About this game

Forage for wild plants in the rugged wilderness of Ireland and cook for otherworldly inhabitants...

Rewilding starts within. Follow Aoife on their journey to reconnect with their past, nature, and ultimately themself. Explore the land, forage for wild plants, craft bespoke dishes, and delight otherworldly clientele. Along the way, Aoife will learn about the plants around them, the folklore told in the area, and their family's past.

Created in Ireland with love, Good Folk Cafe is inspired by our own experiences of life in Ireland and the tales that have been shared with us.

Explore beautiful landscapes

Explore a rugged and wild landscape…

Of white roads winding by the edge

Of bare, untamèd land,

Where dry stone wall or ragged hedge

Runs wide on either hand.

Learn about real plants

Forage plants along the way. Manage the space in your bag and find the perfect plants for your dish!

Learn about the real wild plants of Ireland as you accumulate knowledge in and out of the game.

Cook for otherworldly beings

Cook beautiful meals with the bounty you've gathered on your trails. Take your time assembling bespoke dishes for your mysterious customers.

Reconnect & Rewild

Uncover the past as you try to connect with your otherworldly neighbours who don’t speak or act the way humans do.

Live a simple life in the wilderness. Repair abandoned equipment and decorate your wild camp.

Meet the locals, listen to their stories, learn from their tales, and enjoy their company when they visit Aoife for a cuppa.

Relax and seek out stillness in nature.

Made with love in Ireland.

-

Cold, cold this thousand years—yet still
On many a time-stained page

Your pride, your truth, your dauntless will,

Burn on from age to age.

And still around the fires of peat

Live on the ancient days;

There still do living lips repeat

The old and deathless lays.

General UX polishBetter map feedback.Faster end-of-day pacing.Cleaner UI behavior and timing tweaks.Various visual alignment and typo fixes. Energy System 🔋 Having an energy system is very linked to the core story of the game (some news about that soon!). Aoife, our main character, came to this place to recover and regain energy. So we wanted to start the game with the feeling that only very few things could be done in a day. And as we progress, understand the land better, and make the Fae happy, we gain more energy, the days feel longer, and we can do more and more stuff. This is the first iteration of the system, so let us know what you think about it! The Tastes of the Fae 🧚 We made a major iteration on the content here. We simplified the plan tastes (no more unknown taste at the start), and clarified what it meant for a Fae to like and dislike tastes. We also added flavour and hint texts in the fae book/app. I think this is a major improvement; it really makes the trying to please the Fae more immediate and more engaging. I can't wait to hear your feedback on this one! We also started playing with the concept that cutting plants changes their tastes. Right now it is only sliced or not sliced. But we are planning to expand to more tastes (bitter becomes sweet, pungent becomes aromatic, etc.). Dish Re...

    Summer Roadmap

We have been receiving a lot of feedback since we published our demo (give it a try if you haven't already!). We even got a review! Receiving feedback is really useful; it helps us focus on what matters to you, so keep sending comments, ideas, and feedback! At the moment, there are three big things we want to achieve:Marketing - Gather the interest of publishers and, overall, a larger communityCreative - Improve the game experience, alwaysReadiness - Make sure we maintain a stable demo and that we are ready to scale up when the time is right. On the Creative Side:Time of Day 2.0. We got a lot of great feedback when we implemented the first version of the time-of-day feature. It really helped ground the experience and provided some guidance on what to do next (ex, if I don't have time to forage, I can cook). We have some great ideas to tie the system up more closely to the main narrative themes of the experience. Cooking Hints. Players have been having fun experimenting with plants and Fae, and seeing which combinations work and which do not. We want to add a layer of information so that players who engage with the lore and the narrative get rewarded with some useful hints in the cooking section. Taste & Fae Matching. We are working on a new, much clearer set of tastes and a new reward screen UI as well. Narrative Sequences: How do we tell our story? How much is narrated, and how much is baked into the gameplay? We're working on an intro sequence that will answer all those questions.Marketing:A Steam version of our demo: we aren't ready for a Steam demo yet, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a Steam build. The downside of it is that it is work that will not be seen by the community for quite some time. On the plus side, it's good to practice deploying the game on Steam, and also to see if there are any Steam-specific bugs. It's also a nice signal we can send to potential publishers. A Steam key carries a little bit more weight than a link to an itch demo. Final...
