About this game

YOU ARE THE OPERATOR

NETBREAK isn't a game about a hacker — it hands you the hacker's machine. You work from a fully simulated cyberpunk operating system: a real terminal, an email client, a network map, a file browser, a darkweb browser, a skill tree, and a blue-team SOC dashboard. Every breach starts the same way it does in real life — a blinking cursor and a target that has no idea you're there yet.

A REAL TERMINAL, NOT A QUICK-TIME EVENT

Over 100 working commands — nmap, hydra, ssh, scp, sqlmap, nikto, hashcat, wireshark and many more. Chain reconnaissance into exploitation into exfiltration. Write shell scripts with variables, loops and conditionals to automate your attacks. Tab-complete, pipe, cover your tracks. The terminal does what you'd expect it to do.

AUTHENTIC HACKING

  • Recon → Exploit → Exfiltrate — fingerprint hosts, find open ports, match services to a database of 18 real-world CVEs, breach, and steal the data.
  • Crack credentials — brute-force logins with escalating wordlists, dump config files, follow the breadcrumbs operators leave behind.
  • The Trace system — every action raises your trace. Move clean and stay a ghost, or get sloppy and watch the meter climb until they're at your door. Wipe logs, route through proxies, kill the IDS.
  • OSINT — profile targets through social media, public records, breach dumps and job postings before you touch a single port.

HACK THE HUMAN

The weakest system is always the person using it. Run phishing campaigns against 14 named targets, spoof caller IDs, voice-phish your way past reception, clone badges and tailgate into the building. No firewall patches human nature.

PLAY BOTH SIDES

Flip to blue team and defend. The SOC Dashboard puts you on the other end of the wire — tune intrusion detection, deploy honeypots, correlate SIEM events, isolate compromised hosts and run live forensics against AI-driven attackers.

GO DARK

For the right price — and the right reputation — the darkweb opens up. Deploy rootkits for persistence, build a botnet from the machines you own, run ransomware, craft single-use zero-days. Every dark op has consequences with the factions watching you.

A WORLD THAT REACTS

  • 5 factions with reputation, territory and ripple effects — help one, make an enemy of another.
  • AI sysadmins that notice your intrusions and fight back: changing passwords, patching the hole you came in through, raising the alarm.
  • Rival hackers with names and agendas who help you, sabotage you, or get themselves arrested.
  • Adaptive difficulty that quietly reads how you're doing and keeps you in the zone.

PROGRESS LIKE A PRO

Earn skill points across three trees — Technical, Social Engineering and Defense (24 nodes). Spend your credits at the Shadow Market on tool upgrades, hardware that actually changes how the game plays, wordlists and intel dossiers. Build the operator you want to be.

A STORY WITH REAL CHOICES

A legend called ZERO pulls you out of obscurity and into a conspiracy around a mass-surveillance AI: GHOST PROTOCOL. Over a five-act campaign of 100+ missions, the choices you make — who you betray, what you sell, who you save — route you to one of 5 distinct endings. Burn it all down, sell out, go corporate, join the architects, or vanish.

EASY TO START, DEEP TO MASTER

A calm, pressure-free warmup teaches you the tools one step at a time — no trace, no clock, no jargon wall. The depth is all still there when you're ready for it.

Hotfix: endgame fixes, permissions & scrollable comms

Thanks to everyone posting on the discussions board — this entire patch comes from your reports, plus a full audit of every mission those reports prompted me to run. Keep them coming. Fixed: missions that couldn't be completed SCORCHED EARTH (the "burn it all" ending) could not be finished — it asked you to activate Omega Protocol without telling you to reconnect to the server first. It now says so explicitly. RESCUE ZERO asked you to "scan every host" without naming any, and its failsafe step could not be completed with the command it printed. Both objectives now name exactly what they need. INSIDE JOB and FOLLOW THE MONEY told you to delete a log file that does not exist on those machines, so the objective could never complete. The corporate ending's packaging step printed a command the terminal rejects. "Buy a new identity on the darkweb" — there was no identity to buy. There is now. Voice phishing and several defensive tools refused to run unless you had bought a specific skill, which could dead-end the very missions that teach those tools. Skills now make these tools better instead of locking them. Fixed: New Game+ Starting a second run in the same session inherited files from your previous campaign, which auto-completed the finale and forced you into your previous ending. New campaigns now start with a clean filesystem. Fixed: "Permission denied" as root Once you have compromised a host, you now actually have root on it. Deleting logs (rm /var/log/auth.log), kill and chmod all work over SSH instead of refusing you — the tutorial told you to do something the game would not let you do. Covering your tracks now works as taught, and a failed delete no longer silently ticks the objective off. Fixed: confusing early missions PORT KNOCK no longer repeats THE AWAKENING — it now maps the gateway router instead of rescanning the same machine. SKELETON KEY targets a fresh machine. Its "SSH in" objective used to complete the moment the mission started, because you already...
