Simulation, Strategy · 2026 · More free games
Lead the charge as you command the PLA in Crimson Banner: War of Liberation, a turn-based strategy game where every battle shapes China's liberation.
About this game
Crimson Banner: War of Liberation places you in command of the People's Liberation Army as it fights across the length and breadth of China during the all-out Liberation War. Starting from the Central Plains Breakout in 1946, you will employ your command skills to tenaciously defend against and ultimately shatter the Nationalists' full-scale offensive. Then, in the decisive three great campaigns, you will turn the tide and annihilate the main forces of the Nationalist army. Finally, cross the Yangtze River and liberate all of China!
The gameplay framework of this title is built upon the excellent entry-level war chess game series "Unity of Command" and has been deeply adapted and improved upon. If you are a player who seeks historical authenticity and hardcore strategy, this work, crafted from a Chinese perspective, is precisely prepared for you!

Chinese Perspective – A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire
For the first time in a strategy wargame released on Steam, you will experience the magnificent and epic-scale People's War of Liberation. Rally hundreds of millions of workers and peasants, and sweep the decadent Nationalist reactionaries into the dustbin of history!
Infantry Art – Besiege the Enemy to Strike at His Reinforcements, Long-Range Raids
You will command this most elite light infantry force in human history. Make full use of their flexible mobility and their tenacious spirit that fears no sacrifice. Lure the stubborn enemy out in mobile warfare, then cut them off and annihilate them piece by piece. Though your equipment is often inferior to that of a formidable foe, you still have the opportunity to defeat them with agile tactics.
Progression System – Equip Yourself by Capturing Enemy Supplies
Throughout the long war, the soldiers under your command will grow stronger with each battle. Capture equipment from defeated enemies and absorb liberated soldiers who have turned from darkness to light. You will train inexperienced recruits into battle-hardened elites, transforming them into a vital force in the struggle to liberate all of China.
Irreversible Decisions – Decisive Command, No Regrets
Every command decision you make is critical. Many actions cannot be undone (such as revealing the fog of war, initiating attacks, etc.). You must have the courage to act and bear the consequences of your choices.
Logistics & Supply – Ammunition Before Cannon, Food Before March
You cannot focus solely on the frontline. You must also manage your logistics and supply lines, protect your own supplies, and sever those of the enemy. Units cut off from supply will gradually weaken and falter. Exploit this to adjust your strategies and secure your victory.
Fog of War – All Warfare is Based on Deception
Unlike tabletop wargames, digital games grant us the ability to implement a dynamic fog of war system. You can no longer see the entire battlefield from a god's perspective. You must rely solely on the intelligence and information available to make the soundest judgments. Of course, your enemy is not omniscient either; they will struggle to detect your movements in the shadows.
A Clever AI – Lurking Danger, Striking at Every Opening
Our AI is well-versed in the art of war. It will set ambushes using the fog of war, exploit weaknesses in your logistics to drive deep into your territory, and concentrate its forces for a breakthrough when your units are dispersed. You must remain vigilant at all times, for the enemy is constantly searching for your vulnerabilities. Of course, our AI will also adhere to historical logic as much as possible. If you are familiar with the history of these campaigns, you will find it easier to achieve victory!

This is the third full campaign released for Crimson Banner: War of Liberation. steamhappyA Lone Withdrawal, A New BattlefieldAfter victory in the War of Resistance, the situation in the Zhedong base area changed abruptly. Facing pursuit and blockade by Nationalist forces, the New Fourth Army’s Zhedong Column must withdraw north across the bay, seeking a path to survival among narrow landing sites, coastal towns, hills, and mountains. This is not a grand army campaign, but a short, tense, and oppressive breakout operation. Every move, every attack, and every withdrawal route may decide whether your troops can escape the encirclement. Two Complete Scenarios, Compact and FocusedHuangwan Landing — The Zhedong Column lands on the northern shore of Hangzhou Bay, only to encounter enemy pursuit during reconnaissance, while efforts to receive friendly troops take an unexpected turn.Ganpu Breakout — The second landing echelon, eager to support friendly forces, stumbles into an encirclement. As the noose tightens, concentrate your limited strength, open a breach, break through the blockade, and escape. A Distinct Breakout ExperienceZhedong Column’s Northward Withdrawal is not built around massive campaign scale. Instead, it aims to deliver tighter tactical pressure. Your forces are limited, your room to maneuver is narrow, and enemy pressure will keep closing in. New Campaign Available: The Tianmu Mountain Campaign
Four new mountain scenarios in western Zhejiang, 1945. Su Yu's outnumbered New Fourth Army faces massed assaults by KMT diehard forces. Defeat them in detail among the peaks — or be crushed. Endless Peaks, an Entirely New BattlefieldSay goodbye to the flat, waterway-laced plains of Central Jiangsu and push into the rugged mountains of western Zhejiang. Here, dense forests cloak towering ridgelines and every hex of movement must be carefully weighed. The supply hardships imposed by mountain terrain will force you to rethink the tempo of operations entirely — the placement of supply hubs, the allocation of carried rations, and control of river crossings will all make or break your campaign. Four Complete Scenarios, Escalating Step by StepFirst Anti-Insurgency Battle of Tianmu Mountain — Ambushed by diehard forces as you push east, you must stabilize the line, then wheel back to relieve your comrades and seize the gateway to Xiaofeng.Second Anti-Insurgency Battle of Tianmu Mountain — Facing a pincer offensive of 12 regiments advancing in 4 columns, concentrate your forces to crush one prong at a time. The Battle of Xindeng — Contest the vital Fuchun River crossing. Liberate the town of Xindeng, then lure the enemy deep with a deliberate withdrawal.Decisive Battle of Xiaofeng — 20,000 against 75,000. Delay the eastern prong and smash the western one, then wheel east to finish the job. Avenge the martyrs of the New Fourth Army Incident.A Radically Different Tactical ExperienceThe Central Jiangsu Campaign taught you how to exploit river networks for rapid maneuvering across open plains. Tianmu Mountain will test an entirely different skill set — how to move stealthily through broken terrain, how to sustain combat power when supply lines are stretched to breaking point, and how to create local superiority from overall inferiority. Su Yu's masterful "defeat in detail" doctrine is on full display here. Furthermore, this campaign features a finer unit/time/map scale than Centr...Read full article on Community Announcements (hjf98)AnnouncementsOfficial
