About this game
Pixel Canyon
Short Description
Blast through an endless, procedurally generated river canyon in this retro-style arcade shooter. Manage your fuel, graze enemies for energy, and uncover the story of the "Sky Ghosts" squadron. In Pixel Canyon, the river never ends - but your fuel might.
About This Game
Pixel Canyon is a love letter to classic vertical scrolling shooters like *River Raid*, reimagined with modern mechanics and a narrative heart. Pilot your fighter jet up an infinite, treacherous river canyon, where every meter counts and the only way to survive is to keep moving forward.
Fuel Is Life
Your fuel gauge is constantly ticking down. To stay airborne, you must destroy enemy fuel barges and collect canisters. Flying fast consumes more fuel but covers more distance. Flying slow conserves fuel but leaves you vulnerable. Will you speedrun for the high score or play it safe?
The Graze System
Risk equals reward. Fly dangerously close to enemy ships, bullets, notice canyon walls to "Graze" them. Grazing regenerates your Energy and Fuel, allowing you to unleash powerful special weapons without relying on pickups.
Story Mode
Join the Sky Ghosts to reclaim their homeland from "Thered" invasion. Fly as ace pilot Akane, alongside veterans Jane and Leona, with support from mechanic Nao. Experience a 24-level campaign full of banter, drama, and intense boss battles.
Arsenal & Tactics
Unlock and master a variety of weapons to suit your playstyle:
Double & Spread Shot: For crowd control.
Homing Missiles: For precision strikes.
Flak Cannon: For devastating close-range damage.
Overheat Mechanic: Push your thrusters to the limit to escape danger, but watch your heat gauge—an overheated engine means you're a sitting duck.
Features
Fuel Mechanics: Speed consumes gas. Manage your throttle and destroy barges to keep flying.
Graze System: Fly dangerously close to enemies to recharge energy and fuel.
Procedural Generation: No two runs are the same. The canyon turns, twists, and spawns enemies unpredictably.
3 Game Modes:
Story: Follow the campaign.
Arcade: Infinite survival for the highest score.
HELL: Unlockable difficulty for true masochists.
5 Distinct Biomes: From lush Greenfields and frozen Ice rivers to the purple-hued Urban canals.
Retro Aesthetics: Authentic 160x240 internal resolution scaled up for crisp, chunky pixel art.
Original Soundtrack: Synthesized tunes that match the retro arcade vibe.
The World
The peaceful nation of Pixel has been overrun. As part of the last resistance, you are the only thing standing between the invading "Thered" forces and total annihilation. Strap in, throttle up, and don't forget to refuel.
Pixel Canyon: The river creates the path, but you create the legend.

Pixel Canyon – Four Months After Launch
Four months have passed since Pixel Canyon launched on Steam. This started as a simple experiment - and now it has grown into something much bigger than I originally planned. The idea was straightforward: take the core concept behind the classic River Raid and see whether it could still be fun for modern players. Four months later, the answer seems to be yes.But what about my work here? Well, since launch, Pixel Canyon has received multiple updates focused on improving both gameplay and presentation. One of the largest milestones was a major visual overhaul that refreshed many of the game's sprites, environments, and effects, giving the canyon a more polished and cohesive look while preserving its retro pixel-art roots.Gameplay has evolved as well. Weapons, acceleration effects, level balance, and overall game feel have been refined through countless small iterations. Several quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes were introduced based on player feedback, making the experience smoother and more approachable for new pilots. The onboarding experience received special attention. The tutorial was redesigned to better explain the game's core systems, from fuel management and weapon usage to the risk-versus-reward mechanics that define high-level play. Most recently, Pixel Canyon gained a brand-new Old School Arcade Mode. Inspired by classic arcade design, it introduces a lives system, extra-life rewards, and a more score-driven gameplay loop. At the same time, Story Mode received additional improvements, including better progression tracking and interface enhancements.Pixel Canyon remains a small indie project developed largely during evenings and weekends, but that's part of its charm. It's a reminder that even a simple idea can still evolve, surprise, and find an audience.Thank you to everyone who has played the game, reported bugs, shared feedback, or simply spent a few minutes flying through the canyon with the Sky Ghosts. The journey isn't over yet.See you in the ca...Read full article on Community Announcements (maxdemage)Patch NotesOfficial

Pixel Canyon - Launching on February 6th!
Ok, soooo....Huge news. After some-hard to calculate number of months of hard work, late nights, lots of coffee, and some angry slightly neglected wife, I am thrilled to announce that Pixel Canyon will be officially released on February 6th!As a solo-dev, reaching this milestone is a real treat. Pixel Canyon started as a small project after playing for few seconds a good old River Raid, and thinking - hey, I think I can do it. Now seeing it ready for you to play is an absolute great thing (and very anxious thing also, as I hope at least 5 or 10 people wil like it). I'm not as good at graphics, and not as good at music - but I’ve poured my heart into every pixel and mechanic, and I can't wait to see how you will handle challenges I thrown at you all.So what is inside:pixel artgood old canyon ridingsome nice storyand a lot of deaths when you run out of fuel.If you haven't yet, please Wishlist the game. Tell your freinds. And get ready on 6th to do some grazing. It helps this almost non existing tiny studio (of one person, kek) massively with the algorithm.Best,Lukasz MaxRead full article on Community Announcements (maxdemage)
