Explore and craft in The Grimwood Hex, an indie strategy game where each move counts. Free trapped spirits by outsmarting twisted creatures under the watchful eye of time.

About this game

Build your deck, expand the board, and survive the night in this Grimm fairytale inspired roguelike deckbuilder.

Curate Your Deck and Outmaneuver Enemies

A deckbuilder at heart, The Grimwood Hex has a wide variety of cards to choose from. Each with their own synergies allowing for you to choose how you want to play. These are utilised in a unique, hex based, combat system where maneuverability and use of the environment are the difference between life and death.

Build and Explore Grimwood

During the day, place hex tiles to build out the mysterious Grimwood. Explore it's secrets, construct your deck, gain a variety of enchanted items and survive encounters with the twisted creatures that lurk within. Ensure your path back to town is well plotted, as when night falls, the Nightwatcher will emerge from the darkness to hunt you down.

Meet the Forest's Inhabitants

Not all creatures that inhabit Grimwood are immediately hostile. Help these odd folk and they will offer their aid and wisdom in return. However, remember that in Grimwood, nothing comes without a cost.

Race Against Time

Spend your time wisely. A threat looms on the night of the third day and without adequate preparation your run will end in defeat.

Demo Update 1.1: Combat Balancing, Audio Improvements (+What's Next!)

It's been 1 week since the demo for The Grimwood Hex was released! The response has been amazing to see, and we're so happy that you've enjoyed playing what we have so far. That being said, we have made a few improvements where needed.DifficultyThe game before was too hard. We haven't seen many players get to the boss and defeat it, let alone play any of the optional challenges. For this reason, we've decided to reduce the amount of enemies that spawn per arena by 1. This should provide new players a better experience where they can progress further, while still maintaining a higher difficulty for our more confident players with the optional challenges.AudioThere was some aspects of the demo that were missing audio which have now been introduced. These include:Combat musicPicking up cardsThe toad croaks!Loot chest openingMoving ForwardWe've gotten a lot of helpful feedback that we'll be applying to The Grimwood Hex in the coming months. Some of which include making the "why am I playing this board game?" more appealing, by adding some more narrative context and interesting gameplay moments. We'll also be adding much more content, such as more enemies, obstacles, cards, items and rings. There's also some usability issues that have been brought up, such as some players feeling like they're constantly battling the camera. We aim to fix or implement these feedback points for when we release, which is still TBA.Thank you so much for playing!!!
