About this game

National Transit puts you in charge of a nation's entire transport infrastructure — from the first dirt road connecting two villages, to a rail network spanning your country, to international airports that transform your greatest cities.

Your goal is simple: build connections, grow your economy, raise your people's prosperity. The rest is up to you. It all starts with a freshly generated world — one nobody has ever seen before, and nobody ever will again.

Roll a New World
Set the dials — how mountainous, how wet, how scattered the coast — then let the world surprise you. You choose the broad strokes; the map decides the rest. Where the rivers run, where the natural harbors hide, which valley is begging for its first railway — none of it is revealed until the moment the world unfolds in front of you. Every new map is a fresh hand of cards: sometimes a mountain-locked inland nation, sometimes a long open coastline strewn with islands. Scout it like an explorer, find the place where your story begins — or roll again and see what the next world deals you.

Connect Your Cities
Place roads, railways (standard and high-speed), waterways, and air routes between cities of all sizes — from remote hamlets to bustling capitals. Terrain pushes back: rivers carve natural corridors, wide waters demand bridges or tunnels, and mountains make you choose between the long way around and the expensive way through. Every connection you build generates trade, moves people, and grows your economy.

Watch Your Economy Evolve
Transport infrastructure drives everything — trade, migration, and the growth of every city on the map. Enact city policies — special economic zones, free ports, university towns, stock exchanges — to steer each city's rise. Read it all in full financial statements, from monthly income to your nation's balance sheet.

Step Into Your Cities
Every city on the national map can be entered and shaped up close. Draw the streets yourself, lay out metro, light rail, tram, and bus lines, and watch districts fill in with buildings and the businesses that move in.
As your cities mature, logistics firms, financial institutions, and industrial conglomerates take root — and if you build well enough, world-class corporations and international organizations establish themselves in your largest metropolises and your capital. Then put your city to the test: pick any two doorsteps and navigate between them — on foot, by car, or riding the very transit lines you built, transfers and all. Watching a journey thread through your own metro map is the moment your city stops being a drawing and starts being a place.

Your Nation, Your Identity
Name your country. Choose its capital, its flag, its domain suffix. Draw and redraw your internal provinces as your nation grows. Every nation you build is uniquely yours — from its geography to its economy to the companies that bear your chosen name.

v0.2.4 — Modes compete on adjusted time, and route cards show the breakdown

Every mode is now compared in hours: the fare is divided by travellers' value of time and added to the journey. Route cards show that sum as an equation you can read.Route cardsTime breakdown — for road, rail, air and waterChoice cost as an equation — travel time + fare ÷ value of time = the hours a route really costs, followed by its comfort weight"Preference weight" renamed comfort weight; Help now lists every value — road / conventional rail / water 1, passenger high-speed rail 1.15, freight high-speed rail 1, aviation keeps its distance curveMode competitionRoad, rail, air and water are judged on one number in hours, in a single step — not by a separate rule per modePassengers use two values of time; high-speed rail's quality preference is separate from conventional rail'sFixed: air trips with feeder legs at both ends counted transfer time twice — those journey times were inflatedCity MapStreet openings only appear where you can build; entering a city clears stranded ones left by older savesOpening rendering is cached and viewport-culled

National Transit v0.2.3 — Faster Cities, Smoother Roads

This update delivers major performance improvements to the City Map, especially for large cities with dense and complex road networks. City Map Performance Improvements Significantly faster City Map loading Smoother performance in large cities Reduced pauses after building or editing roads Faster road-network processing Improved traffic-flow calculations and updates More responsive traffic and travel-demand views Better performance as road networks grow in size and complexity Heavy traffic calculations now run separately from the main interface, making road construction, network editing, and general City Map navigation feel much more responsive. Official City Map Tutorials Coming Soon We know that road construction, junction design, and traffic-network planning can take time to master. Official tutorials are coming soon, covering topics such as: City Map road-building basics Planning arterial roads and local streets Designing merges, splits, and complex junctions Identifying and reducing congestion Coordinating roads with public transport Building effective networks for larger cities Thank you for all your feedback. Building and managing a major city should now feel considerably faster and smoother.

v0.2.0 Is Live — The Simulation Update

Fellow national transportation leaders, v0.2.0 is now the default version. No beta opt-in needed — launch the game and it's there. If you've been playing on the beta branch, you can switch back to Default public version in the same menu; both branches run the same build, so your saves open either way. Two notices before the tour: 1. If you are carrying a save over from v0.1, read the next section first. The economy has been repriced, and your numbers will move the moment you load. 2. The 10-day window at $4.99 closes on Monday, August 31, when the price rises to $7.99 (regional prices adjusted proportionally). Details at the bottom. Before You Load an Old SaveFour things you already know change on purpose in v0.2.0. Everything else in this update is additive.Policy economics repriced — expect GDP per capita to fall by roughly 40–50%. Policies in the same city used to multiply cleanly and compound for a decade. They now stack with decay — each further policy counts 0.6× as much as the one before — and compounding is capped at 6 years instead of 10. The old maths turned the mid-game into a runaway ratchet. The game shows a one-time "economy recalibrated" notice when it happens, milestones you already earned (and their bonuses) are kept, and the new pace is roughly 10–14 years from $10k to $20k per capita.Railway capacity now comes from the timetable — saturation readings will change. Running-line slots were re-anchored to real operating patterns (a single track carries 24 daily paths, not 8), and link capacity is derived from those slots instead of a second, separately tuned table. A railway whose timetable was completely full used to read "clear" on the saturation map while the line editor insisted not one more train would fit. Both now tell the same story — and a single passenger line no longer eats an entire single-track corridor.Your credit line is recalculated — and only a genuinely stuck save is bailed out. Existing loans keep their principal, rate and monthly pa...

v0.2.0 Beta Out Now: Our Biggest Update Yet

v0.2.0 Open Beta Is Live — The Simulation Update Fellow national transportation leaders, v0.2.0 is the biggest update since launch, and almost all of it goes into the heart of the game: the national simulation. Demand, competition between modes, railways, aviation, shipping, the economy — nearly every system has been deepened, clarified, or rebuilt. You can play it right now on the public beta branch; the stable release is planned for early-September. One important notice up front: From September 1st, the price will increase from $4.99 to $7.99 (regional prices adjusted proportionally). Details at the bottom. How to access v0.2.0 beta preview Back up your saves first — copy this folder somewhere safe (Suggestion: save it locally on your machine), In your Steam client: "Library -> National Transit -> (right click) Properties -> Game version & betas" https://clan.akamai.steamstatic.com/images/46088660/ecb5d14fed057a0d68563b9a9c7f8f7084113b3f.gif To return to v0.1 later: same menu, select Default public version. If a save written by v0.2 won't open there, restore your backup Transport Demand, More Transparent https://clan.akamai.steamstatic.com/images/46088660/655a7f50dd1c5fb7088390a4025eb069069a7f53.png The demand panel has been redesigned from the ground up. It now reads like an answer, not a spreadsheet: A national overview, then three focused tabs that drill from country level down to a single origin–destination pair Graphical flow details for every pair — who travels, which modes they chose, and how your services competed Every lost trip now has a stated reason: too slow, too expensive, no connection, not enough capacity Rail service grades are distinguished in demand, so express and local services compete the way they should Modes That Truly Compete Aviation gets last-mile legs — air trips now include the land journey to and from the airport, and routes compete on total travel time, not raw distance Shipping connects to rail — water routes gain rail feeders, with...
