SUGA Progress Update & Minor fixes announcement #4
What's Happened?Hello all, main dev here for the first time, usually these posts are carried out by Mr Artist.SUGA's development became somewhat stagnant a couple of months after the last regular announcement owing to me beginning university, which ended up taking a lot more of my time than initially expected. Additionally, I've been suffering a degree of burnout on this project thanks to a few bugs being extraordinarily stubborn, alongside the increased complexity of a multiplayer game.SUGA development is back on now however, with some good progress since returning. What's New?- Floorboards have now got an independent placement and removal system to prevent interference issues with other buildable structures.- The core of the build system is now finished, including placement, destruction and the usage and return of materials- Added player character customisation allowing the recolouring of Bill's clothing and skin. This will be expanded to different clothing much later in development- Added in-game text chatBug Fixes- Fixed texture issues with doors- Rewrote the natural structure generation code fixing trees spawning inside each other- Thanks to the new floorboard system, floorboards now no longer cause quantum superposition of buildables both existing and not existing at the same time, which understandably crashed the game Known Bugs- Some sound effects currently play for all players when they should only play for the local player- Hot-joining has been disabled as players spawn in without any player object- Players sometimes spawn in glitched inside treesRead full article on Community Announcements (SeXtant)Patch NotesOfficial
Minor fixes announcement #3
What's New? Hello! Yes, SUGA is still alive and going.. We recently celebrated the birthday of myself and SFred, so have been busy with that, and with general life stuff, however, notable ongoing developments are as follows: - We are working to fix the issue with floorboards breaking anything placed on top of them, and so floorboards are temporarily unavailable while we fix this issue. Notably causes issues with crafting table tiles when placed on top of floorboards, not so much with other buildables. - We are also working to fix a minor issue where trees came sometimes spawn inside of each other, and therefore be somewhat broken. This shouldn't (theoretically) be too difficult to fix, which means it definitely will, and will involve gutting the game down to the core (probably). - We are also also working on fixing the door texture, as it's seemingly missing it's borders due to an overlay issue, easy stuff, we should be able to enjoy nice looking functioning doors again soon. - Added working beds, and sleeping mechanic, yipee! - Added a crafting menu which allows you to craft basic items Work on SUGA is very hit and miss at the minute due to SFred being in Uni, and so unable to quite commit as much time to SUGA as previously, which means game development is slow. We are however still chipping away at the list of things to do, and we appreciate your ongoing support and interest in this time, from all 4 people that know about / are interested in this game. What's Next?Other than fixing the issues previously mentioned, expect some new builds coming out at some point in future with whatever we end up doing, as we don't currently know what it'll be or when especially due to the staggered development it is currently undergoing.Read full article on Community Announcements (Britannia 303)Patch NotesOfficial
Minor fixes announcement #2
What's New?The Build system is still under development, but is now larger than previously, slightly, many new things are still in the pipeline regarding the build system, we hope to show it off at some point soon. Other new things include:Added the crafting bench, which allows you to craft things (currently just the sword and Multitool) Due to this, you no longer start with the wooden sword item. It should be of course noted that the crafting bench interface is quite primitive and will need further development down the line, but at the moment we're prioritising functionality over nice looking menus. Added a basic day / night cycle, and a counter to count how many in-game days there have been. There is also now a clock in the centre of the HUD to display the time, just like in the original development of SUGA (pre-Multiplayer)Added a small co-ordinate thing at the bottom so you don't lose where your house was in the infinitely-generate abyss(In relation to the first point) Added buildable floorboards, which are cool Notable Things to Mention: The image attached is pre-addition of the actual clock texture, sorry, just realised this now The building in that image is the current record holder for largest singular construction by a singular player, that is, as of 14/12/2025 12:41am. Bug Fixes: Fixed a bug where only the host could pick things upFixed the bug that resulted from the fixing of the previous bug, which now meant only anyone but the host could pick things upFixed the bug where nobody could pick things up (can you guess how this happened?)Fixed the bug where people couldn't craft thingsFixed a re-occurring issue where clicking the crafting table just disconnected peopleFixed more issues regarding layeringRead full article on Community Announcements (Britannia 303)Patch NotesOfficial
Minor fixes announcement #1
What's New?The build system is coming along nicely, with a working mini-menu now usable by pressing 'B' (default Key, we do not yet have configurable key binds). It is currently somewhat limited in what you can make, as you can currently build walls and a crafting bench (crafting interface is incomplete, so this is largely just for testing purposes)Added a basic inventory crafting system, allowing players to convert logs into planks, whether this will continue or be replaced by the main crafting interface is not yet decided though we will likely keep it how it is for at least a few updates. What's Next?Stay tuned and find out! SUGA is an early-access game and so the game, the gameplay, and the game's appearances / mechanics are likely to change very rapidly over the coming period, it should be noted that as an indie development with no / very limited external support we are doing the best we can with what we have. Bug Fixes: Fixed an issue where interacting with the crafting bench caused players to disconnectFixed an issue where player's could hear other player's interaction sounds with certain buildable objectFixed an issue where certain text from interactions was displayed to all players instead of just oneFixed various issues regarding layeringFixed various issues relating to trees, and walls, and their generation and placementFixed an issue where hitting a tree would break a different one randomly and not the one you hitFixed "Host Lobby" button not working after disconnecting from a serverFixed issues regarding the combat system, namely players not taking damage when attacked, or animations not working properly. Fixed issues with hunger occurring too fast or not happening at allRead full article on Community Announcements (Britannia 303)
