Devlog #2
Hello again! We're back with an important update on the demo, as well as some new development progress. We introduced ourselves in our latest Devlog, so we'll skip that part (you can read the introduction on that post if you want to know a little more about us).Let's get started with the important announcement.Demo launchWe initially planned to release a demo on itch.io between April and May to find bugs and/or issues before publishing it during Steam Next Fest in June. However, as the date approached, we found jobs outside of DRAIN that we decided to take, both to support the game's development financially and for personal reasons. That was last month, and now we're relatively free to focus primarily on the game. Although we could work day and night during May to have the demo ready in June, we would have to cut content and/or reduce its quality, also at the expense of our mental health. After discussing it, we decided to take the necessary time. The new date for the demo's release is Steam Next Fest in October. We know it's quite a long time, but we haven't ruled out publishing a test on itch.io before then. This also doesn't mean there won't be any development updates or previews.Like this:That's just a small sample of one of the things we've been working on.Next, we'll show several more things and share our thoughts on development since the last Devlog.Art \Hello, Esaú here again.I've been busy with some projects that came my way, and I couldn't refuse them because, well, I need the money, and game development doesn't pay much until you release your first product. And clearly, we're still in the early stages of this title, haha. Because of this, my devlog took longer to arrive than it should have, and my progress on this one is rather modest compared to the last. Anyway, let's get down to business.I've been modeling one of the random enemies that will appear from time to time in the game. This enemy represents envy because, in our game's lore, the people affected by t...Read full article on Community Announcements (Penkinton)AnnouncementsOfficial
Devlog #1
Hello! 👋 Welcome to the first post on the DRAIN Devlog (development blog) from the PENKINTON team.First, we'd like to introduce ourselves. We are Esaú and Vidal, founders of PENKINTON and creators of DRAIN. You could say we're both directors, but we're divided into so many roles that it's difficult to define just one. In terms of workload, Esaú handles the art, and Vidal handles the programming. With that in mind, let's describe the Devlog a bit more.As the name suggests, the Devlog will cover development. In this case, the development of DRAIN.Here, we'll cover the game's progress since the last post, from a technical perspective, with the aim of being transparent with the community about our progress and to share knowledge and listen to suggestions for improving quality. It will also serve as a way for us to vent.To be completely honest, we can't promise a posting schedule for this blog. With the demo release date just around the corner (April-May), our priority is finishing it. Even so, we'll do our best to publish at least one post a month.Since this is the first post, we'll give a summary of what we've accomplished so far, followed by our plans. Each section will be written by the person in charge of that section.Art \Map reworks(I hated the particle effects)These changes I made during the rework of these maps include:Texture changesModel changesGlobal illumination changesCreation of new particle effectsCreation of new fire effects with Six Point Light shadersGeneral optimizations (although this area can still be improved a bit more)Why did I decide to make these changes to maps that were already finished?Well, simply because it didn't quite meet my own quality standards, I felt the textures and geometry weren't convincing with the art style I wanted for the game. I thought that to make the game look amazing, we needed to slap geometry everywhere, but I learned that good texturing is far more valuable than just slapping geometry on haphazardly (not to mention mor...Read full article on Community Announcements (Penkinton)
