About this game

Dig! Defend! Develop!

The choices you make in this RTS game are critical.

Build utilities, worker amenities, living quarters, and production factories to keep your economy flowing. Then, prepare for the onslaught of enemies by building towers, hiring and training Battle Engineers, and managing your energy and ammo reserves. But, not all missions are the same!

There are a variety of mission types!

  • Protect the galaxy from a mysterious virus found on an asteroid, and stop the spread!

  • Defeat bandits of aliens destroying local settlements!

  • Complete special research projects by gathering samples and completing tasks!

  • Run a profitable mining site!

  • Refuel rundown ships!

  • Discover and retrieve artifacts deep underground!

  • Repopulate a planet destroyed by volcanos!

The Developer

You might recognise me as Borrego6165 - my old account related to the game studio LVGameDev. I helped them on games such as SimAirport and SimCasino! This is a solo project unrelated to that studio. I have lots of experience with tycoon/simulation games, and wanted to add a survival twist!

Demo Post-Mortem & The Future of The Great Beyond

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone involved with the early prototypes and the demo for giving feedback. It has been extremely helpful and the game has come a long way since the first time I sent it out to the first tester back in April. After taking a break from game development for the last few years, it has been wonderful to be back on Steam again pushing builds and writing update blogs!Demo Post-MortemThe demo was a mixed bag. Overall, people seemed to enjoy the game! Once players got the hang of the digging and construction mechanics, they started to have fun. There was also some coverage on YouTube, which was great to see. However, the main criticisms were:UI Confusion. I definitely improved this a lot, but there's still more work to do here.Earlier versions of the demo lacked freedom and the tutorial was frustrating to play. The newest version cut the tutorial almost completely, and certain game mechanics were not explained well enough.Various bug reports.A number of people assumed that the thumbnail image was AI generated. I hired an artist to create this, but I can see how with the main image looking so different to the game's graphics that people may assume it was generated with AI.The game's visuals not matching the tone of the gameplay. The last point is a huge one. To move away from cartoony visuals to a more serious aesthetic would be an expensive and timely move. It would require a huge amount of work from an artist or team of artists, require a lot of investment of money, and would require reworking the game's lighting and changing all of the assets. The Future of The Great BeyondI have decided to delay the game's launch by at least one year, in order to overhaul the visuals and to have time to raise funds for it.I hired an artist to create a "pilot" of some of the game's new visuals. I have attached screenshots at the bottom of this post! There's already very good progress on it.His name is Janiru Hettiarachchi and he's from Dream Canvas! What is Hap...

    Demo 1.1

Thankyou to everyone who has tried the game so far and left feedback! As always, I'll continue to listen to it and I'm doing my best to improve the game.AdjustmentsUser Interface panels are more opaque, making things easier to see and read.I've tweaked the level spawning system to automatically add more buildable areas and resources if the amount does not match the expected amount for that level. The game auto-pauses when the tutorial is on.The first wave of enemies in the first level now starts at day 8 instead of 6.The worker AI has been improved, so that they find solo jobs first and then only help others if they don't have anything to do. The official order is:High Priority Digging Solo JobRooms Solo JobHigh Priority Digging Job MultipleNormal Digging Solo JobRooms Multiple JobNormal Digging Multiple JobBugsFix the build tool selected object showing as dark.Fix time controls and warning text overlapping.

    DEMO 1 LAUNCH!

Welcome, Commander!I can now confirm that this is going to be the final patch of the game before the demo launches later today! I have been able to fix many issues over the past few weeks, thanks to all of my beta testers and early reviewers on YouTube! (Check out Kiwi Interactive Arcade's livestream and The Geek Cupboard's playthrough here!)The demo currently features 2 campaign levels and a lot of potential research options! Please use the forums to add ideas you would like to see in the full game, such as more rooms, worker types, tower types, attack abilities, research upgrades, and scenario ideas!Fixes and AdjustmentsFix the population requirement on level 1 accidentally being set to 20 instead of 14! It should be a lot more manageable now.Increase the amount of gold and oil on level 1, and fix an issue where some levels were created with much less building space and resources than normal.Replace the black rock appearance of oil with a new red oil barrel model! This should be much easier to distinguish from other resources.Battle Engineers can collect ammo without an ammo factory. The oxygen limit meter in the status bar is much clearer now.Fix base repair cost not updating correctly.Allow deleting towers.
