About this game
What better way to dodge double maths?
After sneaking into a closed exhibition to see a supposedly cursed artwork, Leah finds herself trapped inside a dark and otherworldly version of The New Art Gallery Walsall. The visitors are gone, the lights won’t work, and outside the windows is nothing but endless darkness.
Armed with only a flashlight and her wits, Leah must explore the building, collect items, follow clues, and solve increasingly inventive puzzles to uncover the mystery behind the cursed artwork and the artist responsible. But she’s not alone - something is stalking the galleries: a hostile presence made of living paint. There’s no fighting it; Leah will need to hide, keep her nerve, and make use of a strange new ability if she’s going to make it out of this nightmare in one piece.
Inspired by classic survival horror and featuring a distinct, graphic-novel 3D aesthetic, Lost in Art is a narrative psychological puzzle adventure set inside a real-world location turned surreal.
Art is meant to be observed — but can you be sure it isn’t looking back?

Demo Update v.015b
It's that time again! Not even this deeply unpleasant and unending heatwave can prevent me from bringing you 'the goods'.This minor update adds a bit more in-game lore, explaining exactly why Leah is at the Gallery in the first place, as well as adding some documents that fill in a few narrative blanks - and might also be part of a mid-to-late game puzzle...? I guess we'll see!The display case outside the Art Library now contains a small exhibition of artwork. Two documents have been added - if you were wondering what that wooden wheel in the lunch room was about, well, now you can find out. Kinda.Speaking of documents, a slight change has been made to the light source used when inspecting them to make it a bit more dynamic, as well as updating the light cookie used.Slight improvements and tweaks to in-game text.Slightly tweaked the camera when going up and down the staircase in the central lobby, to eliminate some jank. The entire camera system will be replaced at a later date once Act 1 is 'finished', but until then this should make things a bit more palatable.Changed how the camera works around the display cabinet in the Community Gallery, in preparation for some upcoming additions to the room's contents.Next update should have a bit more meat on the bones - see you then!Read full article on Community Announcements (Stone Hippo)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Update v.015
Hello hello! Another week, another demo update. Something a bit different this time - you might have noticed that the supposed Art Library didn't have much in the way of books. But now, much like the real world counterpart, it is absolutely BRIMMING with them. As well as a whole bunch of interactions which reveal more about Leah herself, the Gallery she finds herself in and the surrounding area (which again - is a real place you can visit!). Also, hopefully the last change to the Drawing Minigame for a while - it should now be fully drawing tablet and touch-screen compatible.Added a wealth of props to the Art Library, matching it much more closely with the real-world counterpart. In addition, the Library now has a complete set of interactions, and Leah will be able to examine and comment on almost everything in the room. Further props and interactions will be added to the remaining rooms in the next few updates.Something unusual appears in the Library after Leah retrieves her backpack...Similarly, the Activity Room now has most of the examine interactions implemented, barring some based around a yet-to-be-added feature.Something strange can appear in the upper Activity Room by going into and leaving a certain other room.Changed the Drawing Minigame to allow the use of drawing tablets and other devices, such as the Steam Deck's touchscreen.Fixed a Steam Deck-specific bug where the player would be unable to move the Pause screen selection unless they used a trackpad to move the cursor. As always, please let us know via the in-game bug report if I've accidentally broken something (again).See you next update!Read full article on Community Announcements (Stone Hippo)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Update v.014b
Just a couple of small updates to the Drawing Minigame, as well as the merciless and total destruction of a few bugs that crept in with the last update. To prevent players from mistakenly believing they needed to trace the printed circle as part of the Drawing Minigame: rather than the inclusion of a traced circle transforming every rewarded item into a Freehand Drawing, Leah will now point out that the circle doesn't need to be drawn as it is already printed on the page, and will then trigger a restart. While the reintroduction of a fail state is a little unfortunate, the alternative would be to allow the traced circle as part of the grading process - which might lead players to think tracing the circle is required every time. Hopefully this makes things a bit clearer! Apologies to all players who were butting their head against a wall because of this.Reduced the angle variation at which the drawing paper could spawn during the Drawing Minigame, as more extreme angles could make drawing without Drawing Assist unnecessarily difficult.Fixed a bug where hovering over the Puzzle Difficulty options with the mouse didn't update the description at the bottom of the screen.Fixed a bug where allowing the Drawing Minigame reward text to timeout would cause it to remain onscreen until the player triggered another interaction.Read full article on Community Announcements (Stone Hippo)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Update v.014
Another update, so soon?! Yes indeedy - this update adds selectable difficulties when beginning the demo.Upon selecting "Begin Demo", you are now taken to a Puzzle Difficulty select menu. Different difficulties feature different documents, riddles, hints and solutions to puzzles! The existing "default" difficulty is now labelled as "Journeyman" difficulty."Apprentice" difficulty has been added, which offers remixed versions of the main puzzles which are much easier to solve. Also added support for a hard, "Master" difficulty, though this is considered a game completion unlock as it is BRUTALLY and unapologetically difficult, and generally shouldn't be chosen for a first playthrough. Also I haven't actually come up with the "Master" variants of the puzzles yet. So there's that.Fixed a bug where selecting "Visit the Gallery" on the title screen would open two browser windows if selected via keyboard or gamepad buttons instead of one. If you come across any bugs or still feel the remixed puzzles are too difficult, or the hints too unhelpful, please let us know via the in-game feedback and I'll have a tinker. And with that, it's time for the good part - the next update will see the addition of new content! If there's anything in particular you'd like us to prioritise - new areas, spooky events or something else entirely - let us know!Read full article on Community Announcements (Stone Hippo)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Update v.013
Drawing ReworkThe drawing rework is finally here! From this update, anything drawn from the pages of the prompt book will be recognised as a viable drawing target. The drawing system has been substantially reworked to be less frustrating for players. There is now no fail state and you will always be awarded a drawing item.Previously, the drawing minigame only checked your drawings against the anticipated solution for the "active puzzle". This meant that if a player drew a solution for a later puzzle ahead of time, or drew something they incorrectly believed was the solution to the current puzzle, it would be considered a "failed attempt" and rejected regardless of how well it had been drawn, and Leah would automatically discard it. This is no longer the case and anything you draw from the prompt book will be awarded regardless of current progress. In addition, as long as you have access to the Activity Room you can now draw whenever you like instead of only when required to solve a puzzle. The recognition thresholds have also been loosened slightly, so your drawings don't need to be quite so precise to be accepted. If your drawing doesn't reasonably match any "known" results, you'll be awarded a "Freehand Drawing" item of your design. Want to draw a picture of your dog to carry around with you for moral support? Now you can!On top of this, there are now secret drawings which can be posted in a certain receptacle in the Activity Room to trigger Game Modifiers. Some are only cosmetic changes, such as changing Leah's appearance or the environment, and some have wider gameplay implications at the cost of disabling achievements. There's currently one cosmetic and one gameplay modifier available in the demo, with more being added as the game updates. You'll know you've created a secret drawing because their awarded items have unique names instead of the usual "Freehand drawing" title. In the full game, triggering a modifier will permanently unlock it for easy access on a spec...Read full article on Community Announcements (Stone Hippo)
