Explore abandoned stations and fend off android servants in NoRail, an action-packed indie adventure where your choices shape the journey.

About this game

Step aboard a space train looping a dead sun in the EXO 15 System. Stop at abandoned waystations for supplies to build the perfect loadout. Fail to reach the front in time, and a great being will send you back to the beginning—loop after loop.

You’ll step into the role of the sole human operator on the train, tasked with caring for a shipment of Robotic Assisted Technology Servants (RATS). But whatever destroyed this solar system is spreading through them—and through the train itself. As the RATS turn hostile and the cars warp beyond recognition, you’ll have to fight, adapt, and uncover the truth behind the cataclysm that left EXO-15 in ruin.

Each run will take you closer to the front- and whatever might be there.

This includes:Implementing grenadesRefining Enemy SpawningContinuing to work on BuffsLevel and Environment WorkWe've begun to really dive into environment art this sprint and how we'll move it forward. Currently the majority of textures and assets are placeholders that we'll update with in-house assets where possible, and pre-made where not!Level work also includes creating puzzles for the train station levels, as well as the foundations of audio logs that will give a narrative drip to the player!Above you see some of the level design at work and key objects in the process of being created. And here is some pretty shots of our Environment Work!Characters and EnemiesWe have continued to make progress on the enemies with different variations, animation work, and making progress writing dialogue and reviewing auditions for voice actors!

    Devlog 5: Pre-Beta

Environment Art PlanningWith the foundations of our game laid out, we are able to move on to the making the game look great! Our environment artists used place holder assets to give a feel to the game, while also giving us an idea of the workload required. This helped us reach the decision to use handmade assets where possible, and pre-made assets where necessary!Character and Enemy WorkWe've worked on the character more, both visually and mechanically. Players can now go prone, which will play a role in puzzles found at the stations. Additionally, we are wrapping up weapon visuals! When it comes to enemies, we have begun to work on them. As you can see, they're coming out great! We've also added long range version in the game.MiscellaneousNarrative and DialogueWe have laid out the narrative foundations and "lore" for our game, and have moved on to creating dialogue for the character, PA Systems, and Audio Logs to bring that world to life! We have had around 20 auditions for various roles, and will hopefully have some audio samples to share here shortly!VFXMore VFX updates! We have a grenade explosion and even more important: The Blackhole! This is what the entire game orbits around, so we are excited with how it came out!Finalized LogoWe have are final Logo! Now we just need to update everything....The RestThere's been a lot of other stuff as well! Pipeline Planning, behind the scenes work with engineering, and designing!

Game LoopWe worked on getting our game loop together. Now the player is able to navigate to generated train cars, fight enemies, and get off to explore the station!InventoryMost of the work done for the inventory is backend. Keeping track of various pick ups and the like. We were also able to work on UI for the inventory for when we are ready to tie the two together.MiscellaneousCollaborationTheater DepartmentWe started to collaborate with the Theater Department for voice acting and mocap work! This included creating actor/character documentation and some sample dialogue. We will hopefully be having auditions soon!History ConsultantAdditionally, a student in the Games Program has a bachelors in History, and volunteered to help consult on the narrative. It’s been very helpful so far in creating an identity for the world (or solar system) of NoRail!Gun StuffWe added more VFX and have a finalized Pistol model!Logo WorkWe got some Logo Concepts from one of our artists, and started to hone in on what we like! The two with circles are our most popular!ProductionMore documentation! Including marketing/competitor, credits, art docs, etc.Submitted Steam Page for ApprovalFinalized General Narrative
