A meditative farming strategy in the early 2000s: your home village and the machines you remember from childhood. Revive a run-down farm, trade on a living market, run production chains, take on your neighbours' contracts and grow your fleet — from small tractors to combines.
Strategy, Early Access · 2026 · More free games
Manage a thriving village farm as you trade on a living market and take on neighbors' contracts. In The Headlands, blend early 2000s nostalgia with modern strategy gameplay.
About this game

The Headlands is a cozy farming strategy about a small Ukrainian village caught between two eras: Soviet machinery and an independent countryside on the verge of the 2000s. Ahead of you lies a run-down farm waiting for a new beginning.

Start small: an old tractor, a neglected field and limited resources. Step by step, work the land, sow the grain, bring in the harvest and gradually build a farm that runs on your decisions.
At the heart of the game are your own pace and balance. You decide which fields to work first, when to invest in new machinery and how to make the most of your time, fuel and grain. Market prices live a life of their own — and sometimes the price of grain shifts exactly when it is already in the truck bed. There are no timers pushing you and no sudden punishments — only thoughtful planning and steady, tangible progress.

Every tractor here is the one you saw in the fields as a child: the same engine, the same rattle, the same peeling paint. Maybe you even remember the moustachioed neighbour who once let you climb into the cab while he checked something under the hood — and you sat there alone like a cosmonaut in a spacecraft, studying every lever and every button.
Every machine in the game has its own character and story. And you won't be left alone with them: there is always a mechanic and mentor nearby who will advise you, and in his spare time will put together a machine that has no name in any catalogue.

Help your neighbours through contracts, unlock new opportunities and turn a small holding into a living, well-run farm.
Start small. Give the land time. And you'll see everything begin to grow.
🌾 Meditative strategy gameplay. Planning without rush and the freedom to choose your own pace.
🚜 Gradual farm growth. From a single tractor to a full holding with a large fleet and expanded buildings.
📦 A living market and resource balance. Time, fuel and harvest are all connected, and prices won't wait until you are ready.
🔧 Machines with character. Dozens of vehicles with a history — from the mechanic's homemade "masterpieces" to heavy combines.
🏭 Your own production — set up supply chains and sell finished goods for more than raw materials.
🤝 Contracts and village life. Help your neighbours and develop the region together.

Rainy Season Update — the third big demo update for The Headlands!
Hi everyone! On Monday, August 17, a big new demo update for The Headlands goes live. This will be the last major demo update before the Early Access release in September. Here's what's new since the previous demo:WeatherThe game now has real weather — clear skies, clouds, fog, rain and thunderstorms, all shifting as you play. Rain isn't just a visual: it's a free sprinkler, and watered crops grow faster. That said, you can't harvest while it's raining — you'll have to wait it out.Other tasks still run as usual, but reduced visibility makes vehicles drive a bit slower than normal, especially on dirt roads. So it's worth rolling those all-wheel-drive trucks and tractors out of the garage!Machinery repairMachinery now wears down and breaks, and Sydorovych at the service station helps with repairs. The worse the condition, the more expensive the repair — and broken machinery can't do its field jobs at all. Keeping an eye on your fleet actually matters now.New machineryThe garage has grown — 8 new tractors and one big harvester have been added. And more on the way!ProductionThe first step toward a full production cycle — a sawmill where you can make boards, and a mill where grain turns into flour. There's also a new warehouse on the farm for produced goods, and trucks have a new job: hauling goods from production buildings. This is only the beginning!A bigger mapThe farm has grown — more space, more fields, more room to work with. Including some genuinely huge fields that will need equally big machinery! The QoL improvements you asked for mostThe hottest topic of the past few months has been waiting. I already tried a skip-to-next-morning feature and removed it: the game became dry and turn-based. But now I've added faster time flow — so there's less waiting while the game still feels alive. I'm really looking forward to your feedback here, and I hope the waiting really has gotten shorter. On top of that, there's a new interface that gathers everything about the farm in one...Read full article on Community Announcements (27Oxygen25)AnnouncementsOfficial
Demo 0.12 — The Second Demo Is Here 🌾
Hi everyone!Summer is in full swing, the fields are almost ready for harvest — which means it's time for a new version of The Headlands demo.Demo 0.12 is now available on Steam. While working on this version, I thought a lot about the feeling I want the game to convey. For me, The Headlands isn't so much a farming simulator as an attempt to capture that same feeling of summer that, in childhood, always seemed longer, warmer, and more carefree.I already covered most of the changes in the previous devlog, but the new demo has something else important — a new story line. Now you'll be able to get to know the residents of Traktorivka better, help them with their everyday affairs, learn more about familiar characters, and meet a few new ones. The story gradually goes beyond a simple farm and starts to reveal the life of the village itself.I'd especially like to ask your opinion about the flow of time in the game.In some internal versions there was a time-skip, but it made the game start to feel too fast, dry, and almost turn-based. I also experimented with a faster pace of the day, but that only added a sense of rush.So I'm very curious to hear your impressions of the current pace. Does the day feel comfortable? Is there enough to do between field work? If you have ideas on how to make the waiting more interesting or natural — definitely write in the comments.Work on fuel balance also continues. If it feels like tractors consume too much fuel — or too little — let me know. Your feedback really helps find the right balance. And, as always, thank you to everyone who takes the time to play the demo, leaves comments, and shares impressions. It's thanks to your feedback that the game gets better with every version.Enjoy the game and have a great summer 🌾Read full article on Community Announcements (27Oxygen25)Patch NotesOfficial
Deeper Cultivation — a big update before the second demo
Deeper Cultivation — a big update before the second demoHi! Since you last saw The Headlands, the game has gone deeper. I called this update "Deeper Cultivation" — because while adding mechanics, I dug myself into development up to my ears. Here's what's new.Vehicles actually drive nowTractors used to just appear next to the field. Word is the local Old Soothsayer teleported them. But the Old Man moved to the city, so now the machinery drives on roads like everyone else. Most trucks now also have a special bed for carrying tractors. If the head farmer allows it — the tractor loads itself onto the platform, rides as a passenger to a distant field, and gets on with its job. The truck will pick it up from the field on its own too, if needed. It looks the way it should look in the countryside: a column of machinery crawling along a dirt road at dawn. And the fleet has grown in the meantime — 6 new trucks and a fresh tractor in the garage.20 crops, and each one has its own storyFrom buckwheat and wheat to poppy, flax, and sunflower. And now there are vegetables too — potatoes, carrots, onions, beets, garlic — with a dedicated vegetable harvester to match. Each crop has its own growth time, its own yield, and its own market price — and prices live a life of their own. You can time the moment and sell high. Or you can grow a perfect field of buckwheat right when the market crashes. Not pleasant, but true to life 😄The time of day, and that same sunriseThe sun moves across the sky now. In the morning fog settles over the fields, daylight is bright and even, and toward evening comes that same golden hour — warm low sun, long shadows, air like honey. If there's no time to wait — there's a skip to the next day. The atmosphere of a 2000s village is now in the air itself, not just in the machinery.A thousand little things you won't notice (and that's good)Most of the time went not into new mechanics, but into polishing the old ones. Field work windows now remember your choice of ma...Read full article on Community Announcements (27Oxygen25)
