In The Carcass, navigate the corpse of a deceased deity, negotiating with alien factions and evolving mutations in this roguelike adventure.
About this game
You wake inside a dead god. The corpse is your world: a continent of rotting organs, bone corridors, and forgotten chambers, rendered in retro terminal ASCII with authentic CRT glow. For fans of Caves of Qud, Dwarf Fortress, Cultist Simulator, and Sunless Sea.

Harvest biomass, calcium, bile, and neurons from the rotting flesh around you. Every organ is a resource. Every bone is a wall. The deeper you carve, the more the carcass yields and the more it remembers.

Build chambers, forges, and altars across living anatomy. Every citizen has traits, skills, and scars that outlive them. Leaders rise. Factions form and clash. Hold morale together or decide who eats and who is eaten.

Research splits into combat, production, diplomacy, and forbidden arts. Unlock occult mutations: bone armor, mind-link, parasite resistance, the ability to digest gods. The deeper you dig, the more the carcass understands you.

Send your warriors into the marrow. Battle parasites that learned what fear is. Defend chambers against creatures that wake when you sleep. Permadeath is real, but the carcass remembers every warrior you ever sent in.

Story-rich Lovecraftian events drawn from deep cosmic horror lore. A stranger comes asking for shelter. An organ pulses with stolen memory. The voice in the wall offers a deal. Every choice echoes through factions, futures, and endings.

Every keystroke shapes your fate. Every choice carries forward. New Game Plus carries your victories. The carcass remembers everything you ever did inside it.

Dominion. Symbiosis. Awakening. Escape. Transcendence. Five main endings, and four more hidden behind cryptic choices. Each demands a different strategy. Each rewrites how the god remembers you.

Five difficulty levels from Merciful to Extinction. Permadeath Ironman mode. Localization, accessibility, and a customizable terminal. Pure keyboard input. Authentic CRT effects. No mouse needed.

Still here, still fixing
Still here. I'm one person, and this is my game. It came out this week, the reviews have been hard, and I have read all of them. This is what was wrong, what is fixed, and what I am working on now. The store page and the AI disclosure The description called the events "hand-written". That word is gone. It should never have been there, because the disclosure on the same page says the text was drafted with AI help, and both sentences cannot be true at once. The AI content disclosure went live hours after release. It belonged on the page before anyone could buy the game. That is my fault, and no explanation changes what it meant for you: the information was not there when you paid. It now also names the music and the store artwork, which it did not at first. If that is a dealbreaker, refund it. No hard feelings. The objection is fair, and I would rather you keep your money than feel misled. Fixed, and in the next update The intro told you the same thing twice. Several of you named it: one twist, repeated as if it were new each time. Two passages were being printed on top of art that already carried the same lines. They are cut. "ask" answered the wrong event. Fifty-four events, every disaster and every threat among them, fell through to a generic reply. They now answer from the situation you are actually in. The voice ended by dropping dead. Spoken lines stopped mid-hum, room tone and all. They fade out now. What I am working on Menus that drop you at the bottom of a wall of text. You will arrive at the top instead. Misaligned bars and inconsistent stat layouts, screen by screen. Moving between menus without being sent back to the main screen first. Russian and Chinese: a full translation pass. Both were named again and again, and both earned it. Music that cuts instead of fading, and tracks that do not match the room they play in. One thing I am not changing This game asks you to read. Cutting the text would make it a different game, and that is the game I set out to ...Read full article on Community Announcements (ahmetbabagil817)Patch NotesOfficial
Update 2.1.5 — Fourteen Complaints, Fourteen Answers
Update 2.1.5 — Fourteen Complaints, Fourteen Answers Two days before launch, the last big update. We went back through every criticism the game has received, put all fourteen on one page, and gave each one either a fix or a number. Your choice stays on the screen The most common complaint was also the worst one: you would make a decision and never see what it did. A queued command was firing in the same breath as your choice, so a pulse worth of notifications landed on top of the receipt and the view scrolled past it. Now the receipt stays put. A continuation line names what is waiting, and it plays only when you press Enter. The tutorial tells you it is waiting A guided lesson would sit on the same step forever if you never gave the command it wanted — in one run the same objective hung from step 23 all the way to step 1106. That is exactly the "I pressed end turn ten times and nothing happened" report. Now, every three unanswered pulses, an amber line tells you how long it has been waiting and points at the way out. A guided lesson never advances itself, and it never skips in silence. The first hour has its own face Two things happened to the art. A fitting bug was eating the borders off all 391 first-hour frames: it mistook the blank separator lines for the frame edges and cut the real ones, which is why some scenes looked like fragments. That is fixed. And roughly 381 scenes are now original hand-drawn art instead of borrowed faces from the general catalogue. 1,400 invisible characters, removed A translation tool had left double zero-width spaces in 200 cells across 24 languages. You cannot see them, but the engine counted every one as a legal place to break a line — which is why Chinese panels and Danish sentences folded in the middle of a word for no visible reason. All gone; every other word is byte-for-byte unchanged. Chinese and Russian also got a full editorial pass across the intro, the first hour, receipts and diplomacy. Steam Deck: bigger text, and a ke...Read full article on Community Announcements (ahmetbabagil817)
