anymoreA new power-up, NEVER-MELT-ICE, that cools your lasersThe prison ship is finally visible in the background during Prison MiningNew Evil Orb artwork, plus a lot of fixes to things that were quietly brokenMultiplayer is coming to beta soonThat's the next thing landing here. I want it tested properly on the beta branch before it goes out to everyone, because multiplayer is exactly the kind of feature that works perfectly on my machine and falls apart the moment two real people in two real houses try it.If you try itTell me what breaks. Genuinely — that's the entire point of the branch, and it's the fastest way to make this game better. A player reported two bugs recently and both were fixed within days, and one of his suggestions ended up reshaping the whole weapon system.Beta builds move fast and they might break. If that's not what you're after, stay on the default branch and you'll get everything once it's proven. Thanks for playing.
