Content notice: Bloodweight is a dark, text-heavy procedural narrative strategy game set in a grim fantasy world. It includes frequent themes of violence, death, injury, crime, social collapse, and psychological dread, primarily conveyed through written narrative and systemic outcomes rather than explicit visual gore. The game contains mature language and references to vice (including alcohol/tobacco), but does not contain explicit sexual content, nudity, hate/extremist symbolism, or real-money gambling features.

About this game

the weight of blood.

every bloodline begins as a single name pressed into wet ink. you carry it

for as long as it lasts — and it will not last.

each generation deals you ONE HEIR: their genome, their temperament, the

realm's pressures faction by faction, and the chronicle the last hand left

behind. you spend their life. then the page turns to the next.

one hundred generations. one ledger. the Soul Teller writes down everything

you do.

▸ BREED

every heir is a knot of inherited tissue and inherited temperament — body,

mind, word, hand. read them the way the chronicler does: not as numbers, but

as a hand the family is dealt and forced to play.

▸ DECIDE

the witan convenes. events strike without warning. the crucible tests the

blood. you make the call, the ledger logs it, and every choice compounds

down the generations.

▸ READ

turn the page and read your house like a book — the heir illuminated, the

chronicler's account of the age, the running weight of power, wealth, and the

blood's own dream. a saga you don't watch so much as witness.

▸ END

bloodlines fail. when yours does — and it will — the Soul Teller sets down the

whole run in unsparing prose. there is no clean ending it leaves out. you will

read about yourself.

▸ PROC GENESIS

procedural everything: heirs, faces, names, events, factions, eras, mutation

pressure, cultural memory — and the prose itself. no two ledgers read the same.

when one line closes, the page opens for the next.

so — when the Soul Teller finally reads your story back to you... what will

it say?

    Bloodweight Update

The Seven Rooms Every great moment now happens in a painted place. Succession is decided at the reckoning table...the old ruler presiding, scales at hand, your children's cards lying on the wood, rising to meet your cursor. The generation's ledger closes on the archive desk. The crucible weighs your heir on the scales. The Witan's verdict arrives as a sealed writ. And one shrine holds both fates: it mourns your dead heirs, and it is where a hundred-generation line is crowned. Dozens of smaller polish passes ride along: portraits no longer drift in their frames, six-child broods number correctly to VI, the title page writes its menu directly on the great ledger, and long dynasty names, zero-mark lives, and generation-99 saves all render clean. Every heir leaves a record. Now the book looks like one.

    Bloodweight 2.2.2

A refinement update for The Blood and the Hand. 2.2.0 made every generation a short, chaptered reign: the heir declares the course their own nature would take, and you either let that will stand or spend one of two Blood Marks to overrule a life. The system was right. The page it was printed on was not. The chronicle entry had been assembled like a form with each part in its own bordered box under a small-caps heading, the two answers exiled to buttons at the bottom of the screen, and red spent on so many different jobs it meant nothing at all. You could read the page. You couldn't feel it. So the entry has been rewritten as an entry. The matter is prose again. The chapter opens with its own writing at full measure, in the primary hand. No labelled well, no tinted rail, no circled glyph in the corner. The heir's will is testimony. A rule, the ruler named, the course they would take in the display hand, and their reason set beneath it as a spoken gloss. The choice sits on the page, directly beneath the will it answers. Letting the will stand reads wide and gold. Red belongs to the blood. Category rubrics, chapter counts, and record headings are ink now. Red is kept for the three things that are actually blood: the marks you hold, the mark you spend, and the verdict when the bloodline overrules its own ruler. The leaf is sized to its writing, so no page trails off into empty vellum. And the margin's receipt speaks like a ledger rather than a spreadsheet: "SUCCESS — the gamble carried, 55 against 54." Also fixed since 2.2.0: a transition race that could strand Generation Advance on an inert page when an Age Troth, victory, or other ceremony redirected during entry. If the receipt ever fails to build, there's now a player-facing way back out instead of a dead page. Saves from 2.2.x carry forward.

Bloodweight 2.2: The Blood and the Hand

The heir has a will. The bloodline has a longer memory. Since Bloodweight 2.0, we have pulled the game apart, found the struggle at its heart, and rebuilt the entire player-facing journey around it. You are not a ruler moving through a dashboard. You are the bloodline: the old will that survives every hand that carries it. Each heir is now their own person, shaped by temperament, private ambition, family pressure, and the years already written before them. They will choose. You decide when to let their will stand—and when the blood must intervene. A REIGN, NOT A FORM Every generation now has a dramatic order. A union is made. The heir lives through dated Chronicle chapters. The Witan assembles. Children are named. The succession is sealed. The game no longer throws every system at you at once; each part of the reign arrives when it matters and leaves a record behind. Years now give the dynasty an actual history. Decisions, unions, decrees, births, deaths, and successions land at a specific moment in the line, giving both the player and the Soul Teller a chronology worth remembering. THE HEIR'S WILL The heir's intended course is visible before every major decision, along with the personality pressure behind it. Proud rulers behave proudly. Cruel rulers do not suddenly become gentle because a flat die roll said so. Each heir also carries a private Demand of the Blood—something they may pursue even when it cuts against the dynasty's larger dream. You receive only two Blood Marks per life. Let the heir's will stand for free, or spend one to force another available course. A third intervention is impossible. The question is no longer merely "which option is best?" It is "is this the moment the blood takes the hand?" At death, the record judges the whole reign: did this hand serve the blood, bend but hold, or cut against the line? CHOICES NOW LAND The decisions are still the center of Bloodweight, but they no longer disappear the instant you click them. Event categories c...

A polish-and-fixes pass on 2.0: Witness Mode reworked, several long-dormant strategic systems brought back to life, audio tuned, and a long tail of fixes. Witness Mode, reworked Now a toggle you flip before any run on the New Lineage screen and the World Builder instead of a separate title entry. Once a run is witnessed, it stays witnessed. On-screen speed controls (slower · pace · faster) and pause, sized for both desktop and touch. The witnessed heir's portrait now leads their card, and the on-screen overlay was de-cluttered. Systems that now do what they say Era Troths. Several late-game troths (Iron Constitution, The Winnowing, Apotheosis Hunger, the inheritance troths) were declared but inert — they now genuinely shift heir mortality, newborn survival, and inheritance. Founding Oath. The World Builder oath (Long Memory / Claim / Mercy / Secrecy) is no longer flavor — each gives the bloodline a small, lasting edge. Living rivals & nemesis. Rival successions and fallen houses now surface in the chronicle, the nemesis grudge-inheritance beat fires across generations, and older saves are granted a sworn rival on load. Audio Supplied soundtrack pulled back to procedural music for now (album switching wasn't solid). The new "numb" SFX palette is the default — fuller, weightier interface and event sound. Chronicle The Soul Teller now cites your World Builder authorship: the world and house you named, the oath you swore, the founder you built, and the rival houses (and their founding heads) you raised against yourself. Fixes Founder customizer: Reroll Banner / Physical now work every time (not just once). New-game screen layout cleaned up (Witness toggle no longer overlaps). Stat-check results no longer print raw decimals. Fixed a phantom highlight / dead click-spot on the first hub of a witnessed run. Quieted button hover-sound spam; macOS fullscreen crash fixed. Plus a long tail of smaller correctness fixes from a multi-round bug hunt.
