Atmosphere Lies in the DetailsHello, Hikers! One of the most important aspects of creating a believable and tense atmosphere comes down to something players might not even consciously notice – the sensations experienced when firing a weapon, reloading it, dressing a wound or eating tinned food. We've paid particular attention to the quality of the animations, striving to make every action as realistic and believable as possible.Today, we'd like to share some details about how these moments are created, which are what make the game feel so realistic.Take a look behind the scenes – from early renders during development to the final results running on Unreal Engine 5. Let us know what you think.

Hello, Hikers! The forest never sleeps. Whilst you're building a fire and counting the steps to the nearest shelter, something out there, amongst the trees, is changing too. It's becoming smarter. Hungrier. Here's the latest on the forest's inhabitants. BARKERSNew type: Night BarkersAs the sun sets, creatures previously unseen appear in the forest. Night Barkers are more resilient than their kin and only come out to hunt under the cover of darkness – at dawn, they vanish without a trace back into their lairs, as if they had never been there. They're easy to spot – and you'd be wise to spot them from a distance. They bear the bones and skulls of those who failed to escape. Ordinary Barkers are no longer afraid of daylight either – they now roam by day, and don't flee at dawn. There's no longer a safe time of day. New Abilities– Grapple. If your health drops below 40%, the Barker will use this against you: it grabs hold and sinks its teeth into your arm. Your only chance is to fight it off whilst you still have the strength. Press LMB. – Finish. If you're down, the Barker won't let it go unnoticed. You've survived the day. The night hasn't started yet.

Expedition Map Hellо, Hikers! We’re continuing our series on the shelter and its features, and today we’ll be talking about what lies beyond its walls. The world of Deadhikers has expanded: an expedition map is now available in the shelter, allowing you to choose the direction for your next adventure. At present, several locations in Canada and the US are available to explore, and further expansion of the map is planned for future updates. As you progress through these areas, the world around you will change, the shelter itself will transform, and new opportunities and locations will be unlocked. In the future, we plan to add even more unique and dangerous routes. Before taking your first step outside, you’ll need to choose a difficulty level. This determines just how hostile nature and those lurking in the mist will be:Normal: a relatively forgiving mode. You can see your location on the map, there are plenty of supplies around, and hunger and thirst don’t take their toll too quickly.Hard: a challenge for experienced hikers. You will no longer see your location on the map; you’ll have to navigate blind. Resources will be scarcer, your needs will grow faster, and the monsters will become more brutal and tougher.Very Hard: a pure survival simulator. The map is useless, loot is catastrophically scarce, your hunger and thirst levels are dropping before your eyes, and any encounter with monsters, which have become incredibly resilient and deadly, will most likely be your last. Check your kit, work out your supplies and choose your route wisely. This forest rarely forgives mistakes.See you on the trail!
