About this game

Tear through the decaying Earth as a mutant half-worm in this arcade inspired rail shooter!

🪱🪱🪱

For eons, the Angels protected the Earth: acting as the white blood cells of the planet. Until the year 21XX when the Shepherd Biosciences Corporation, in pursuit of Divine Immortality, unknowingly unleashed an otherworldly plague upon them from within.

Now the Earth is putrid and infested: drowning under an ocean of blood as worms feed upon its gangrenous corpse, its protectors rotting from the inside out. The few that are left seek "Rapture", the ascension of a Messiah that could cleanse the rot and remake the world anew.

You could be their savior... But does this world deserve saving, after it gave you nothing?

🪱🪱🪱

FEATURES

  • Frenzied Combo-Based Gameplay

We have no need of bullets: mow through enemies with your worm mutant abilities, and gulp down their blood to refuel. The more blood you can drink without taking damage, the longer you can attack without reloading.

  • Pure Arcade-Style Panic

    • Each enemy type has a unique weak spot - aim well and destroy them before they overwhelm you!

  • Mutations Abound

The plague that has befallen the planet has caused "ATP Pods" to sprout from the brains of the dead. Consume them before the leftovers of humanity do.

  • Branching Level Paths

Just like the classic rail shooters of old, each level has multiple paths depending on the player's actions, complete with different enemy encounters.

  • Gore Soaked Angelic Atmosphere

These worms shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.

    Demo Update: Sinden, Gamefeel, Story

Hello everywormy 🪱Been a while! Most of the changes this update revolve around Sinden/Lightgun usage and the design tweaks required to be able to accommodate it. Although I wanted to get this update out much earlier, making the game lightgun friendly ended up being a much bigger undertaking than I thought it'd be: using a different peripheral + turning the mouse cursor off necessitated a lot of design (and code) changes for how shooting works. For example (and I know this is pulling back the curtain a bit here) when turning off the mouse cursor, I noticed that the worm whip alone gave bad player shooting feedback. Putting in a larger blast effect worked, but had the side effect of giving off the impression that player shots were missed on far away enemies, which meant I needed to put in a distance based "mercy radius" so that shooting felt consistent across all scenarios. This meant that collecting blood now felt too tight, so I had to loosen it. Rinse and repeat.Nevertheless, the game feels a lot better for it, so I'm happy to have gone through it as an exercise!Patch Notes:Extended out the tutorial area to become a proper first level.Added a few additional cutscenes.Added a Sinden Lightgun border option.Added local multiplayer. (Requires two mice/lightguns. Sadly this means that Steam Remote Play won't work...)Added an Aim Test scene in the menu to allow people to test their lightguns before jumping into the main demo.Added a kiss of a post effects pass.Added an easy difficulty mode.Added a "Rebirth Cell" enemy type. These appear when a Cell Type enemy consumes an ATP Pod.Added an "Infected" enemy type. These are partially transformed nuns that drop an ATP pod if hit in the weak spot.Updated visuals on the crosshair UI.Updated the HUD to add feedback on player hits + aesthetic polish.Updated combat visuals to better read with no cursor turned on (also it just looks cooler)Updated the combat sound effects to incorporate the traditional indie game pasta stirring audi...

    Website + Demo Gamefeel Update

Thanks to everyone who played the demo so far!!Between reddit/youtube comments and the steam board, I got a lot of fine polish feedback about the demo, and since most of it pertained to game feel and balance I was able to squint my brain into doing it as one pass, wooooo~Also, I finally got a website up and running. On the page is some information about the game, plus some character bios of most of the main characters, including ones that aren't in the demo yet. Eventually I'll put up a media and FAQ page, but for now it works!Check it out! -> https://chicken-hat.neocities.org/TNFa/tnfgameNow, without further ado... Patch Notes!Added a cutscene skip function.Cell Types (the zombie-like enemies) can now have their limbs shot off. Enemies with removed legs move slower.Cell Types (the zombie-like enemies) now have a small hurt animation that plays upon staggering or de-limbing.Puncture holes now appear on (non-boss) enemies upon impact.Blood is now transparent when close to the player.Changed some visuals for the UI and player worm tendril.Changed the Cat Angel's texture to better visually describe what it is.Changed the Hazmat Nun's vizor to be red for more consistency with the other enemies. Also tweaked the colors on Advent for a similar reason.Changed some numbers around with regards to things like enemy health or reload time for balance's sake.ATP pods are now hidden inside of the corpses until all enemies are cleared.(Hopefully) Fixed issues where Advent would get stuck in place if wailed on too fast. What's Next?"Slap the results screen with that a big ol' letter grade" type scoring update.Make the options menu accessible in-game. Overall pass on making the game Sinden friendly. Thanks again!-ChickenHat

    [DEMO] Options Menu Update

Thank you to everyone that's played the demo so far! After getting some feedback across the steam and itchio versions of the demo, I went ahead and updated it to include an options menu. As of right now, the options will only be accessible in the main menu, but eventually I'll hook it up to the pause screen as well. (Seeing that the demo is less than 10 minutes long I figured I could treat myself to lowering it down on the priority list.)In addition, the options menu now comes with two oft requested gameplay related options: toggling the autofire on and off, and hiding the crosshair.Enjoy!-ChickenHat
