WHAT MAKES ASTEROGUE DIFFERENT
Asterogue is a traditional roguelike, not a roguelite. It focuses on the core loop that made Rogue great: explore, fight, loot, die, learn, repeat. No meta-progression, no permanent upgrades between runs - just pure skill and knowledge.
The game is deliberately minimal. You won't find kitchen-sink complexity here. Instead, Asterogue offers carefully tuned mechanics with juicy animations and game-feel that make every action satisfying.
STORY
One thousand years of peace have ended. You lost everything in The Great War. An old man in a dive bar tells of ancient aliens who returned to drain all goodness from the galaxy into their Cursed Orb. He sketches a map on a napkin and vanishes. Days later, you crash-land on an asteroid. Faced with death on the surface or the unknown within, you descend into the heart of the asteroid...
ABOUT THE DEVELOPER
Asterogue is a solo indie game made by a developer who grew up on Nethack and Rogue. It was builtas a love letter to the roguelike genre, focusing on what makes these games timeless: procedural generation, meaningful choices, and the thrill of permadeath.

Update: One-Handed Play, Smart Inventory & Item Dropping
Hey all! This update brings Quality of Life improvements focused on controls, accessibility, and inventory management based on your recent feedback.100% One-Handed Play & New Keybinds - Several people have requested more keyboard control options, so I've added support for several common key maps, including WASD and HJKL, and mapped Num5 as a dedicated 'rest' key. To make things as efficient as possible, I've also added duplicate hotkeys clustered near each of these layouts. This means you can now comfortably play the whole game using only one hand, regardless of which layout you prefer!Context-Dependent Inventory - Desktop players pointed out that it felt weird for the inventory to close after every single item use. So now on desktop the inventory will now stay open while you manage your gear. On the Steam Deck, the inventory will still auto-close after use. This is because the joystick is shared between moving the player and navigating the item grid. I'm considering adding shoulder-button navigation for the inventory so we can keep it open for gamepad players, so if you're a Steam Deck player please let me know your opinion in the comments!Proper Item Dropping You can now drop items directly back into the game world! Getting the logic right for serializing dropped items into save files and handling all the edge cases was a bit fiddly under the hood, but it is fully implemented and working smoothly. Thanks as always for the feedback. Let me know what you think of the new inventory and control tweaks in the comments or what ever forum you use.Read full article on Community Announcements (mccrmx)
