About this game

Embark on a political space opera saga shaped entirely by your choices.

In Pax Astra, you're free to follow any ideology, adopt any strategy, and chart your own path to power. Manage politics, elections, crises, the economy, foreign relations, and more. Build an interdimensional exploration program, venture beyond the known galaxy, or delve into forbidden science.

Choose your path: Will you lead as a principled democrat, a ruthless dictator, or something even more radical?

Be a democrat, a socialist, a libertarian, a fascist, or a communist. The focus here is total freedom in your political choices.

Your decisions will determine not only the fate of Altara, but the future of the entire galaxy.

Pax Astra is a political RPG focused on freedom of choice, branching narrative, and ideological freedom.

You play as the first elected President of Altara — a once-glorious empire, built on supremacy and conquest, now reduced to ruins after a devastating defeat. The war is over, but its consequences remain: economic collapse, political instability, and a population desperate for direction.

With a nation broken in both spirit and wealth, you must navigate a volatile political landscape, rife with competing factions, hidden agendas, and ideological conflict.

Although Altara begins as a fragile democracy, nothing is guaranteed. Power can be reshaped, systems can be torn down, and if you have the will — and the support — you can push the state toward more extreme forms of government.

Beyond politics, discover a universe where myth and legend collide with strategy.

The politics of liberalism, fascism, and communism are only the opening door. Behind them lies a universe steeped in strange religions, mysterious powers, and threats that stretch far beyond your galaxy.

Pax Astra isn't just anchored in history-inspired politics — its lore runs deep into the stranger corners of sci-fi. Hiveminds. God Machines. Ancient empires. Sorcerers.

Inspired by titles like Suzerain, Stellaris, and The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, Pax Astra delivers a dense, choice-driven experience with meaningful consequences.

Beyond politics, the game features deep strategic systems. Manage your economy, develop industries, trade resources, and fund expeditions into unknown regions beyond the galaxy.

What you can do in Pax Astra:

  • Orchestrate coups and power seizures

  • Deal with threats that come from outside your galaxy

  • Establish a theocracy or completely reform the state

  • Follow democratic, communist, fascist — or entirely unique paths

  • Explore unknown space beyond the galaxy

  • Create your own interdimensional exploration program

  • Build a God Machine to serve your government

  • Colonize distant planets

  • Engage in proxy wars

  • Build industries and manage trade networks

  • Take part in conspiracies, alliances, and political intrigue

  • Shape your leadership style however you want

Every decision matters. Every path is yours to walk. The stars are yours to conquer.

(WIP) First look at the War in Capitolia (proxy wars) and the leaders system!

(This mechanic is still going through active, ongoing development. Before finishing the proxy war system, I will first finish fleshing out the expedition systems! Very important to note that: 1 - Participating in the war is fully optional and 2 - These systems will have an auto-resolve feature, to make it more accessible to players who might feel intimidated by the mechanics.) Hello, everyone! This is my first time posting here on Steam! :) Today, I'm here to give you an introduction to my plans for wars/proxy wars and the role of leaders inside Pax Astra!I always like talking about how one of my biggest ambitions with Pax Astra is to create a living galaxy, full of myth, depth, different events happening and a lot of emergent gameplay combined with the narrative core of the game. At the same time, I believe that wars are a great opportunity to add depth to the universe; they are supposed to be big special timed events that mix the 4x and narrative systems! Leaders work as an expansion of the concept behind expedition leaders: they work as individual characters operating inside the universe. They can go on missions, fight in wars, take part in infiltration operations, etc...Now, the expedition mechanics served as the code foundation for even greater systems. I'm first finishing the expedition systems properly, but then I'm gonna focus on the concept of leaders, as well as investing further into the idea of using these leaders as an ongoing part of the universe. But how exactly do they fit into the design of the game?Well, there are two types of leaders: Ground Leaders and Fleet Leaders. In space warfare, you need to deal with both fleet/spaceship combat AND ground invasions. So, Fleet Leaders are basically admirals, while Ground Leaders work in a similar way to generals/captains.I'm still not ready to share all the details regarding this system, as a lot is being changed and reworked as I playtest my own ideas. I had a lot of free time during the past few days, so I ...
