About this game

Character Limit is a fast-paced word puzzle game that blends arcade speed and time pressure with wordplay.

12 Letters. No Mercy.

How many words until you reach your Character Limit?

Letters keep dropping. Time keeps ticking.

Quick thinking and quick typing are the only things standing between you and total linguistic collapse.

You’ve got twelve spaces - your Character Limit - and a never-ending supply of letters waiting to overwhelm you.

Form words to clear space, score points, and survive as long as possible in this fast-paced, arcade-style typing puzzle.

It’s simple… until it’s not.

Don’t Fill The Rack

That’s the golden rule.

Once every slot is full and the countdown ends, the game’s over, and it always sneaks up faster than you think.

Number Go Up

Every round is a battle against your own hesitation. Shorter words make space but score poorly. Longer words score higher, especially if you use a hard letter.

Do you gamble on a long word for a huge score, or play safe before the next letter drops?

There’s no right answer. Only speed, instinct, and a growing sense that maybe you don’t know English as well as you thought.

Features

  • 12 Letters. No Mercy. A constant stream of tiles testing your reflexes, focus, and vocabulary.

  • Multiple Game Modes: Endless, Empty the Bag, and extra challenges.  Each a unique time-attack survival puzzle with its own flavour of stress.

  • Daily Challenge: One round for everyone, one chance to be the best in the world.

  • Power-Ups: Clear vowels, shift the rack, or throw in a wildcard to save yourself.

  • Clean and Tactile: No clutter, no filler. Just crisp visuals, punchy feedback, and satisfying flow.

  • Built for Keyboard, Mouse, or Touchscreen: Type, click, or if you’re fancy, touch your way to survival.

  • Welsh Language Mode: Because developing an English language word game was too easy…

    Patch 1.01 [Ack!]

The launch was fast-paced and our first time, so mistakes were made. Sorry about that. Cue our first ever patch for a game. Patch Notes version 1.01Fixed both 10 Second Tango modes because they were both doing Bag Picking when one wasn't meant to do that. It was a config file error (no limits applied to one which have now been applied...)Fixed Empty the Bag modes so that they terminate properly. This does not affect Daily Play, which worked fine from the outset. As a result, the Empty the Bag leaderboards will be reset due to being able to play with WAY MORE tiles than should've been available. Stats: Some labels were not appearing right. They have been corrected. If you find any issues, feel free to get in contact with us about them. It'll cause Malcolm to cry, but all in the name of making the game better. Thanks for your attention, and sorry...

    Character Limit is available now!

Good news! Character Limit has been released! After about a year of development chiefly by one person in his spare time, with some assistance from elsewhere, the game is finally out and available to purchase! (Not to make it too much of a hard sell or anything, but the game is available at a 20% launch discount, so.... yeah....)We are pretty proud of this, as it's our first release. It took a week of crunch on Malcolm's side to get it over the line, but it's there. In the coming weeks, we will continue to discuss the game and its features here, as well as any changes that we add to the game. We hope you enjoy it! There's more updates planned for the future, so stick around and maybe you'll find a new mode to hammer the keys on. Teething IssuesApologies in advance for any jankiness or bugs that appear at first. We will do our best to fix any major ones that appear in the coming weeks. If you do find any, please tell us about them! You can use the Community section of Steam, or visit our Discord if you're into that sort of thing...ScoreboardsBelieve it or not, we do have scoreboards and achievements in Character Limit. Due to the number of challenge modes available, you're only going to see them for the main two modes (Normal Endless and Empty the Bag), and once per language. They are currently available under the Community for the game in the Steam client, if you look under Stats. Alternately, you can also see them if you're checking out your achievements and click Leaderboards. We do plan to make this a bit easier to see and use in the game itself in the future. Also, since Malcolm has played this too much in development, he is avoiding leaving a score on the boards for the moment. He's giving you all a chance before he starts to take on the board. As for how high we're talking, let's just say it's a six-figure feat...That's probably all we need to mention here for launch. Once again, thank you for buying and playing our new mess of code and UI elements. Now, go mak...
