About this game

Moonlit Dreams is a transdimensional block-pushing puzzle game, in your dreams.

Gameplay

  • Push blocks, open doors, traverse mazes, and then do it again across and between three layers of psyche.

  • Explore an odd dreamscape that's strangely familiar yet mysterious.

  • Meet many similarly odd characters who are kind of you in a way, or I guess they're really different facets of yourself, or maybe it's just random neurons flashing inside your brain, who can say?

Features

  • A good amount of levels, times three, with lovingly-crafted puzzles and narrative moments all throughout.

  • Several different border and palette options for you to mix and match as you please.

  • A fun, not terribly short, not terribly long narrative puzzle gaming experience, all in a little four-colour pixel art package just for you.

  • Full controller support, in addition to regular-degular keyboard controls.

Story

After falling asleep, you awake in a world of your own psyche. Guided by a mysterious capybara-esque figure, you must delve deeper and deeper into your own dreams, solving puzzles and meeting weird characters who get increasingly weirder, to uncover the key to save the world inside your mind… but at what cost?

Adding a small town to the game

Hello! I'm just popping by real quick to give you all an update on how development is going.I've recently been working on a way to solve something which, potentially, could've turned into an issue. Let's say you're playing through the game, and suddenly you reach a puzzle you just can't beat no matter how hard you try. And if that happens... what, the game's suddenly over, since you can't go on to the next level? That kinda sucks, right? At the same time, if there was a way to just skip levels, that would solve it, but then it might create an incentive to skip any level that's mildly challenging, and you might miss some levels that act as tutorials for later parts of the game. So, how do we make it so that the game is still challenging, but doesn't put up unintentional walls to progress? You and I are probably thinking the same thing as me: add a city, a commune and a small town guarding a mysterious door embedded on a cliff face!I talk a bit more about it on my YouTube channel! I've just made a devlog going over the idea, the process of getting it all ready, and how the progress on it currently is looking. Please check it out if you're interested! That's all for now! If you have any comments, please don't hesitate to leave them here, @ me on Bluesky, or send me an email! Thank you! - Santum

    Demo: Housekeeping update

Hello, everyone! I've updated the Moonlit Dreams demo. Mostly, this brings it to parity with the full version (which I'm still working hard at!), and solidifies some things which, at the time of making the demo, were still up in the air.Changes:Added a new option to the controller settings. You can now adjust the joystick's deadzone, which should be useful for cases where movement feels unresponsive. Some internal changes to how save files are handled to accommodate future plans. This MIGHT have broken your save file, in which case I apologise. I promise there won't be any breaking changes in the future.Added a new visual effect when swapping dimensions (affected by the "reduce visual effects intensity" option). This only applies when you're the one doing it (i.e. not when you step on a teleporter), at least for now. So in the demo, you can only see it in the final room...Added a new button sprite for when it functions as a toggle, rather than the kind which needs to be held down, so they can be distinguished better. You can now start a new game, even if you already have save files available.Fixed a whole bunch of bugs here and there. I've lost count to be honest :)August 3rd-5th updates:Everything you've read so far was written on July 26th! I've since gone back and fixed a few more things:When changing resolutions in the options menu, if the window is maximised, it will now return to being... not maximised. Generally speaking, the game is now much more aware of what's going on with the resolution and window size. This should prevent weird visual glitches where the options menu appeared superimposed over the previous frame, or appeared to flicker.I am aware of an issue with the game window not centring correctly on first launch. Currently investigating!Attempted to fix a bug where, sometimes, level loading would fail to clear the previous scene or try to load twice, causing bizarre overlaps, the main menu appearing in front of the game and below the pause menu, all ki...

Moonlit Dreams is on the Steam Next Fest!

Hello again, everyone! I just have some quick news for now.The demo isn't going away just yet!The Cerebral Puzzle Showcase was an absolute joy. I'm extremely glad I got to show youse a little piece of this game I've been working on, and I'm here to let y'all know I'm doing it again!I didn't realise these were so close together, but since they are, the Moonlit Dreams demo will be available during the June Steam Next Fest! (It's also available right now, in the time between them, because why not?)The demo contents will be the same as they were during the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase: it contains, broadly speaking, the first quarter of the game, enough to get you immersed in this little world while getting a little morsel-sized bite of the main conceit of the game.Progress updateI continue working on Moonlit Dreams whenever I find the free time to do so. I couldn't be more chuffed with how things are going! Progress is slightly slower than I expected due to IRL circumstances, but things are advancing at a steady pace.I've gotten some friends to play through an early build, and have received some extremely useful feedback (some of which percolated down to the demo!) which is really helping me to make this game the best I can make it. I'm really pouring all my love and care into this project, and I see the vision for it so clearly. I can't wait for you all to see more of it.If you have any comments, please don't hesitate to leave them here, @ me on Bluesky, or send me an email! Thank you! - Santum

Moonlit Dreams will have a demo at the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase!

Hello, hello, hello, everybody! This is the first Steam post I'm making for Moonlit Dreams, and what wonderful news do I have to start things off.A demo will be available soon!I am overjoyed to announce that Moonlit Dreams will have a demo available at the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase event, hosted by Draknek & Friends! This event has been running since 2022, right here on Steam, hosting discounts for games like Baba is You and Patrick's Parabox, as well as demos for games like A Little to the Left. Needless to say, it is a massive honour to have Moonlit Dreams among these and many, MANY other fantastic puzzle games. From May 28th at 10AM PT to June 4th at 10AM PT (that's two weeks from when I'm posting this), you'll be able to play a demo for Moonlit Dreams. In terms of content, I would say it covers the first quarter of the game, just enough to dip your toes in, enjoy a bit of puzzle gaming, get to know one very special person, and so on and so forth. This is my first time participating in one of these events! Hope you'll enjoy the demo once it's available!Progress updateI've been working on Moonlit Dreams for about three months at this point. Whenever I find the time, I even make a little devlog to talk about how it's been going! Due to my studies, and just generally life stuff, I only have some small pockets of free time to work on this, but lemme tell ya: I exploit those pockets of time to their full extent lolAs of right now, Moonlit Dreams has a complete gameplay loop, every major gameplay system working, pretty-much-final art, even small things I hadn't considered when I started working on it, like full controller support with glyph options or the ability to zoom in by exactly 1.5x times. That said, there's still so much polish to be done, and a few things are still subject to change. The demo that will be launching, again, on May 28th as part of the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase, has a bit of a double purpose! I want you to have fun with it, play around, see a bit of t...
