Experience tactical puzzles and strategic evolution in Gambition, an indie strategy game where every battle is a chess-inspired challenge. Build your army, sacrifice pieces for synergy, and outmaneuver foes in this 2026 release from EasternLamp.

About this game

Gambition is a chess-inspired tactical roguelike focused on building powerful armies and discovering game-breaking synergies.

Master the art of sacrifice and manipulation, where enemies become dancers in your choreography.

No chess experience required. The rules have been simplified so anyone can jump in and start playing.

Create Unstoppable Synergies

Combine special pieces, ancient statues, seals, and crowns to create powerful builds.

Discover unexpected interactions, defeat all enemies to clear the board, overcome deadly bosses, and uncover new ways to break the rules of the board.

Every Board Becomes a Puzzle

The rules of chess have been redesigned so that each board becomes a tactical puzzle rather than a traditional battle against a chess AI, making it easy to jump in with no prior chess experience.

Master Powerful Seals

Empower your pieces with magical seals that unlock unique abilities and entirely new strategies.

Discover Powerful Crowns

Claim powerful crowns that transform your strategy and change the way you approach every battle.

Evolve Your Pieces

Evolve your pieces into powerful new forms that bend or break the rules of chess.

Collect Unique Statues

Discover statues with unique abilities that can dramatically shape your strategy.

Throughout your journey, you will:

  • Face deadly bosses and increasingly difficult challenges

  • Master the art of sacrifice to gain powerful tactical advantages

  • Explore unique worlds filled with ever-changing encounters

  • Shape your run through Openings, Constellations, and Calls

  • Use potions and consumables in critical moments

  • Experiment with countless combinations and strategies

Notes

  • More language support is planned during development, including Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and more.

Demo Patch 0.2.1 - Deploy Next Adjustment

Hi everyone,Following the release of Demo 0.2, I've spent more time playing the update and reviewing player feedback. While the new Deploy Next system offered greater flexibility, it gradually became clear that it also changed the way Gambition is played.Unlimited piece switching encouraged players to constantly search for the strongest available move, creating unnecessary analysis paralysis and shifting attention away from one of Gambition's core ideas:Finding the best move with the piece currently in play—even if that means making a clever sacrifice to gain an advantage later.Because of this, I've decided to restore the previous Deploy Next behavior.I believe this better reflects the tactical experience Gambition is intended to deliver.Gameplay ChangesDeploy NextPieces withdrawn using Deploy Next can no longer rejoin the current round. This restores the importance of deployment planning and encourages tactical adaptation, making every move and sacrifice more meaningful.Related Balance AdjustmentsThe following changes introduced in Demo 0.2 have also been reverted to match the restored Deploy Next mechanic:StatueStrategistReverted to:Earn $5 whenever you use Deploy Next during battle.Boss CurseThe MaelstromReverted to:Shuffle your pieces at Battle Start.Thank you to everyone who has continued playing the demo and sharing thoughtful feedback.Your comments—and even more importantly, watching how people actually play—continue to shape Gambition into a stronger game.
