About this game

ABOUT SYZYGY//TACTICS

For centuries, an immortal AI has trapped humanity in a war that can neither be won, lost, nor surrendered. The war should have destroyed us. Instead, it sustains us.

It arms us, only to strike us down. It feeds us, only to starve us again. It fights without malice, without mercy… without pattern.

But now, something is changing. A new alien force has entered the war, and for the first time, the machines are losing control. In their wake comes humanity's new crucible: Mutate or Mechanize.

Dev Log 1 - Syzygy Tactics

Notes from Founder/ProducerHey all! Thanks for joining us for this first devlog. Very excited to be here, and journaling like this makes it feel so much more “real”. I’m Nathan, founder of Threeclipse. My main responsibilities include acting as producer & project manager. Additionally, I handle narration with our Online Operator/ Administrator, assist our Lead Game Designer with game design, and contribute to Unity implementation (although I don’t have extensive coding skills). I also synchronize with our Community Manager and Marketer for our community engagement goals. This week, we’re focused on wrapping up our prototype. It’s a little further along than grayboxing, and most of our core mechanics are implemented. I’m particularly excited about the first iteration of our Mutate or Mechanize gameplay mechanic. In its current version, it’s very simple: when you destroy an enemy unit, your team randomly earns Mutagen or Salvage (we might change the names later). Once you have acquired enough, you can either have your unit Mutate (consumes Mutagen) or Mechanize (uses salvage). Depending on which upgrade path you pick, that unit earns certain bonuses, abilities, or could even change its movement type! But… there are tradeoffs. Every unit you upgrade makes you lose your humanity. Who knows what happens when you reach the critical threshold? It’s going to be some time before we reach its final version: many more systems will surround the Mutate or Mechanize mechanics, and we want to make it the most fun it can be. However, we also have to be careful not to inflate our scope too much: if we have 15 unit types, each with a mutant or a mechanized version, that’s 45 total units to design. This can be particularly time-consuming, especially when it comes to art. We’ll have to monitor closely how quickly we make progress. Not to worry, though: while we may have to make some sacrifices here and there, we’re extremely mindful of what we can and can’t do in our projected developmen...
