About this game

Return to a small rural town you once called home:

It’s 2007. You’re Rico, a laid-off artist struggling to find new opportunities in the city, and you decide to return to your hometown to work at the only place offering you a job: the local Lost and Found office.

A lot has changed since the last time you were in your hometown, Luisiana. Many friends moved abroad to seek better opportunities, businesses are closing, and the hangout spots you used to love are now run down. Explore what’s left of your hometown and reconnect with the folks you left behind.

Explore, find an owner of a lost belonging, return item, repeat:

A simple job on the surface, but not everyone would tell you the truth. Some would claim items that are not theirs. Gather and find whatever you can to find out who’s lying and who’s telling the truth. BUT be careful, not all that's lost is meant to be found.

Everyone has a story to tell:

That’s one of the game’s guiding philosophies, and it’s why the art direction uses mixed media (2D, 3D, pixel art, claymation-like, and more). Each character is purposely designed to look and feel unique, like each of them has a story to tell.  Also, listen closely; every townsfolk you’ll meet carries memories, gossip, secrets, surprises and even lies. Information you might find valuable down the line.

Every item you return matters:

From a decade-old wallet to an old notebook that holds a legendary bread recipe, each item contains a piece of someone’s life. Returning them to the right hands may uncover stories and change a life for the better, but giving them to the wrong individual may lead to unexpected consequences that affect the story of the game.

Features

  • Explore the small rural town of Luisiana.

  • Return lost belongings.

  • Discover the stories of those belongings and their owners along the way.

  • Make sure to return the belongings to the right owners. Not everyone will tell you the truth.

  • Every returned item moves the story forward. Returning an item to the wrong person affects the story.

  • Choose who to befriend and who not to trust among hundreds of unique characters.

How Wabi-Sabi helped shaped Lost & Found

I recently gave a talk about Lost & Found at MAD Summit in Batangas, Philippines. One of the gists of the talk was Wabi-Sabi, or the worldview that there’s beauty in imperfections. I summarized that into the game’s Volume 2 short concept art book titled The Art of Wabi-Sabi. There, I talk about my design process and how imperfections help guide me into creating artworks for my game, Lost & Found. Get the game’s Volume 2 concept art book here:  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ymiLzb8le9_MNHEingLeQywNDq6PyFm3?usp=sharing  In exchange for the art book, if you’ve got the time, please vote for Lost & Found to be a part of BlueOceanGames’ RT#3. Put it in your top 3 if you find the game interesting.  https://blueoceangames.com/challenge/voting  (For context, the image below is an early pass of the game’s capsule art, and I’m basically showing it because I believe there’s also beauty in showing the process of making art. I hope you enjoy the small art book I’ve prepared :)
