MY Only Heroes!
My Only Heroes: Development Update 1I’ve been working on this game off and on since I made Fourteen Fiends. When I originally created 14F, I designed it as a physical card game—I actually have the one and only physical copy! I’m too poor to get a full print run for now, but maybe someday. When I made the Steam version of 14F, for some crazy reason I really wanted the mechanics to match the real-life card game counterpart. While I think 14F is a fun enough game, it really limited what I could do since I had to imagine how it would work in a physical format. The Evolution of the ConceptThat’s where My Only Heroes comes in! I started with the base concept from 14F where each card has three main stats: HP, SP, and Attack.Turn Order: Decided by the fastest card.Equipment: You can equip cards with loot found in the dungeon to boost their stats. Be careful, though—swords and armor will break over time! The Hub: You can buy and sell loot at the Merchant, craft new cards at Smelt, and even smash clay pots and boxes to find Clankos and crafting materials.New Game Modes: Quest & InfiniteAnother huge inspiration for me is the Mission Mode from SoulCalibur on the Dreamcast. I remember playing that for hours and hours. Even though it wasn’t super complex, I loved the setup: get a little backstory lore, go on the mission, and deal with various combat effects.Infinite Dungeon Mode: This will just keep going, getting progressively harder the deeper you go.Quest Mode: This is more in line with Mission Mode. You get a story explanation for the mission, and some stages apply Buffs or unique requirements.Escort Missions: You might have to use a hero slot to hold an “Escort Card” that must stay alive.Hobblers: These are special debuffs, like missions where no weapons can be equipped.I’m having a blast playtesting these, which I always take as a good sign! The Hero System & DifficultyYou start with a base deck of randomly generated heroes (random looks, names, and stats) that have a specific ...Read full article on Community Announcements (monsterrobotstudios)
