About this game

This game is still in an early phase of development, so what you see is subject to change for the final release.

Riftaway is an NDS/N64-inspired 3D platformer in which you help a young witch recover her lost memories in an outter-space-like world known as... the Riftaway! Collect memory-refreshing crystals and meet unique personalities in a world where even gravity is broken.

Lost and Forgotten

Nemuri finds herself waking up in a place unknown to her, with chunks of land floating around everywhere and incapable of tracing how she arrived there or much of her past at all. While doing some research of the area she has a fateful encounter with Rico, a wandering merchant that happens to come across her, and together they discover that a strangely appeared crack in the sky has been spewing crystals with the power to restore the girl's memories. And thus, with Rico's help, the witch embarks on a huge journey to discover how the heck has she arrived in the world she's about to uncover and recover her memories.

Riftsletter 7 - Next Fest and Next Plans

Hi! I'm Vikku, or Mahou Boshi if you prefer to be official. If you stumbled onto this randomly, first, thank god the algorithms are working for me for once, and secondly, welcome! What you're currently seeing is a Devlog/Newsletter for Riftaway, a 3D platformer focused on narrative and exploration of spaces in space, and my love letter to, like, a good half of all 3D Mario games. Learn more about it here! Now let's get to business!Heya! Hope you all enjoyed Chapter 5- Wait, wrong game... Ahem, greetings once again, hopefully-more-than-usual-everyone! With Next Fest concluding I'd like to share some information on how the event went for Riftaway, as well as what my plan is going forward while I kick my gears back into action. It'll also help me focus on what to do so, let's just do it!These numbers sure are spiky- Ouch!Let's quickly get the numeric results out of the way. During next fest, nearly 400 people got to play Riftaway's demo and the game itself gathered almost 800 wishlists! To visually put things into perspective, the previously biggest spike in wishlists (The original game page release) was of just 20, nearly a fourth of the lowest day of Neft Fest, take a look for yourself!Thank you now nearly 1000 people who saw the game and decided you wanted to see more of it

    Riftsletter 6 - Demo's coming!

Now let's get to business!Hey! Sorry for the radio silence this past month, and for publishing this newsletter so close to month's end. I've been pulling that good ol' crunch we totally love in this industry for the demo, but the final build is currently being reviewed by Steam for lunch, so let's talk this month about what's been happening, what's in the demo, and what you can expect to see in the future! My silly assSo, this whole month has been spent ironing out bugs and finishing placeholder stuff, so I haven't had much time to post anything. I kinda panicked near the end since my silly ass decided to start testing a week before having to send the build for reviewing, but despite that I managed to fix everything and then some, since once again, my silly ass, failed to realize I had to send the demo's store presence first for review, so I had extra time to additionally improve on some aspects. What's cooked and what's cookingIn this upcoming demo, you'll be able to experience the whole tutorial level as well as half of the first world! The other half is still under development unfortunately, as well as the dialogue for memories and the overarching story of the place, so you'll have to wait for the game's release for that. Besides, we wouldn't want any spoilers would we? I want this demo to focus on the movement system and the environments, since I believe this core should make for something fun on it's own before it can be garnished with story and all that. This is as much a public test as it is me gathering public opinion before proceeding forward with anything, a...

Riftsletter 5 - Testing round! YOU could play it!

Now let's get to business!Welcome everyone! Hey, wait, I know you're in a rush after reading that title, but please gimme a moment to make things the right way... Fine, if you just care about that you can find the info at the last section of this post (The headers(The big bold text)). For everyone else, today I don't have many new news to share, which is, like, the point of news, so instead of doing that today I shall do this more dev-loggy and walk you through my process to make, uhh... Most things! I'll be using as example my good friend Waxtopus, my most recently done boss that you may have seen in the thumbnail.Sketching - Not this one (This is a header (The big bold text))Like most good things, every design starts on a notebook you got gifted by your previous job that's oddly empty. I used to have a proper GDD (Game Design Document, it's a Document used to Design the Game and share it around with the rest of the team), but since I don't have a team currently and simply rely on my own efforts and the good will of my closer friends to help out with some stuff here and there, I just end up doodling and writing around everything in the notepad relatively quickly. Here's for example the page for the Waxtopus, though most pages aren't nearly as organized as this one...I keep telling myself I'll be more organized and detailed once I am working with people. God I hope so..."But why do you write in English if Spanish is your native tongue" I wish I knew, genuinely, it just comes up naturally like that. Anyways, I try to come up with everything relevant, interesting and/...
