About this game

Roadmap

Feature List

Cull the Crib is a roguelike deckbuilder where cribbage is your weapon. Every hand you play is a fight for survival — score combos, trigger faction abilities, and outlast increasingly dangerous enemies across a 12-encounter gauntlet.

This isn't your grandma's cribbage game. Every card in the 52-card deck belongs to one of four factions, and every card played triggers unique effects that can turn the tide of battle. Pairs, runs, fifteens — the classic cribbage combos you know now deal damage, apply debuffs, and fuel devastating abilities.

FOUR FACTIONS, FOUR PLAYSTYLES

Demon Horde — The Warlord charges into battle with raw burst damage. Score combos to deal devastating bonus damage and heal through sheer aggression.

Undead Legion — The Necromancer sustains through lifesteal, draining enemy HP with every card played. Outlast your opponents and let attrition do the work.

Shadow Cult — The Shadow Priest controls the battlefield with Fear, stacking debuffs that cripple enemy damage output. Dominate through manipulation.

Hell Hounds — The Hound Master applies stacking Burn damage that persists between hands, ticking away at enemies over time. Build pressure until they break.

KEY FEATURES

Cribbage-Based Combat — A fresh take on the deckbuilder genre. Score fifteens, pairs, runs, and flushes to deal damage. If you know cribbage, you're already dangerous. If you don't, the tutorial has you covered.

96 Unique Talents — Each faction has a deep 8-tier talent tree with 3 choices per tier. Build your character your way — no two runs play the same.

Faction Conversion — Reshape your deck mid-run. Convert cards from rival factions into your own, permanently changing your deck's composition for all future draws. Stack your deck with your faction's cards to trigger more abilities, stronger combos, and deeper synergies with every hand.

12-Encounter Runs — Battle through three waves of enemies, each capped by a boss with unique mechanics, phase shifts, and enrage abilities.

Shop & Relic System — Spend pegs earned from defeated enemies on potions, relics, and cards. Relics provide permanent passive bonuses for your entire run. Potions give you a clutch edge when you need it most.

Status Effects — Burn stacks tick damage every turn and explode at the cap. Fear reduces enemy damage, buying you time to set up lethal combos. Master both to survive.

Every Card Matters — All 52 cards have unique faction effects. Playing any faction's cards triggers their abilities regardless of your class, opening up cross-faction strategies.

Built for Replayability — Four classes, deep talent trees, random encounters, and shop RNG mean every run tells a different story.

    A Big Update

Cull the Crib v0.2.0 Patch NotesThe Map: New Encounters & Events The run is no longer a straight march of fights. Each section now shuffles a mix of encounters into a random order before its boss — fights, events, a rest, and a shop — so no two runs unfold the same way. Omen Events (?): A pool of 12 bespoke events. Strike a bargain, spin a wheel of fortune, loot a dead man's hand, pay a knife's toll, or stop a turning card — each offers a reward, a price, or a gamble. Some gifts come with a curse. Curses: 13 temporary curses can follow you out of an Omen bargain — a bleeding wound, frailty, a tithe on your pegs, a weakened faction, a marked deck, an enemy that plays first, and more. Active curses are shown on the map and in combat, and wear off after a combat or two. The Tally (Tavern Rest): Rest to heal 20% of your max HP, or Temper your deck for a permanent ×1.15 to one faction's signature mechanic. It stacks additively each visit — two Tempers on the same faction is +30% (×1.30), three is +45% (×1.45). The ×1.15 multiplies: Demon Horde — combo damage: a combo that hits for 100 → 115 Undead Legion — lifesteal healing: a 40-HP steal heals 40 → 46 Shadow Cult — Fear stacks applied: applying 6 Fear lands 6 → 7 stacks Hell Hounds — Burn damage per tick: 10 stacks ticking for 40 now deal 40 → 46 The Merchant: A dedicated shop node. Add items to a cart to weigh your spend before committing, then tip the merchant on your way out for a heal — a Small Tip (5% of what you spent) for a guaranteed patch-up, or a Large Tip (20%) that gambles on a bigger one. The tip is at least 1 peg, and tipping ends your visit. Elite Encounters: One enemy each section can be empowered for a harder fight — more HP, two hot faction reactions at once, and hardened defense — in exchange for a guaranteed relic and bonus pegs. Empowering is opt-in: walk in cautious or greedy.New Features Crib Depth (Ascension Difficulty): A new per-character difficulty ladder. Clear a depth to unlock the next one,...

Cull the Crib v0.1.3 Update - More Balance Updates, Bug Fixes, & Text Updates

Cull the Crib v0.1.3 Patch NotesCard Changes Pyre (5 of Hell Hounds): Now applies +3 Burn instead of +5. Old wording was also slightly ambiguous and has been cleaned up.Enemy Changes Cursed Mirror: Reflected damage from the Horde card ability is now capped at 40 per hit. The enemy still copies 25% of your damage, but big single hits can no longer rebound for catastrophic amounts. Rotten Jack-o-Lantern: The Shadow card penalty has been reworked. Playing a Shadow card now reduces Fear application to 50% effectiveness, instead of doubling the cost to apply Fear. Easier to read and more predictable.Quality of Life Counting Display: The combo label during Counting now shows the actual damage dealt for each combo, not just the combo name. You can see exactly how much each scoring combo is hitting for. Game Speed Button: The fast forward icon now uses double arrows so the current speed level is easier to read at a glance. Damage and Healing Balance Bar Removed: The small balance indicator under the health bar has been removed to clean up the HUD.Tutorial Card Effects Step Added: A new tutorial step explains that every card has a unique faction effect based on its rank, so new players know to read card descriptions.Bug Fixes Card Art: Fixed an issue that could leave some card images missing from the build on certain installs. Enemy Defeated Text: When you defeat only a single enemy, the result text now reads "Enemy defeated" instead of using a plural. Crash Fix: Fixed a rare crash that could occur during certain enemy ability interactions.

Cull the Crib v0.1.2 Update - Balance Updates, Bug Fixes, & Text Updates

Cull the Crib v0.1.2 Patch NotesFaction RenamedThe fourth faction is now called Hell Hounds in every menu, tooltip, and card name. Some screens used to call it Beast Clan, which was confusing. New Choice on the 10 of Hell HoundsThe first time you play a 10 of Hell Hounds in a run, you now pick one of two extra effects on top of its normal Burn: Instant Damage: deal 10 fire damage right away.Extra Burn: add 2 more Burn stacks instead.Your pick locks in for the rest of the run and resets when you start a new one. Talent ChangesDemon HordeRepeat: If you deal 15 or more damage during Play, you deal 15 bonus damage once during Counting. It used to repeat every Counting combo, which was much stronger than intended.Hell HoundsInferno: Tooltip clarified. Burn now clearly says it ticks twice per hand: once at the start of Play and once at the end of Counting. Same behavior as before.Speed: When you score a 31 or earn a Last Card point during Play, deal 20% of the enemy's current Burn damage to the enemy. It used to trigger a full Burn tick on every score, including the enemy's, which was way too strong.Pyro: Now requires the enemy to have 10 or more Burn stacks before it kicks in. Once they're over that, every extra 5 stacks auto-consumes for 20 instant damage. It used to fire at any 5 stacks.Crit: Burn now crits for 1.5x damage at 1.2% chance per Burn stack. It used to be 2x at 12% per stack, which was way over what we designed it for.Undead LegionReservoir: Completely changed. You gain +30% damage permanently, but you can't heal above 75% of your max HP. Lifesteal still damages the enemy as normal, but your own healing tops out at 75%.Iron Will: Direction flipped. You now take 15% MORE damage, and gain +0.01 mult per 5 HP stolen (up to +1.5 mult). It's a glass cannon tradeoff now, not damage reduction.Death Touch: Now actually works. Whenever the enemy heals, you steal 15% of that healing. The enemy keeps the other 85%.Eternal: Lifesteal is now capped at 15 per instance, a...
