About this game
Most chess apps teach you the basics and leave you hanging. Most chess games are fun but won't make you better. Chess Kingdom does both. Whether you've never touched a chess board or you're looking for your next real challenge, this is where you grow.
START ANYWHERE. KEEP IMPROVING.
Six structured training campaigns take you from absolute beginner to advanced player, each focused on a specific part of the game. Piece movement. Tactics. Openings. Middlegame strategy. Endgames. Deep calculation. Hand-crafted lessons and puzzles, carefully ordered so every concept builds on the last. No guessing what to study next. No jumping in the deep end. Just clear, satisfying progress with star ratings, XP, and titles to show for it.
CLIMB THE LEAGUE
League Mode is a football-style division system with 6 tiers, from Wooden Shield to Diamond Crown. Play a full season against the AI opponents in your division. Finish 1st to promote. Finish last and face relegation. Earn trophies, collect stars, and climb your way to the top. Win Division 1 and you unlock a 2-game showdown against Phantom, the hidden League Champion. Can you claim the crown?
THEN COMES THE REAL TEST
Training and League are just the beginning. Chess Kingdom gives you every reason to keep playing.
40 AI opponents, each with a distinct personality, playstyle, and country. From Daisy the friendly beginner to Titan the ruthless master, and two secret opponents to unlock.
Tournaments. Single Elimination, Round Robin, Swiss. Climb a bracket. Prove your ranking.
Elimination Mode. Win or go home. One loss ends your run. How far can you get?
Async Online Multiplayer. Challenge friends via Steam and make your move whenever you're ready. No need to be online at the same time.
Daily Puzzles and Puzzle Rush. Stay sharp every day.
Play Kung Fu Chess: a real-time mode where both players move at the same time with no turns, or go Extreme and earn buffs, unlock power tiers, and unleash double moves by playing aggressively.
Atomic Chess: a tactical new variant where every capture detonates a 3×3 explosion, kings can't capture, and blowing up the enemy king wins the game instantly.
Game Analysis. See exactly where you won or lost, move by move.
MAKE IT YOURS
Choose your country from more then 40 nations, each with a unique piece set inspired by that country's culture and art. Indian Mughal pieces. Japanese Shogi-influenced designs. Dutch Delft-style boards. Your flag in your profile. Your style on the board. Unlock more as you level up through 100 player levels: piece sets, board themes, backgrounds, and titles earned through real progress.
BUILT TO GROW WITH YOU
Chess Kingdom is built by a solo developer using AI-assisted development, which means faster updates, more content, and the ability to act quickly on what the community asks for. New country skins, training content, and features are added regularly. Your feedback directly shapes what comes next.
ONE GAME. EVERY LEVEL.
Chess Kingdom grows with you. The beginner finishing their first lesson and the player grinding League Mode for the Diamond Crown are playing the same game, just a different chapter of it. The board is set. How far will you go?

A pile of fixes, new countries and A NEW GAME!
Two things today. A new game, and a pile of Chess Kingdom improvements that came almost entirely from you.Casino Legends is out nowMy new game just launched!Casino Legends is a premium, offline casino game where you build one bankroll across poker, blackjack, roulette, baccarat and slots. You read your rivals, work your way through connected venues, and climb from nobody to Casino Legend. No real money gambling. No microtransactions. No online requirement. Just a full single player game for $4.99.And here's the good part: \if you own Chess Kingdom, you get a discount on it through the bundles.\ Steam knocks off what you already own, so you only pay for the rest. And no, Chess Kingdom support isn't stoppingI know how this normally goes. Dev a new game, first game quietly gets abandoned. Not happening here. Here's the proof: everything that's landed since the last patch notes on August 3.Four new country setsDenmark, Norway, Finland and Switzerland join the National Pride line. Built the same way as Sweden: actual landmarks carved into the pieces, not a flag slapped onto a generic pawn.Denmark: Rundetaarn, Roskilde, Kronborg, a Viking helm, a dragon prow, a shieldNorway: a stave church, Nidaros, a fortress, Lindesnes, the fjord horse, a rune stoneFinland: the Sibelius monument, Helsinki Cathedral, Olavinlinna, birch and cupola, a reindeer, a birch logSwitzerland: the Matterhorn, the Zytglogge, Chillon, a Guard helm, an ibex, a cowbellThey're in the Collection, under the COUNTRIES tab.FixesYour chess set could secretly turn back into StauntonReported here, and a good catch. If your profile had a country picked that has a flag but no piece art, the game went looking for pieces that don't exist. Every missing image quietly fell back to Staunton, so the Collection kept telling you Marble was equipped while the board showed you something completely different. Now the game checks your saved country against the actual list, repairs it if it's wrong, and falls back to the chess ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Pflanz)Patch NotesOfficial
Chess Kingdom update August 2026 (and new game announcement)
As always I'm a bit late, but here is everything that got changed since the last patch and my new game announcement! PerformanceThe stutter while you move pieces is gone. Two heavy jobs were running on the same thread that draws the board: the opening book was being rebuilt and copied twice per move pair, and every animation and move list update forced a full page layout. Across a typical match that added up to more than a second of freezing. On the same test match afterwards: long tasks went from 5 (1154ms total, worst 335ms) to zero, the worst frame from 341.8ms to 41.6ms, hitches over 100ms from 5 to zero, and average FPS from 90.4 to 115.0.The main menu no longer crawls after you finish a game. Background position analysis kept grinding away after the game had ended, so the post game screen and the main menu could fall to roughly 10 FPS, and sometimes 3 or 4, until you restarted.Faster launch on Steam Deck and SteamOS. Optional data loading was competing with startup on the Deck's slower CPU, and launch showed a white page for several seconds before the loading screen appeared. The download is smaller. A native library was shipping binaries for twelve platform and architecture combinations when only one of them is ever used. That is pruned, and 351 MB of music and piece art moved out of the compressed archive so a cold start no longer has to open it. Saves, profiles and cloudYour profile can no longer reset itself or lose a session's progress. Three separate hazards were fixed: a late startup refresh could overwrite the active profile with defaults, a queued cloud write could save one profile under another slot's name, and a cloud copy with a newer timestamp could beat a copy that objectively contained more progress. A save that strictly dominates the other now wins, even if the regressed copy is newer."Sync Now" no longer throws a Cloud Save error at PC players. That button belongs to the optional phone link, but it was showing for everyone and erroring when cli...Read full article on Community Announcements (Pflanz)AnnouncementsOfficial
More Ways to Play While Ignoring a Meeting: Android, Cross-Save and Mini Mode!
Hey everyone, Chess Kingdom is now available on Android! You can now take the game with you, play a few moves away from your PC, and continue your progress when you get back. Android versionThe Android version is a paid download. I want to be honest about that: Chess Kingdom is still a small solo-developed game, and with around 1,000 units sold so far, I cannot realistically give away a full second platform version for free. The mobile version helps support continued development of the game, and I really appreciate everyone who understands that. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chesskingdoms.app What is not yet available in the Android version is the new and improved AI Chat functionalities, that might be to heavy for mobile and the Online matches. Due to server costs that is simply not possible at the moment.Cross-SaveThe Android version supports Save Sync, so you can link your PC save and continue your Chess Kingdom progress on mobile. Start on Steam, continue on Android, then come back to PC when you want the bigger screen again. That said though, if there are any issues with the Android version please let me know! Mini Mode on PCThere is now a Mini Mode button automatically available in every match on PC. Press it and Chess Kingdom shrinks the current game down to a small always-on-top board window, so you can keep playing on the side while doing other things. Perfect for when you are technically in a meeting and absolutely, definitely paying attention. What’s included Chess Kingdom is now available on AndroidPC and Android saves can be linked with Save SyncContinue your progress across both platformsMini Mode button is available automatically in every PC matchMini Mode keeps your current match open as a small board-only window Thanks again for playing Chess Kingdom. Every purchase, review, bug report, and message helps a lot. See you on the board.Read full article on Community Announcements (Pflanz)Patch NotesOfficial
Update shaped by refund reasons
This update improves UI scaling and windowed mode support, especially on smaller resolutions. Menus and game screens have been adjusted so important buttons and information stay reachable instead of being cut off. This patch was made because of player feedback and refund reasons mentioning that the interface could not scale properly or was not fully visible. Even though I would prefer everyone to give the feedback before refund :D It's was still genuinely valuable and helped make Chess Kingdom better. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to report what is not working.Read full article on Community Announcements (Pflanz)AnnouncementsOfficial
A Rival, A Season, and an Opponent Who Talks back!
Hey everyone 👋It's still just me back here, so updates tend to come in waves. I go quiet, head down for a while, then surface with a pile of things I built straight from your feedback. This is one of those, and it turned into a big one. Thank you for every bug report and every "wouldn't it be cool if" in the meantime. It genuinely all lands on my desk. Here's what's new, and why I built it.💬 You can actually talk to your opponents now I'd given the bots real personality in how they play, but you still couldn't actually talk to any of them. So now you can. In offline matches you can chat with your opponent and they answer in character: they know they're a Chess Kingdom regular, they've got their own backstory and taste, they react to how the game is going, and they remember what you said earlier. Over 50 of them, each their own person. The part I care about most: it runs entirely on your own machine. Nothing you type ever leaves your PC, there's no account and no server. It's a bit heavy on VRAM but It's completely optional and off by default. Flip it on in Settings and it grabs a one-time download the first time. It's a little surreal when a bot you just beat starts grumbling about it.🏆 The League is a real season now The League used to be a ladder you climbed and not much else. A season should feel like a journey. So each one now opens with a proper kickoff: you choose the length, you get a pre-season forecast ("predicted to finish 4th of 6"), and a Brief with a few real objectives to chase. Every fixture comes with a build-up showing the actual stakes, your head-to-head, and who's in form. You get a rival each season (a real one, pulled from your own history, not invented for you), a tense run-in over the final games, and an Awards Night when it's done. There's also a Kingdom Cup, a knockout drawn across every division so a minnow can land a giant. And a Legacy screen that tracks your whole career: a trophy cabinet, your records, and a Hall of Champions. Every comp...Read full article on Community Announcements (Pflanz)
