About this game

A Noble Steed is an old-school RPG set in a post-apocalyptic medieval world. After a long war, a mysterious Rot has taken hold across the land, mostly affecting magical creatures at first - but now it has started to infect the humanoid races of the world too.

Take the reins to slay hordes of zombies and defend what's left of the realm. Explore a completely open world to find new weapons and armour, smash environmental objects for loot, and piece together the origins of The Rot.

Face off against bosses that test your skills in mounted combat - fight zombie fairies, undead unicorns, and rotten dragons.

As you obliterate the hordes, the speed you're travelling is just as important as your stats and equipment. If you get slowed down or separated from your horse, the zombies won't take long to overpower you, even in full plate armour!

Use your loot to level up, upgrade your farm and the village. Travellers are making their way to your village each day in search of a safe refuge. If you make the path safe for them your population will increase, which will unlock new NPC's, buildings and upgrades.

However, if somebody is overwhelmed by zombies, they will then themselves join the horde. Although many are safe in the villages, NPC's are just as vulnerable as you are.

Work your way up from the broken remains of a once-thriving homestead to create a beautiful estate. Help out your villagers by upgrading them from tents and huts to safe and warm houses, improving the lives of those who live alongside you. You'll meet many different walks of life with unique ideas on how best to deal with The Rot and each other, as many have been spread far from their homes.

Each Steed has its own unique personality which affects how it behaves and physically moves - some are lazy and like to eat, some are more spicy and will be agitated if not on the move. With over a million possible colour, marking and stat variations on top of their personalities, each is unique and you probably won't see the same one twice!

You can back loose Steeds from the battlefields, and use them to breed new ones to take your combat to the next level. Maybe you'll make your fortune selling them so that others can fight for survival too. Selling Steeds makes them available for others to use in the fight against The Rot. The more that you send out into the world, the larger the groups of other Knights will be patrolling the area, further aiding you in keeping the roads safe.

The Demo (Launching Imminently!)

  • Horse breeding, with a handful of personalities and markings still making over a million possibilities!

  • Maximum 10 horses

The Full Game (Launching around Halloween 2026!)

  • 10 Boss Battles, plus a few mini-bosses

  • Many enemy types, loosely based on European Legends and Mythology.

  • A large open world to explore full of characters to meet, horses to find, and information to seek.

  • Up to 50 horses on your farm, with 12 base colours, eight personalities, over a million possible slot-based marking combinations, and five performance tiers (I honestly have no idea how many combinations it comes out to, but the last time I checked it was well over four million!)

    Demo V1.04 Update Notes!

V1.04 Update Notes! General:- Reduced camera movement and made it much smoother - Increased general game brightness and increased the settings slider range, also adjusted the day/night cycle as it was getting dark at 3. Controls and HUD:- Gates now open and close automatically - Added three new keybindings to replace ones "E" was covering. It might feel a bit crazy to start BUT, these new keybindings now come with their own fancy new UI buttons and art, so I am hoping they are Clear and Clickable! - B now does "buying" - so shopping, upgrading and breeding- Z does selling- C is for Claiming (and toggling name tags) - E remains for Talking, Reading, Opening Chests and Sleeping (interacting in general) - Added buttons for going home and respawning on the pause menuSteeds:- Horses are now idling correctly when dismounted, so you can see their lovely personalities- Added rare colour mutations to the Tier 2 spawners so you don't get stuck on Bay early on if you haven't got the Grey or Dark Chestnut. Mobs:- Mobs and NPC's are now despawning/spawning like they're supposed to and don't form small armies- Fixed some floaty mobs.Player:- Fixed an issue where it was possible to speed up, slow down and jump while unmounted I should have some time this evening to have another look and get going on the tutorial/guide bits. I'm not talking about the E bug because if I say anything it's going to turn up in a new place 🤣

    Demo Launch!

As expected, launching the demo for my first game was uh, a bit mad! I fixed a lot of things yesterday and then V1.02 has just gone out which tidied up some last little bits that were causing problems. Fixed the Knights being very confusedFixed a bug where you'd sometimes get on a horse backwardsReduced camera movement as it was a bit muchFixed an issue causing foals to re-roll their markings in certain situationsFixed an issue where it was impossible to actually sell a horse because you had to stand too close to it Fixed an issue with a starter chest continuing to give out gearOpened chests now stay open on re-loading. Next up, I think the general consensus is 10 horses is a BIT limited for the demo, so I will be increasing the limit and putting up some kind of display regarding farm space.I would like to add a settings menu with at least volume control, brightness and contrast, and I think generally some kind of guide to refer back to as to what's going on would be helpful. Then I want to work on things like a map, making notes sparkle if they haven't been read, and lots of little quality of life type things.

Final Dev Log Before Demo Launch!

Final devlog before the demo launches! I've sent the Demo build off to Steam so it's just a case of waiting for approval now. Here are some clips from the first 30 mins or so of the demo. Here's what's been done since my last update:- I've broken the horse sprites up into a bunch of pieces and overhauled their animations so their necks, shoulders, haunches, ears etc all now move.- Steeds now have unique personalities - so they don't all move and act the same way! These aren't "traits" written down anywhere and they don't have names, but they completely change all aspects of the movement and behaviour of the individual steed - each gait has a different animation override and jumping is different as well. Different personalities have small boosts to certain stats.- Also made them a tad smaller to be more historically accurate. As the art has been re-done I also gave them some subtle shading to match the rest of the art, and there's a few different bases - roan, dun (with stripes!), points etc - so that the colours feel accurate. The sprites are based on medieval tapestries and are a kind of goofy Destrier.- Markings are now per-body-part, meaning many more millions of possible combinations, and the system has been simplified so it's very easy to add new markings. The chances of getting markings have been lowered as breeding was resulting in fully painted horses almost every time.- Face markings are now showing up as intended in all directions.- Personalities and markings are RNG for now so a bit like real life, while there's a bit of a formula for getting the base colour you want and improving stats, the rest is up to chance.- Added more colours such as silver dapple and red roan.Other Stuff:- Added more detail to existing building models, such as wood panelling and clearer 3D doors.- Added readable books/notes and lore- Added variety to all the zombies, added some difficulty scaling for areas further out, and added two new enemy/mob types.- Fixed many things- Added th...
