It started in your foot. Now it’s in your head. All that remains is the command: GO UP. Meet strange neighbors. Make bad trades. Every ascent teaches you what you should have done differently.

About this game

It started in your foot. Now it’s in your head.

The only thought left is: GO UP.

The building has thirty floors. Your body has problems - hunger, thirst, exhaustion. The infection doesn’t care. It only wants altitude.

Your body is in shambles... but the foot keeps climbing.

Meet your Neighbors.

The building is not haunted. The people in it are not monsters - and they want things. Junk. Food. Favors. Someone to do something mildly humiliating to their neighbor.

A few of them know things they shouldn't. And maybe what they know has something in common.

You're the only one collecting the pieces.

Learn. Adapt. Climb.

The building is the same every time you climb it. The neighbors are the same. The trades are the same. The vending machine on the ground floor has the same stock.

What changes is what you know.

Every run, you learn something. A shortcut. A better trade. An item you thought was useless until it saved your life. Slowly, the building starts to make sense.

And again and again and again and again and again.

You’ll know what to do next time.

But your foot isn’t waiting.

Original Soundtrack by Mike Klubnika.

MOLDRISE features a full-length original soundtrack, composed by Mike Klubnika, creator of Buckshot Roulette, s.p.l.i.t., and Machine Party.

First-person survival horror. Retro aesthetics. A thirty-floor apartment building with no empty floors and no happy endings.

    Patch 1.0.11

Hey everyone, just a quick patch, adressing a couple of problem that were found by the community. Thank you for the reports! Changelog Improved: The Secret Knocking Code is now much more tolerant and robust against longer pauses. It should be easier inputting the correct code. Fixed: Players sometimes got stuck in the elevator after pausing and unpausing Fixed: Dialog of 24 was not reacting correctly in certain situations Workaround: A secret was not correctly displayed on very old GPUs. I tried to implement a workaround to unblock progression for those players.

    Patch 1.0.7

Hey everyone! I just rolled out version 1.0.7 - it only has a couple small fixes and changes. But one change which was neccessary in preparations for the new languages will have an impact I want to inform you. If you already played the game, you noticed that dialog options you already chose in prior runs are marked with a * icon. The change I had to make in preparations for translating the game to other languages unfortunately will reset this information. So if you play the next time, all dialogs will look like new dialogs. Unfortunately it is a neccessary evil and I hope it won't impact your experience too much. Every other persistent information will still be present (Death counter savegames and "Ideas"). Fixes & Improvements Thanks to some great players in the communityI got a couple of bug reports. Improved: You can now skip the ending cutscene.Bugfix: White fade broke the game when returning to the main menu or restarting the game during it.Bugfix: Meredith letter quest was sometimes bugged outBugfix: Linda was missing dialog options to speak with her about her brother under certain circumstances.

    Patch 1.0.3

Hey everyone! In these patch notes I'll summarize changes from two versions.Control RebindsIt was requested a couple of times and I planned to add it anyway - but didn't find the time to wrap it up before release. You can find it in the settings menu.Game ChangesAll about PizzaThere was one event and achievement in the game that caused some players to feel personally offended. Yes, I'm talking about the Pizza Hawaii event. I thought about it quite a bit... MOLDRISE is a grungy game, full of nasty dialogs. But I don't want players to personally feel attacked. That is why I changed the dialog and the death message quite a bit. Making the whole even feel more integrated into the game world and hopefully not like a message directed towards the player. At the same time, I also reworded the achievement that comes with this event. The Key to AscensionSo far, the Elevator Key was relatively easy to get. This was changed a bit to make aquiring it a bit harder - but also more interesting.Fixes & ImprovementsThanks to some great players in the communityI got a couple of bug reports that I did not catch before release!Fixed multiple typos that were spotted by the community.Bugfix: Vending machine talk sound played double.Bugfix: Vending machine on 20th floor did not correctly handle its inventory.Bugfix: Restarting a run multiple times had a negative performance impact.Bugfix Claimed: Audio started crackling on certain audio devices after a certain time. (I need more confirmation)Bugfix: Roof ending had a bug where you could drop into infinity.Bugfix: Stairs Hallucination had a bug where you could drop into infinity.Bugfix: Fixed incorrect Button Hint in Ideas TutorialImprovement: Reduced BOOM volume on Drinking FountainImprovement: Slightly reduced volume on intro video sequence.Improvement: Slightly increased transparency on seen dialog options.Licenses: Added Kenneys Input Prompts.

Reach the roof before your toe fungus reaches your brain in Moldrise, my favourite horror demo in ages

As I write these words, Julian has just published a feature about Signet City, the new "fungalpunk" RPG from Citizen Sleeper and In Other Waters developer Gareth Damian Martin, in which you are a soulful parasite moving between the minds and bodies of an entire urban population. Doubtless, it is a splendid account of what is very likely a masterpiece of post-anthropocentric poetics, assuming I'm clocking Gareth's current theoretical preoccupations correctly. Unfortunately, I don't have time to read the article because there is a horrible mushroom in my foot that's trying to eat my brain. The infestation literally squelches beneath me, as I haul myself between the floors of an apartment block decked with mouldy pizza and rusty chains. The more it spreads, the more… textured the squelching, and the louder the groans of my avatar as I shamble from door to door on a desperate quest for lotion. Read more
