Navigate through challenging levels in Ogre Dungeon, an indie RPG from Durance Gaming that blends simple, classic gameplay with strategic depth. Perfect for those who enjoy straightforward, pick-up-and-play adventures.

About this game

Ogre Dungeon is a retro 2D Rogue-like for PC & Android designed to be simple, classic, and straight-forward for pick-up-and-play.

Choose your character and brave the dangers of dark and forgotten places in search of the ultimate treasure. Level up and increase your power as you descend each level of the increasingly hostile dungeon, then escape alive to claim your fortune and earn your character's name. The consequences of failure are irredeemable.

Stay alive. Your adventure only ends with victory or defeat. All saved progress is wiped upon character death. It isn't all doom an gloom, though. Your next character will stand to inherit your previous character's gold.

When you beat the game, your behavior during the run is analyzed, and your character shall earn their name--etched into the high scores. As development continues, these scores will eventually be hosted online for all to see, so adventurers may boast of their character's deeds!
(but the game itself is single player, no internet connection required)

Currently, dungeon floors use an eclectic mix of hand crafting, semi-randomization, and procedural generation to help create unique experiences for each new game. However, this game is designed to be linear and is more focused towards pick-up-and-play, start to finish, rather than sandbox game play. This won't be a game you play forever. It is designed to be an experience that begins and ends, for the player's enjoyment, and then frees the player to move on. In this sense, both the game play and style are very retro. Almost arcade-like.

    Dungeon Generator Update

Early Access update here! The dungeon's random generator is now active. But it's not the plain old procedural generator from the YouTube video a few months back. After tinkering with some different random level generators on Unity I thought, what's stopping me from doing something like this with Ogre Dungeon? Turns out, nothing was stopping me. So I wrote a custom dungeon generator based on my experience with Unity. Somebody somewhere probably already did this but me, I'm calling it the "stamp generator" because it works a little bit like a paper stamp. Where you plugin the new script, the next floor is generated procedurally... New Dungeon Generator: Procedural Paperstamp? When a new game starts, a pool of 25x25 tile small maps get generated. Then, another pool of bigger maps is generated. The game takes the first pool of small maps, shuffles them, and then randomly combines them into larger grids. So the second pool of maps generate as 75x75 tile maps with a random assortment of 9 small maps in a 3x3 grid... I hope that makes sense. So, effectively, you are stamping 9 smaller randomized maps onto 1 larger map to create one randomly generated floor of the dungeon. Each smaller map has it's own randomization processes within the overall floor map's processes. I'm excited to see how this plays out in terms of replay value and unique runs. Updates & Changes to Game Mechanics - Ogre Dungeon was originally designed to be pretty dire and hardcore but it just so happens that it seems to be attracting a much more casual-friendly player base. I mean, in reality there's no reason I can't take all the hardcore stuff that's already there and tag it as it's own game mode to let players really stretch their legs and just enjoy the game. So that's something I have been working on. At the character creation screen, there is a new toggle option for "hard mode + permadeath". - I suddenly realized during testing that there was no way to easily close out the game. This has been fixed ...

    Early Acces Update #01

The first of many updates for Ogre Dungeon's Early Access period as we approach official release. A couple minor bug fixes and some new changes thanks to some of the great feedback we've gotten so far. The "Hardcore" game mode (perma-death) has been temporarily deactivated so we can move on to stress testing the game's "Regular" gameplay mode. When the player's character dies, they will automatically load back at the last checkpoint or save location. For this "Regular" mode, the player can change characters at their room in town. The character Skill Tree has been activated. Each level up will grant skill points to spend on powering up your characters. The dungeon map has been activated. Players can now see a map of the current floor whenever they are not in town. Visual indicators have been added to many of the dungeon's common intractable objects. They will fade in and out of view depending on how far away the player is. A small options screen has been added in for players who wish to mute or adjust the game's audio. Simply press X or ESC on the keyboard and use your mouse to click what you like. Thank you so much to everyone who grabbed a copy and showed their support! And a big thanks for the feedback so far! Stay tuned for the next update as we move through Early Access. o/
