In Shadowstone, strategize and adapt as you lead your team through perilous levels, combining unique abilities to survive. Play solo or with up to three friends, unlocking new strategies with each run.
About this game
Awakened within a shifting labyrinth, you and your fellow heroes must survive a brutal gauntlet of monsters and magic. Watched by an arcane entity known only as The Eye, you will fall, rise, and grow stronger with every attempt. Can you forge a party powerful enough to escape?
Shadowstone is a tactical roguelite built around what your heroes can do together. Every ability sets up someone else's, so a run is won by the combinations you find.

Take command of multiple heroes solo, or band together with up to 4 players in online multiplayer. Mastering the strengths and weaknesses of different party compositions is what keeps you alive against the horrors shrouded in shadowstone power.

Deliberate positioning and manipulation of elements in each encounter is core to the turn-based tactical gameplay of Shadowstone. Survival hinges on utilizing your hero's unique skills such as using the Witch's ability to duplicate healing and exploding mushrooms or the Berserker's charge to displace enemies into dangerous lava.

Build overpowered synergies by upgrading and selecting complementary spells across your heroes. Execute complex multi-hero ability combinations to devastate enemy monsters, whether you command the party yourself or split it with friends. Build your party of 2 to 4 heroes from a roster of 8 at launch.

Each escape attempt from the labyrinth throws a different set of rooms and monsters at you. Adapt your strategy every run through an evolving pool of skill cards, talismans, and potions, and balance the light against the dark: powerful rituals against the creeping corruption of the shadowstone. Leaning into the darkness makes your party stronger, but the corruption stays with you.

This one is not in the game yet, but it is where we want to take it. We started Secret Door to build a new way to play games together: allowing players to use their phones to control the action while the game plays out on the main screen, so they can be physically together in person. Our first game, Sunderfolk, was built that way, and our intention is to bring it to Shadowstone. It will not be there at Early Access launch, because building with a single control set lets us iterate much faster. Couch co-op is planned as we move from Early Access toward 1.0. Until then, Shadowstone plays with mouse and keyboard.
Build the party. Find the combination. Escape the labyrinth.

Hello once again, Shadowstoners… Our latest update, Patch 0.8.0, has not only brought new enemies, new rituals, and updated boss mechanics, but two new heroes for your next experiments: The Rogue and the Assassin. Check out the path of creation for these two stealthy additions, straight from the team who made them. Origins Happy Accidents? In the early days of Shadowstone, once a darker tone was established, it was decided that Sunderfolk heroes would get an edgy makeover for Shadowstone. The Rogue was one such hero that would undergo a transformation into an Assassin; a class change, a promotion, if you will. There was no plan to also have a Rogue class as well. But Fate had other plans. Our Hero design lead set to work crafting the Assassin, but in their creative fervor they ended up crafting three different ability kits for a single character. The third time’s the charm, and with the third kit, the abilities were distinctly assassin-y. As for the first kit, it was more suited for a Rogue, which meant the Rogue could slink from the shadows into Shadowstone. After all, in Shadowstone, as with every run, we embrace happy accidents. What happened to the second kit, you ask? It was Butchered, of course. The RogueSeparating from their Sunderfolk counterpartMaking the Rogue play differently from their Sunderfolk counterpart was top of mind when adapting the class for Shadowstone. In Sunderfolk, the Rogue was very executionally complex and extremely reliant on their Shroud ability, leading to a feast or famine playstyle that was often very single-player focused. We wanted to ensure that Shadowstone’s Rogue would be less constrained but also more team reliant so they weren’t always distancing to use Shroud. Now the Rogue can reliably proc their passive damage by working with their team to debuff enemies or buff themself before attacking, and Dodge is their tangible reward for working together. This allows for the Rogue to be less binary, have higher survivability, and of...Read full article on Community Announcements (Glaicee)Patch NotesOfficial

Shadowstone 0.8.0 Update
What’s NewNew HeroesThe RogueThe Rogue sneaks their way into Shadowstone as an unlockable character! The Rogue is a single-target damage dealer who excels with set-up from their team. They’ve received a new passive that allows them to deal extra damage and generate Dodge for themselves if they attack a target with a debuff, or if the Rogue has a buff; just like a traditional Rogue, they always want to attack with an advantage! Rogue also introduces a new way to interact with Status Effects: Theft! Through different spell cards, Rogue can steal buffs from any other character, as well as copy their own buffs onto an ally. Use them to disrupt the enemy’s plan or help share the love across your team. Start thinking of Buffs as money, and any good Rogue must make bank! Smart set-up from other heroes will help unleash the incredibly high damage potential of the Rogue, but a Rogue going it alone might end up going broke. Take the Rogue into the dungeon; we can’t wait to hear about your heist! The AssassinThe Assassin is ready for their next job... Unlock them by playing with Rogue.Similar to the Rogue, the Assassin is a single-target damage dealer, but they play on the knife's edge. Their game plan is to kill Bounties, and they accumulate permanent strength through the run depending on how many Bounties they've claimed. They boast very high damage, especially against wounded targets, but have few defensive tools. The Assassin will need to rely on their teammates for help. Work with your party; identify the target, weaken them, and cull them with the Assassin. The Assassin rewards coordinated, calculated play: hunt down your bounties, gain your power, then escape. If an Assassin kills a target, they can teleport back to their starting hex that turn. Get in, get out.Due to their link with Rogue, Assassin has access to several Rogue Spell cards in addition to their own, and vice-versa. You can use these Spells to open up new ways to play for both Heroes; Dodge for the Assassin...Read full article on Community Announcements (Glaicee)AnnouncementsOfficial
