Explore and manage your own reality as the Creator in Sunderborn, an indie strategy game where you compete against other Gods by shaping chaotic worlds.

About this game

You are the Creator!

You are the Creator — a Demiurge capable of creating worlds. Your task is to gather the necessary resources, transform them into building materials, and shape your own unique reality. Drawing upon the power of the World under your control, you will be able to challenge other Creators. However, before that, you must complete several intermediate steps:

• Transform the surrounding Chaos into Primordial Elements

• Summon Lesser Gods to aid you

• Forge alliances with friendly Creators

Resources

Resource gathering, also known as “Chaos Transformation,” is a logic-based puzzle. The player is faced with a vast Chaos Field, which contains hidden Primordial Elements grouped into sets of seven — called Seeds. There are six elements, divided into three pairs of antagonists:  Fire ↔ Water , Life ↔ Death and Astral ↔ Mind. Antagonistic elements can never be placed next to each other.

This rule is the core clue for solving the puzzle. The player must determine which Primordial Element is located in each position. The more accurate the player’s guesses are, the greater the reward. In addition to Primordial Elements, the player also receives Energy and various Artifacts — all of which serve as the fundamental building materials of the future World.

The Chaos Field itself changes over time. Depending on the player’s actions, these changes may either help or hinder progress. Within the field, the player may encounter Guardians, which block nearby Seeds. They must be dealt with in order to continue transforming Chaos.

Pantheon

You can summon assistants to serve you — Lesser Gods. Each of them grants the Creator a unique ability, and together they form your personal Pantheon. Lesser Gods differ in their elements, power, and relationships with one another.

Gods can create synergies with both positive and negative effects. These synergies are triggered by summoning gods from different groups at the same time — and even by their relative positions within the Pantheon. By summoning some gods, dismissing others, and rearranging their positions within the Pantheon, you customize your abilities to match your playstyle and optimize their overall impact.

Other Creators

You are not alone. Many other Creators exist alongside you, and interaction with them is a core part of the experience. These interactions are built around two main principles: free trade and exchange of any in-game items, and elemental specialization of Creators.

Trade allows players to exchange what they have in abundance for what they lack. Elemental specialization works in a similar way — if you don’t have access to something, you seek out a Creator who does. Creators aligned with certain elements are locked out of parts of the content tied to opposing elements, and gaining access to it requires cooperation with Creators of other elements.

In addition, Creators compete with one another in the Games of the Gods. These contests are not fought by the Creators themselves, but by the heroes and demigods they summon. The strength of a champion entered by a Creator depends directly on the power and balance of the World they have created.

What Comes Next?

Everything listed above is only the beginning. We plan to continue expanding the project long after launch, no matter what that launch may look like. Our future plans include:

  • A system for transforming Primordial Elements into Matter, which Creators will later use to forge their own Worlds

  • Development and management of Created Worlds through Divine Intervention and the Creators’ Avatars

  • Battles between Creators through summoned demigods and heroes

And much, much more. Most importantly — you can influence how the game evolves in the future. We are always open to interesting ideas and meaningful discussions.

    Paincraft #3 — 14th of April 2026

Hello, Creators! In our previous entry, we explored the unbreakable laws governing elemental logic. But world creation is not just cold calculation - it is also about confrontation. Today, we’ll talk about what makes the process of Chaos Transformation dynamic: the entities that guard the void, and time that slips through your fingers.🛡️ Guardians: The Divine LockThe Chaos Field is not always ready to reveal itself at once. On some Seeds, instead of familiar Anchors, you will encounter Guardians - reincarnations of the Lesser Gods (we’ll talk about them later). These entities block not only their own Seed but also neighboring ones, effectively locking down a section of the field from decryption. You have three ways to deal with them:Test Your Luck Challenge fate in a coin-flip mini-game with controlled randomness. Your chance of success depends on your element and blessings from other Gods.Dissolution A direct use of your divine power. You can essentially buy out the Guardian’s disappearance using Primordial Elements, Energy, and Artifacts.Accept the Challenge The hardest path. You must decrypt the Guardian’s Seed flawlessly. Reward: A valuable prize. Failure Cost: A negative effect that may restore Chaos or remove available Seeds.⏳ Time Pressure: The Rhythm of CreationTime in Sunderborn is a tool of tension - designed to keep you engaged. We use a system of multiple timers:Chaos Field Timer Every few hours, the world is completely reborn. If you fail to decrypt Seeds in time, they disappear along with the Field.Transformation Timer The moment you touch the first hex of a Seed, a 5-minute countdown begins. If time runs out, the Seed turns into Void, and your resources are lost.💡 Hints: Tools of the DemiurgeTo keep you from wandering in the dark, you are given abilities to manipulate space and time:Echo of Order Pre-revealed hexes along the field’s perimeter, giving you an initial foothold.Glimpse of the Future An ability that instantly and correctly decrypts a selected ...

    Paincraft #2 - 25th of March 2026

Greetings, Creators! At the heart of Sunderborn lies a single question: Can you understand what cannot be seen?In our last post, we introduced the team. Today, we dive deep into the very "heart" of the game - the puzzle that transforms void into matter.🔍 The Structure of the UnknownThe world begins with the Field of Chaos - a space filled with hidden hexagonal cells called hexes. These are not scattered randomly. Hexes are organized into groups of seven, which we call Seeds. At the center of each Seed lies its Anchor - the sole point of stability that determines the element of the entire group. Everything surrounding the Anchor is shrouded in Chaos. Your task is not just to open cells, but to decode them, restoring their true form.⚖️ Divine LogicSunderborn is inspired by classics like "Minesweeper," but here, progress is driven by understanding fundamental natural laws rather than luck.In our world, there are 6 elements forming three unbreakable pairs of antagonists:* Fire - Water* Life - Death* Astral - MindThe Golden Rule of Creation: Antagonistic elements can never be placed in adjacent hexes - neither within a single Seed nor at the borders of neighboring ones. This restriction is your primary tool. By observing a Seed's visible Anchor and knowing the composition of another, you construct a chain of logical deductions.✨ From Knowledge to MatterWhen Chaos retreats before your logic, magic happens. Correctly decoded hexes "ascend," transforming into Prime Elements and pure Energy. But remember: Chaos is treacherous. The price of an error is not an instant explosion, but a loss of efficiency. The fewer mistakes you make while assembling a Seed, the more precious resources and rare Artifacts you will receive for further creation.🌌 What’s Next? That moment when scattered hexes suddenly form a clear picture is the true birth of a Creator. It’s the moment you stop guessing and start seeing the rules by which this world breathes. In the next update, we'll tell you what you'l...

    Paincraft #1 - 9th of March 2026

Greetings! We’re thrilled to launch our development blog dedicated to Sunderborn — a puzzle game in the style of Minesweeper and Sudoku, where the player is the Creator where you step into the role of a divine architect, molding entire universes from raw cosmic energy. Before diving into the game’s mechanics, let us introduce ourselves — Painless Games, a passionate indie collective with big ambitions. 📜 Our Story Over a decade ago, a simple curiosity about game development sparked an idea that has since grown into a full-fledged studio. What began as late-night prototyping sessions and experimental mechanics evolved into Painless Games in 2025. Today, we’re a core team of four developers, supported by enthusiastic contributors who bring fresh perspectives to the table. 😎 The Name Behind the Brand The name Painless reflects our philosophy: we strive to create games that challenge without overwhelming, offering depth and enjoyment in equal measure. While we operate remotely, lacking traditional office spaces, our virtual workspace is fuelled by endless cups of coffee and innovative ideas. 👥 Our Team In our close-knit studio, hierarchy takes a back seat to collaboration. Every team member from Unreal Engine programmers to mobile specialists, game designers to balance experts contributes equally to decision-making. This flat structure fosters creativity and ensures every idea is thoroughly discussed and refined. 👷🏻‍♂️ How Sunderborn Was Born A Long-Long-Long Idea Comes to Life The vision for Sunderborn (initially conceived under a different title) has been maturing for over fifteen years. Ultimately, we came up with a puzzle mechanic where every action impacts the system, and progress depends not on levels, but on understanding. We believe this will be a breakthrough—a game where everyone feels like a true master and strategist, but without unnecessary complexity. 👨‍💻 In our the next update, we'll explore our mechanics in more detail. We’d love to hear your thoughts on...
