Hello there! We're excited to share another development update on Locomochi, our cozy puzzle game where you control a tiny toy locomotive 🚂🧩✨This month has been all about adding our final features. We've been refining many of the systems already in the game, improving usability based on player feedback, and preparing for the next big milestone: our public playtest.Quick recap🗺️ New Camera MapFollowing the received feedback, players can now access a strategic overview of the level from anywhere, making puzzles much easier to read and plan. We've also replaced the old request panel with diegetic in-world popups that communicate deliveries much more naturally.🚂 Platform snappingWe have implemented a key feature for the game feel: platform snapping. Now wagons are gently attracted to delivery platforms, pressure plates, and other gameplay elements, making interactions much smoother and eliminating one of the biggest frustrations we observed during playtesting.📖 Instructions BookletWe have designed a brand-new scrapbook-inspired instruction booklet that serves as a tutorial guide. It is complete with embedded gameplay videos and written explanations in order to understand complex mechanics and puzzles.⚙️ Technical art & optimizationWe've also been receiving technical art mentorship focused on rendering performance, optimization, and visual quality. These improvements will help us achieve a better-looking game while keeping future platforms like Steamdeck in mind.🌿 Visual polishEnvironment Blocking V2 is now complete across every level of the Vertical Slice. We've added placeholder vegetation, improved water shaders, expanded the HUB to accommodate optional challenge levels, and started integrating placeholder VFX to make interactions feel much more satisfying.🎯 Reducing scope to improve qualityAfter reviewing our priorities, we've decided to postpone locomotive cosmetics until after the Vertical Slice.Instead, we're investing that time into polishing the core experience, improv...

Hello there! We’re excited to share a new update on the development of Locomochi, our wholesome puzzle game where you control a tiny toy locomotive 🚂🧩✨This month has been all about making the game feel more cohesive as we continue building our Vertical Slice.Quick recap🚂 New locomotive & whistleWe've integrated the new locomotive into the game and started working on the whistle mechanic. It's still early, but having the new train in-engine already makes Locomochi feel much closer to its final identity.🌳 Environment blockingWe've completed the environment blocking for the first three levels.Even without final art, this has completely changed the atmosphere of the game and helped us better visualize the toy world we're building.✨ VFX, SFX & game feelWe've started integrating visual and audio feedback across many gameplay systems. Most effects are still placeholders, but they already make the world feel more responsive and easier to understand.Jose has also implemented input buffering, making interactions feel smoother and more forgiving.⚙️ Moving platformsThe moving and rotating platforms now have their first art integration. We deliberately postponed texturing while we continue validating the mechanics and improving controls based on playtesting feedback.🏡 HUB developmentWe've started concepting, prototyping, and blocking the HUB.This system will connect all levels into a more cohesive world and provide a clearer structure for progression and optional content.📷 Camera improvementsYes, we've changed the camera again. The new setup focuses on three key views: close-up locomotive shots, environmental views, and strategic puzzle-solving views. We're also exploring "Camera Beacons" that would allow players to get an overview of the level. We're still deciding whether this should be a special building or a button available at any time. 📱 UI & UXWe've made good progress defining the overall UX structure of the game, including game states and interface behaviours.Meanwhile, Carla ...
