About this game

Chessillo fuses chess with an army-building roguelike.

Your pieces move like they do in chess, but their abilities don't play by the rules: a pawn can come back from the dead, a king can inherit another piece's movement, and a rook can cross the board through a portal.
Recruit pieces, equip them with abilities from different factions, and topple three enemy kings.

Three ways to win

Not every battle is won the same way.
Regicide
Capture the enemy king before he reaches yours.
Elimination
Leave no enemy piece standing.
Survival
Hold out for as many turns as it takes while the board fills with threats.

The same army can feel unstoppable in one battle and clumsy in the next. The trick is reading what the objective demands before you start sacrificing pieces.

Three playable princes

Necromancer Prince — Death
"His pieces do not rest in peace."
His fallen pieces can return as specters beside your King.
With Ritual, you sacrifice an adjacent ally and your King absorbs its movement.

Withered Prince — Time
"Time consumes everything, himself included."
Once per act, he can rewind a full turn.
With Final Hour, when one of his pieces falls, the entire enemy army is caught in time.

Wandering Prince — Space
"The board bends to his will."
He starts with extra inventory space and turns the board into a web of shortcuts.
With Portal, you open two linked gateways and move pieces from one to the other.

Between battles

After every battle, you improve your army.

Recruit new pieces, tweak the ones you already have, and make your calls in the shop. Some pieces are just sacrificial fodder. Others end up winning you a battle thanks to an ability that looked minor at first.

Three acts, three kings

Each run is split into 3 acts.
At the end of each one, an enemy king awaits, with his own abilities and an event exclusive to that act. He's not just a boss with more health: he's a whole new way of pressuring the board.
Defeat all three kings, or leave your army buried along the way.

The Daily Challenge Arrives — Plus a Total VFX Overhaul

⚔️ THE DAILY CHALLENGE HAS ARRIVED Every player. One board. One shot at glory — every single day. A brand-new way to play Chessillo is here. Each day the world faces the same shared seed: the same board, the same twisted rules, the same climb. No excuses, no second builds — just you, the gauntlet, and the leaderboard. One shared seed daily — every player climbs the exact same board and modifiers. Best-of-the-day scoring — retry all you like; only your strongest run counts. No saves, no reloads — one continuous climb, start to finish. Commit to every move. Automatic global leaderboard — your best run uploads on its own. Rise through the ranks. Rotating daily modifiers — a shifting set of rule-bending twists that reshape how the game is played, fresh every day. Mode selector — jump straight into the day's challenge from a dedicated menu. Think you can master today's board better than everyone else? Prove it. 🎨 A SWEEPING VISUAL OVERHAUL The battlefield has never looked this good. We've torn down and rebuilt the visual effects of many abilities across multiple factions — new effects, new animations, new impact. Every strike lands with more weight, and every ability reads more clearly in the heat of the fight. Rebuilt effects — punchier, more dramatic, more satisfying. Sharper readability — know exactly what's happening at a glance. More impact — abilities that finally feel as powerful as they play. Old favorites, made new. You'll feel the difference the moment you cast. … And to those who reach the end with all sixteen still standing — unbroken, unbowed — know that the dark has been counting too. The board is set. Today's climb is waiting. Update now and take your shot. ♟️

    Balance update

Update ⚖️ Balance — Morale Beginner (Easy) now starts with 100 morale instead of 50 — double the safety net, giving new players far more room to learn from their mistakes. Morale warning feedback (the color shift and pulse on the bar, plus the low-morale cues on the map and the defeat screen) now scales with your maximum, so it reads correctly whether your cap is 50 or 100. 🎨 UI — Unified Buttons All main action buttons now share one painted design across the whole game — Start Battle, Confirm, Invoke, Forge, Duplicate and Skip — for a consistent, premium look. Button text is far more legible: warm cream lettering with a crisp dark outline that makes it pop on any background, replacing the old thin gold text that washed out against the frame.
