About this game
WordJoy is a puzzle game that blends Chinese character learning with solitaire-style card mechanics.
The game features more than 300 Chinese character components and over 3,000 characters. Your task is to find solutions among multiple columns of stacked component cards. Only the exposed card at the top of each column can be moved. A component with fewer strokes may only be placed on one with exactly one additional stroke. Through observation, rearrangement, and careful planning, you must gradually remove obstacles and uncover the components needed to form the target characters.
Each puzzle contains two target characters. You must move radicals and components into the target columns in the correct order, reconstructing each character by hand. The game tests logical reasoning while helping you become familiar with stroke patterns, radical structures, and the relationships between different character forms through observation, decomposition, and recombination.
There is no countdown and no pressure to earn points. Think, experiment, and retrace your steps at your own pace. When stuck, you can undo your previous move or generate a new puzzle to examine the character forms and possible movement paths from a different perspective.
As you progress, target characters will consist of more components, and card layouts will become increasingly complex. Each completed puzzle is both a victory in strategic card movement and a fresh exploration of Chinese character structure.
Discover Chinese characters through puzzles. Understand their forms through composition. Experience their beauty through quiet contemplation.

Major Update: WordJoy Is Now a Chinese Character Component Incremental Game
Hello everyone. WordJoy has received a major gameplay update. This update rebuilds the core gameplay almost entirely. The game is no longer centered around stage-based scoring on a 3x3 board. Instead, it is now a more direct and readable incremental game about Chinese character components. You buy Chinese character components, place them on a 5x5 board, and let them generate coins over time. When adjacent components can form a valid Chinese character, they upgrade into stronger and more valuable pieces.New Core GameplayBuy Chinese character componentsPlace them on a 5x5 boardComponents automatically generate coinsAdjacent components form valid Chinese characters and trigger upgradesUpgrades increase income and component valueUnlock more component choicesKeep adjusting your layout to snowball your boardThe goal of this update is to make WordJoy feel more like a lightweight incremental game: clearer growth, more immediate feedback, and an easier-to-understand core loop, while keeping the main idea of combining Chinese character components. The Board Is Now 5x5The board has been expanded to 5x5.This gives you more room to plan layouts and create character combinations. You can arrange components around adjacency, try to form more valid characters, and trigger more upgrades for higher income.Every tile matters. Sometimes, moving one component can change the entire income structure of the board.Incremental GrowthComponents are no longer just scoring tools. They now generate coins over time.Coins can be used to buy more components and unlock more choices. As you place more components, create more combinations, and trigger more upgrades, the board gradually becomes a self-growing machine powered by Chinese characters.Layout AdjustmentThe new version gives you more freedom to adjust the board:Drag to swap componentsDouble-click to delete componentsRearrange your layout at any timeFree up space for future combinationsDeleting components is mainly used to free board space. Major Update: Core Gameplay Rework Now Available
Hello everyone,WordJoy has received a major gameplay update. This update reworks the core rules and refocuses the game around a clearer loop: character-building scoring + between-stage progression. You now place Chinese character components onto a 3x3 grid, combine them into valid Chinese characters, and score through chips, multipliers, relics, and component skills. Each stage has a target score, but your number of plays is limited. Should you clear safely with a simple character, or wait for a more complex combination with a higher multiplier? Every move asks you to make a choice.Core Gameplay ReworkThe previous version focused more on board control and tile-flipping strategy. The new version returns to the heart of the game: building Chinese characters from components.Place Chinese character componentsCombine them into valid charactersPlay characters to scoreReach the target score to advanceChoose new components and relics in the shopGradually shape your own character-building strategyChinese characters are no longer just answers. They are your scoring resources, build direction, and strategic core.New Scoring SystemEach play is scored through component chips and multipliers.Components provide base chips. Character structure affects multipliers. Relics and skills further modify final score.A simple character can help you progress safely, while a complex multi-component character may become key to a high-scoring burst. When situation feels unfavorable, you can also use reroll and discard actions to adjust your options and search for a better next play.Between-Stage Builds and ShopAfter each cleared stage, you enter the shop and choose new components or relics.Different components affect which characters you can build. Different relics change how you score. Different skills create new synergy paths. As stages progress, your deck gradually grows from basic components into a build with its own rhythm and direction. Why This Update? The original idea behind WordJoy was si...Read full article on Community Announcements (yiyu)AnnouncementsOfficial
WordJoy is now officially released!
Hello everyone, I’m the developer of WordJoy.Why did I make this game?I’ve always felt that Chinese characters have a kind of built-in “system” to them:Components combine togetherStructures define relationshipsMeanings evolve through compositionSo I wanted to try something:What would happen if the structure of Chinese characters itself became the core game mechanic?WordJoy is that experiment.Game FeaturesCharacters as Mechanics: Combine components to form real Chinese characters that directly affect the boardStrategic Gameplay: Flip tiles to control the overall situationDiverse Combinations: Different components create different characters and effectsSkill System: Forming characters triggers abilities and adds dynamic changesAbout the Current VersionThis is my first indie game. It’s not very large in scope, but the core gameplay is complete. If you feel that:Something isn’t clearSome rules could be improvedOr you simply found parts fun (or not fun)I’d really appreciate your feedback.I’ll continue updating and improving the game.A Small RequestIf you enjoy the game, I’d be very grateful if you could leave a review — it truly means a lot to an indie developer.Thank you for taking the time to read this.I hope you can find a bit of joy in “playing with characters” in WordJoy.Read full article on Community Announcements (yiyu)
