About this game

Sepapu is a set-packing puzzle game set in a quiet world of sand, stones, light, and strange patterns.

Out of the shifting sands appear solid stones and patterns, arranged into 64 authored puzzles.

The rules are not explicitly stated and must be inferred from interaction and observation. Understand the structure, then guide the stones into place neatly.

Sepapu is designed as a short and focused experience, featuring a fully animated cursor, interactible backgrounds and soothing ambience and sounds.

“Let the bouncing light flow free among the rocks, and then at last, the egg will split. 0 to 8.”

    Thank you!

The first major milestone I set for myself, just hit! And that was to get 10 reviews so that sepapu gets a score! As it turns out, they are all saying nice (and constructive) things! After sepapu launched, it was like a burden of my shoulders. This project had been on my mind for a significant time, and I am overjoyed that is is available to players and that people I have never met have played it to conclusion and had a good time! Thank you! The next (and final) plan for sepapu, is to add workshop support, and address some issues that have come to my attention, mainly regarding framerate. Both july and august I decided to take a break from the project though, simply because I needed to step back a bit! Have some rest, start looking at the next project, be with friends, day job, etc. But september will be a sepapu month, and the goal as stated will be to release an update that includes workshop support and some fixes/features. In list format, these things are planned:Steam Workshop Support for creating and sharing custom puzzlesFix animation logic to work more consistently across different frame ratesFix for touchscreen not behaving correctlyA way to exit the game without using alt-f4 (I guess only I like to close things this way haha..)Steam Controller SupportI hope I will be able to release this update at the end of september, if all goes well. But life is always uncertain!Somewhat surprisingly, there have been no game breaking bugs or crashes reported, that I am aware of at least, but granted, I also don't have automatic crash reporting in my engine, so maybe I will get that with Steam support also. And lastly, once this update is out, I am gonna fully consider this game done. That means I will move on to the next project for real! If you are interested in keeping up with that, I hang out in this Discord server: https://discord.gg/ESqhuMPyCq Thank you again, so much. And I hope that this game will continue to reach new people over time. And I am hopeful for the fu...

    sepapu is here!

About 4 years ago, I made a little prototype of a puzzle, based on set packing problems like the 8 Queen Puzzle. Over time, the tech I used to build it evolved. It changed from SDL2 to SDL3, and I learned more about game programming and design from working professionally on games. This game, sepapu, is a 4 year, slow cooking side project, that at the end, became my main focus. I put a lot of heart and thought into how things fit together, and I studied puzzle design from some people I really admire. While I am nowhere near as skilled as those people, I think I was able to execute some good ideas, and I think this game has some novel things in it that makes it a worth your time! Since I spent so much time and thought on this game, there are a lot of layers and symbolism, from things I discovered while making the game. These things are not really meant as some sort of "canon", but rather, the game, interaction and art is like a sandbox for connecting ideas that relate to each other via association. In this sense, the game is open ended and invites you to meditate about what this game (or any game) really is!I am feeling glad and grateful and proud for having built something, and completed it. My one wish, is that this game reaches someone, and brings them joy and inspiration. I have some plans for post launch, but I am not sure of the timeline yet. For now, this game is a complete artifact, and stands on its own as, well, an "art piece". Even though saying that sounds a bit pretentious. If you end up playing this game, I really hope you will enjoy it, and if you do, please leave a review as well, since I am just a lone lil dev, and any bit of visiblity and attention really means a lot to me! Thank you for time and attention, and I hope your life will be a good one! -Zeozen

    The board is laid..

sepapu is a small game, but it represents something bigger. It is the first proper title I release commercially, "made by hand" in a custom engine. While sepapu may be simple in nature, its cosmology is great. So vast in fact, that I was not able to figure it all out within sepapu. That is why this game is significant. It is a seed, for you and for me. My hope is that this game will reach those who are curious, pattern seeking, and a bit stubborn! And that it has enough value to fuel this journey of mine. If you want to stay more up to date with that, there is a Discord .As I enter the final stretch of development, a moment of reflection.zeozen
