Navigate through three short horror stories, deciding what's real and what's imagined. Experience the protagonist’s perspective in this free-to-play indie adventure from MediaTale.

About this game

Tales of Fear is a first-person horror adventure featuring playable retellings of various horror stories. Some of them are fictional, while others are based on real events, and it's up to you to figure out which ones are true.

Take on the role of the protagonist in each narrative and experience unique stories. Explore immersive, handcrafted locations on your own and encounter some frightening surprises along the way.

Case 01 - Enfield Encounter

Patrick McKelvy's relaxed evening turns out to be a dangerous nightmare that he is forced to endure while fearing for his life. He encounters a creature that does not exist in any history book and causes great chaos in his city.

Case 02 - Alice and Bob

An employee of a large tech company takes on a night shift with his colleague that will haunt him for a long time afterward. An experiment in artificial intelligence is supposed to take the company to the next level. When his coworker suddenly has an emergency, he is left alone with the experiment. It goes well, too well, until he loses control of the AI models.

Case 03 - Doai Station

Kaito, a freelance journalist chasing a rumor at Mount Tanigawa, decides to take the last train home. As the train arrives, he is on the phone with his brother, Haru, when the connection suddenly breaks. While waiting for Kaito's arrival, Haru becomes anxious, only to find out that the last train from Doai Station had already left hours before the phone call.

Tales of Fear - Episode Zero OUT NOW!

Hello everyone! The time has finally come: after about 10 months of development, the first episode of Tales of Fear is finally available! As previously announced, the first episode (actually Episode Zero) is free for everyone. We’d like to get as much feedback as possible with this new concept, so please feel free to let us know what you think here on Steam or on our Discord server as usual. We read every single opinion, and your feedback is essential for the future development of Tales of Fear. The first episode includes 3 different chapters with a total playtime of about one hour and a half hours. Each chapter differs significantly in atmosphere and gameplay. What makes this special is that at least one story is true, and it's up to you to figure out which one. After each episode, you can decide whether you think the story is true. Then you can see how people around the world voted on the story. Whats next? Your feedback shapes the future of Tales of Fear. We’ve learned a lot during development and aim to make the next episode, which will be a paid release, even bigger and better. We thank you in advance for playing Tales of Fear and hope you have lots of fun playing the game! If you enjoyed it and would like to support us, feel free to check out our other games: https://store.steampowered.com/developer/mediatale

    Release Date Announcement

Hello everyone! It’s been quite a while now that we’ve been able to work intensively on Tales of Fear Episode Zero. Development on all three cases is complete, and we’re currently in the fine-tuning phase and on the hunt for bugs. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45872404/11269da4391d330c9258835d6f2bf9d557e837d8.jpg As previously announced, the first episode of Tales of Fear will be available completely free of charge. On September 1, 2026, you’ll be able to dive into all three cases yourself and search for the truth. All three cases will feel very different in terms of atmosphere and gameplay, and we’re currently estimating about one and a half hours of playtime. June Devlog

Hello everyone! In this update, we’ll give you a glimpse into the development of Tales of Fear and our small indie game studio in general. We’ve finished Case 02: Alice & Bob and are currently working on the third and final chapter Case 03: Enfield Encounter. We’ve noticed that some parts need a bit more “depth,” so we’re constantly making improvements, both in our planning for the third chapter and in the two existing chapters. We’ve completed the planning phase and are now working on the development itself. This means that even players who have already played the demo featuring the first chapter will have new things to discover. We still plan to release Tales of Fear for free as an introduction to this series. Case 02: Alice & Bob {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45872404/227792005cafe4ef31600c1ec51340cf4ca451e7.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45872404/bfc429a7abe3fa7ad51448900fbc86a674b70ed4.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45872404/44007685f0e356a4149ed3de1486abdc53f2393d.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45872404/492716c061c349d44b1564344b3ea835d92a3b58.png Case 03: Enfield Encounter Unlike the first two chapters, the third one will most likely be bigger and therefore longer. The mechanics will also be quite different. We’ll try to incorporate as much variety as possible into each upcoming chapter, not just in terms of the story, but also the mechanics, atmosphere, and more. As of now, we can't give you an exact release date for Tales of Fear, but as soon as we have more news, we'll let you know right away. More about our indie game studio: We've been working really hard over the past few weeks. We participated in a game jam and released Murder Castle as a demo. After that, we worked on a major update for our previous title, Midnight Heist. We haven’t released any updates since its launch, and we want to continue supporting this title as much as possible. And last but not least, we developed a brand-new prototype called Sender Unknown and released it as a demo. We believe it has tremendous potential. As ...
