AUTOMATED MESSAGE TO NEW EMPLOYEES - DO NOT RESPOND
Employee #759618F, your five (5) year probation period in VitaCare+ Claims Processing has begun.
VitaCare+ is the nation's largest health insurance provider. As a new Claims Adjuster, you are our first line of defense against unnecessary medical payouts.
You must maximize shareholder value by denying claims that violate our insurance policies. Operate under the assumption of patient fraud. Do not let patients' emotional stories reduce your productivity.
Note: VitaCare+ does not cover mental health services for probationary employees.
TRAINING MANUAL - FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY
To ensure your success, you must master the VitaCare+ software. Your continued employment and financial survival depend on the following mechanics:
Document Inspection: You are required to manually drag, organize, and cross-reference digital paperwork on your screen. Compare X-rays, medical histories, and doctors' notes against the provided policy binder to find loopholes for denial.
Time Pressure: A daily timer governs your shift. Claims left unprocessed when the clock runs out are claims you don't get paid for. Your rent, your family's wellbeing, and your own VitaCare+ premiums depend on how many you clear before the day ends.
Adapt to Changing Rules: Corporate policy changes overnight. A medical procedure that was fully covered on Monday might be an immediate denial by Wednesday. You are expected to adapt your strategy to survive the week.
Handle Client Repercussions: The files on your desk are not isolated. Your verdicts have ongoing consequences. Patients will attempt to contact your terminal as their conditions worsen over the course of your probation. You will encounter branching stories and moral choices driven by your approvals and denials. Any deviation from processing targets to address patient grievances will result in immediate wage deduction.
NOTICE: VitaCare+ is not liable for changes in employee perception.
You have been granted terminal access with Class F security clearance. Performance, keystroke logging, and time-tracking metrics are now active. We expect to see you reach the targets set out by management.

By authenticating your login, you surrender all biometric and keystroke data to VitaCare+. Devlog #2: Redacting the Truth
Hey, welcome back! Finn here again, the solo developer behind Denied. If you are new here, Denied is a dystopian corporate simulator where you sit at a desk, compare documents, hunt for policy loopholes, and deny insurance claims to provide for your family.Last time I wrote about the Decay System, which is really about what the job quietly does to you. The pressure wears you down until you stop seeing the people on the other side of the paperwork. The names turn into IDs, the faces go dark, and after a while, you stop caring, because caring is not what gets you through the day. This devlog is about the other direction. It is about the one thing the game lets you do to push back. RECLASSIFICATION Most games about a desk and a stamp give you two answers. Yes, or no. You read the rule, you follow it, and the only real question is whether you were paying attention. I wanted Denied to offer more than that. I wanted you to be able to reach into the document itself and change what it says.Like I teased last time, you physically black out what a claim really says and write in the version you need instead. A date, a name, a diagnosis. You can push a valid claim until it looks deniable, or you can drag a hopeless one back from the dead and force it through. Whatever the rules were about to decide for you, this is where you get to decide for yourself instead. There is a gentler word for it, of course. Reclassification. That is the one you end up reaching for in your own head, because it lets you pretend you are just filing things a little more accurately. But you are not. You are forging evidence. A black bar drops over the real text, the lie gets written in by hand, and the ink keeps flickering on the page so you never forget that it was you. There is something familiar about a black bar sitting over the truth...Usually, that move gets aimed down at people like you, never handed to them. Here, for once, you are the one holding the marker, so enjoy this feeling of power! Howev...Read full article on Community Announcements (finneliaslehmann)Patch NotesOfficial
Devlog #1: Dehumanizing the Data
Hello! I'm Finn, the solo developer behind Denied. This is the first official devlog for the game. If you are new here, Denied is a dystopian corporate simulator where you compare complex documents, hunt for policy loopholes, and deny claims to meet a strict daily quota.Today I want to talk about the mechanic I am most proud of: The Patient Decay System.THE DECAY SYSTEMA while ago, I posted a prototype showing how patients visually decayed as you played. The feedback I got was very useful and honest. The old effect looked like a lazy saturation filter that makes patients look more demonic, and the screen getting brighter was actually hurting people's eyes.I went back and reworked the whole pipeline to focus on the psychological toll of the job.It is not just a filter anymore. As you reject more claims and the days blur together, the decay targets the specific elements of humanity on your screen. You might be reading a handwritten get-well card from a patient's granddaughter, but the photo attached to it is slowly turning into a featureless mannequin. The whole terminal corrupts around you to match. The screen gets darker, and scanlines creep in, giving everything that yellowish tint of an old, dying monitor. Even the text begins to rot. Patient names slowly turn into IDs, medical histories turn into jargon, and by the end of the week, the forms barely read like they are about real people anymore. You hopefully won't even notice it happening while you play (so by the time this game comes out, you should forget I told you about it...). You will be too focused on hitting your quota to care.COMING NEXT: RECLASSIFICATIONI am currently finishing the new Fabrication Mechanic. This isn't just about finding reasons to deny people. It is about making them up. I am building a tool where you physically black out a patient's real diagnosis and write in a corporate-approved reason instead. I will talk more about it in my next devlog, so stay tuned!A NOTE ON SCHEDULEI am also in the ...Read full article on Community Announcements (finneliaslehmann)
