Playtest results + future plans
Fellow Wizards! The public playtest has ended, thanks to everyone who participated! If you have requested access and gained it during the time it was public, you will remain to have access to the game until the demo release. Now I wanted to do a little write up on the data and feedback that I've seen and what the plans are for the game going forward! The numbers291 players have gained access to the playtest, and 39 friend invites were sent. (with 25 still pending, I believe these invited players can still gain access even if the playtest is not public if they accept.)46 of these players who gained access actually opened the game! And together achieved a mean (average) playtime of 34 minutes. Most of these players came from the US, but also some from New Zealand and Vietnam! On average per run:Took about 5 minutes till exit (either by dying or going through the portal)Players got to level 11Killed 927 monstersFound about 8 augmentsGot 7 gemsFound 2 spellsUsed the +1 to all spell levels pillar 0.0081% of the timeFound 6 items (I found out too late that this analytic was bugged, the value is actually less)Upgraded one augmentSwapped one augmentI'm sure you all can see that some changes are needed, and some have been made already (internally, not live yet). Some of the key points are that new players don't get enough spells at the start of their journey in order to start "playing" around with spells and trying out different combo's with augments. This part of the game is core (the "Intellectual Problem Solving" type of fun I wrote about before) and should be available really fast once you start playing. Finding 2 spells on average is not enough. And to add, augments don't work for every spell, so if you have 2 spells, the 8 augments you got on average are not always going to be helpful. The amount of swapping and upgrading of augments is also too low, and whilst it's not a mandatory thing to use, it is an element of the game that allows you to get really strong. And while the...Read full article on Community Announcements (vectorinteractive)AnnouncementsOfficial

Public Playtest Information
Hello fellow wizards,This is a short update, I've been hard at work getting bugs smashed and the flow of the game in a good state. So it is time for a public playtest! Now some of you have seen the big green button on the store page already to request access, and there are a few hundred people waiting to try it out! Next week Monday (June 8th) I'll let everyone in and the playtest will remain open for the duration of the Bullet Fest. (1 week) Players who got access will remain to have access.Since the last post things have been rebalanced and improved, 16 new items have been added that can have a major impact on your gameplay, such as this one:Next to that all the tool-tips are updated and now inform you at their best about the spell, augment or item that you are hovering over. They now look like the picture below and will instantly adapt the values whenever an augment is swapped, added or removed. So you can easily compare what effect an augment has on a few of your spells. Also some new map events have been added, you can now swap and upgrade augments in a map if you find the pillar and have the coin.So if you are reading this and you want to give the game a whirl, hit the green 'Request Access' button and you'll get access next week Monday before the Bullet Fest starts! Thanks for reading! If you have any suggestions, feedback or just want to leave a comment feel free to do so!- RinkeRead full article on Community Announcements (vectorinteractive)AnnouncementsOfficial
Designing unique minions and spells
Hello everyone,Today I'd like to chat about the thought process of creating a new minion (or spells in general). And why they should be the way they are. So a few days ago I added a new minion to the roster of already existing minions in the game. For the demo / play-test purposes I already added 3 minions that each have a different goal in the game, and I felt like the game needed a 4th one for the complete package.Giving the player a wider choice like this adds a bit of 'Intellectual Problem Solving', a common form of fun which you also see in ARPG's like Diablo / Path of Exile for example, where you have to figure out if equipping item A or B is better and in what circumstances it is better. Because sometimes A is only better than B if X applies. In Ultimate Wizard, you don't know beforehand what augments you are going to get in a run, so you could go for 4 Summon Crab spells and hope for the best, or perhaps spread out a bit so more augments are useful to you. And by offering at least 4 options, you are free to try things out and see what works best. Perhaps mixing minions with actual spells is the better option. This new minion does something the others cannot do, and that makes the build diversity larger and more interesting. You might have have played games before where 2 items are so close to each other in the way they work, that it doesn't matter in the end if you pick one or the other.Sometimes you see this in modern shooter games if they have a very large roster of weapons, there are only so many vectors in which (real-life) weapons can differ (damage, recoil, distance, for example). And if you have only 10 weapons, you can make those 10 feel very diverse. But if you have 50 weapons, some are bound to be close to each other in the way they feel due to the limitations.Fantasy games don't have to fall into this pit, because with spells or magic in general you are not bound to existing vectors in which they can differ from each other. The new Summon Frost Wisp ...Read full article on Community Announcements (vectorinteractive)
